BBS Playoff Series Breakdown
BBS Playoff Series Breakdown
2nd Round Edition
Clips (1) vs. Jazz (5)
PG: D Jones vs. B Jax
Advantage: Jazz
Why: Bobby Jackson is a very good player and Damon Jones simply isn’t all that great. He is asked to not screw up and get the ball to Tim Duncan in the post. This should be a matchup of concern for Darell, Frongi, and company.
SG: Houston vs. Eddie Jones
Advantage: Jazz
Why: Another substantial edge for the Jazz here. I mean, Allan Houston is probably the best 2 guard in the dang league. He is a serious problem and did his thing in round 1. Eddie Jones is a nice player, but he is going to have to player a bigger role in this series for the Clips to come out on top.
SF: LJ vs. G-Rob
Advantage: Even
Why: I’ll tell you what, man is this a great matchup and arguably could determine the series. G-Rob is as efficient as they come, and LJ is a matchup nightmare for most SFs. I’m super intrigued! If you put a gun to my head, I feel like G-Rob may get the better of this enticing matchup.
PF: Duncan vs. Pollard
Advantage: Clips
Why: No need to waste anybody’s time here…now the thing that could get interesting is if the Jazz can match D-Rob on him which is the ultimate goal obviously. That could be the difference in the series if Jr. can pull that off.
C: White vs. D-Rob
Advantage: Jazz
Why: D-Rob isn’t a young buck anymore, but he clearly gives Jr. the big edge in this matchup (if it stayed this way).
Bench: Najera/Corliss vs. Lynch/Anderson
Advantage: Clips
Why: Ehhhhhhh both benches aren’t really special. I do think I’d prefer the Clips side, though.
GM: Darell/Frongi vs. Jr.
Advantage: Jazz
Why: 2 is better than 1, right? Not the case here. Jr. has won a chip and has shown his ability to navigate a championship with this core…he will try to do it once more.
Series Prediction: Jazz in 5…I just think if they can contain Duncan, it's all she wrote.
***Thinking Habes will roll Kidd at PG for this series…but who knows!***
Kings (3) vs. Mavs (7)
PG: Nash vs. Kidd
Advantage: Kings
Why: Gotta roll Nash, but Kidd will be able to slow Nash down I believe. I think the key is if Kidd can get his offensive game rolling. If he can, then Kidd could get the better of the two here. I still think