greeme - New Jersey Nets
Greeme and I have a genuine disgust for each other but at the end of the day he is one of the better GM's here. Some of that may be due to the weak GM pool but have to give him his props I guess since he's had one of the best teams if not the best over the first two seasons. He drafted well in the creation draft and had a plan unlike most people going in to it so that helped. But Nets really need to win the title this year or the next with MJ being 38 and Deke being 35 their window isn't gonna be open for much longer. Nets should still be fine even after MJ and Deke are gone but I'm betting greeme is going to be trying his hardest to trade MJ at the deadline next season. That is if he doesn't retire at the end of this season of course.
Skillz - New York Knicks
This GM and I have had our differences as well but we are similar in a lot of ways too unlike greeme and I because we both love trading a ton and hyping up all of our players to the dismay of the league. He's done a really good job since losing the very first trade of BBS2020(which also similar to me since I lost a pre-creation draft trade as well) and could've had another chance to win it all this season if he had just kept MJ and Mash and added a big man or two. But as we have seen this season skillz doesn't need much more than Jamal Crawford to win so the Knicks should be good for a long time especially since it doesn't seem like he will have a ton of competition from these Eastern Conference GM from the looks of it early on.
2 years left - Cleveland Cavaliers
Cavaliers have also had a ton of early success in the first two seasons with one of the best trio's in the league KG, KVH and Grant Hill. Cavaliers landed the #3 pick in creation draft and drafted Shaq then traded him for Garnett and Chris Webber(later traded for Grant Hill) which is looking like an amazing deal for the Cavaliers with how good Garnett is turning out to be and they also got Webber which turned in to Grant Hill who is one of the best wing players in the league. Cavaliers are pretty shaky after those their top 3 guys though as Gary Payton is really nice but about to be 34 years old and expiring next season so we'll see how Cavaliers handle that situation going forward as they will need to make a big move or two for sure next season.
Play /insane - Chicago Bulls
Tough to really judge this duo and team as they had a great first season then turned around and had a mediocre second season with the same exact team. The Bulls drafted really well and we are starting to see that now with Moiso and Courtney Alexander looking like future studs. Eisley is really mediocre at PG and they don't have a ton of depth so that cost them early on in the season and putting Alexander in to the lineup and phasing out Juwan Howard was an adjustment period as well. Once they did that and added another good big man next to Camby and Moiso, their season started to take off and they will most likely make the 2nd round and then will face the Nets where hopefully play/insane have something special cooked up for greeme!
the original michael - Indiana Pacers
Sargo did a really good job early on being able to acquire two top 10 creation picks and really nailed one of them in Steve Nash but probably could have gone with Vince Carter or Dirk Nowitzki over Elton Brand with the 7th pick. But he was able to get a pretty decent haul for Brand with all of those Lakers picks. And besides that Nash trade he has done a really good job once he fully committed to tanking. But it looks like he is going to try and win again next season with Vince Carter and Rashard Lewis on the wing. He has a plethora of good picks and Maggette to trade for upgrades elsewhere so we'll see how Sargo constructs his team around Carter and Shard and if he'll have better luck at winning this time and not give up so fast!
jahallstar - Washington Wizards
I have been a critic of jah's activity and lack of trading at times but I think he's done a great job so far this version of BBS with activity and GMing. He had a pretty nice creation draft where he went all youth and outside shooting in Peja Stojakovic, Michael Redd and Jason Terry. It looks like all three of those picks are going to work out but I wasn't really a fan of the Stromile Swift and Brad Miller picks and they seem to both be busts. I guess Stromile was worth taking a chance on at least. Jah made a good trade bringing in Jason Williams for cheap but he's a FA now so we'll see if he can bring him back. I liked the Haywood and Collins picks in the 2001 draft but Richard Jefferson not so much. Overall pretty good job, TC's and a few more solid drafts+FAs will be the deciding factor for this team.
Lasagna and tears of failure - Boston Celtics
Looking back on the Celtics creation draft, brian did a good job with not only drafting Allen Iverson but the Mike Bibby and Joe Smith picks have turned up as well. The rest of his draft after that was pretty bad and caused some to believe he might be an early CY candidate but he was able to get pretty lucky in trading his own 2002 first round pick for the Hornets 2002 first rounder from the Nets. Hornets ended up being really bad and Celtics were able to get Rasheed Wallace for the pick and pairing him with AI, Bibby and Smith has made for a formidable foursome for sure. But unfortunately the Celtics don't have much else behind those guys so brian will have to address that going forward in FA and through trades so we'll see how he handles it.
Von - New Orleans Hornets
Pig scored big in the creation draft being able to draft Alonzo Mourning with the 21st pick and did a great job drafting a win now team with a 2-3ish year window but he had bad luck with Karl Malone retiring after the first season and that kind of doomed him. His team was bad to start the season and that prompted him to want to trade Mourning and try to get his pick back. He wasn't able to do the latter but was able to trade Zo for a ton of decent first round picks. Probably could have gotten more for Zo but he did a good job of getting two good picks out of Jerry Stackhouse and should be more than fine if he drafts well and signs a good free agents going forward. Really just had some back luck with Malone retiring or Hornets could've been really good again this season.
Galo - Detroit Pistons
I haven't always agreed with galo's trades but he has made the playoffs in the first 2 seasons and went deep in to the playoffs last season pushing the Nets to 7 games in the 2nd round. That alone is pretty impressive and a lot of that credit goes to Chris Webber who he received in a trade with the Cavaliers last season. Pistons had a solid creation draft and after a rough first season of trading I thought the pickups of Van Exel, Tim Thomas and McIlvaine late this season were really good moves and could help them make another playoff run this season if Webber turns in to playoff Webber again. Don't love their wing situation and the team isn't in the best situation going forward but if they get a nice return in trading Webber they should have a good rebuild.
GAME - Toronto Raptors
Didn't agree with game trying to win early in the season and glad he finally saw the light and made his pick as good as possible. Still should have just tanked from the beginning but ended up with a future superstar PG in Tony Parker and still a top 10ish pick so not too bad since this season was his first of his CY anyway. Nothing at all on the team besides Parker though so game will have to draft really well and score some good timely FA signings over the next few seasons if he wants to build a true contender. He just needs to fully commit to tanking next year for 2003 which might actually be kind of hard with Parker so we'll see how much game wants to go after Lebron and co because not sure if he'll be bad enough if he keeps Parker on his team.
Losanglife - Atlanta Hawks
Styro hasn't really done a ton of trading or much else since drafting all youth for the creation draft and committing hard to the tank so hard to really judge him at this point. Unfortunately as bad as his team has been he might not end up with much out of his first two tank jobs as he has been out done by better tank commanders so far. Steve Francis has been too good for the Hawks to lose but still not sure if Francis is going to be that great long term with his turnovers. Styro still has the 2003 draft and free agency where it is looking like he will really need to score big in both or he could be in a little CY trouble. Dalembert he really needs to camp and turn in to a good big man. Stephen Jackson and Dermarr Johnson are decent but they both need good TC's so we'll see.
Stevie B - Philadelphia 76ers
The first season was a real struggle for Steve and the 76ers as they got off to a bit of a rough start and then traded their first round pick in a deal for Jason Kidd who then proceeded to get injured for the rest of the season. But they did reset their CY and picked up Stephon Marbury for Kidd and have smartly been tanking since. 2nd projected pick in the upcoming draft and also still has Antawn Jamison and cap space for the next few off-seasons so 76ers will be back if Steve remains patient and has a smart 2-3 year rebuild. I would have probably traded Marbury and Jamison but at this point if he wasn't getting many good offers it's best to just keep them for another TC to see if they blow up. And they were able to lose with them anyway so why not keep them.
breakthewalls - Orlando Magic
Break is a first time GM to FBB and it has certainly showed as his first two seasons have had their ups and downs but I think overall he has done an alright job for a first timer. They drafted Antoine Walker in the creation draft then traded all of their other picks for future first round picks. Walker turned in to a stud and they were able to tank effectively so that part worked but I don't think any of the futures they got are looking like much of anything so they would have probably been better off just drafting. Loved the JJ and Eddie Griffin picks. I think the Kobe trade was good value for the Magic but it just leaves their cupboard really bare. They will need to sign some good FA's over the next two off-seasons and have some good TC's but they have one of the best players in Kobe so they should be alright.
chipper - Milwaukee Bucks
It has been a bit of a rough start for chipper and he probably should have been a bit more patient but I don't blame the guy at all for wanting to make the team his own and he needed to fully commit to tanking anyway and he couldn't do that with the talent that was on the team. He might've could've got more value in some of his trades but he has two lottos in this draft and he still has 2 more years to tank and get top 5 picks and sign good FA's. So chipper is still in good shape he just needs to be smart from here on out with his draft picks. Bucks have 4th projected so he has a good chance to jump and even if he doesn't I think they could pick up that big time scoring Euro SG or Carlos Boozer so those would be wins for him if he can get either of those guys.
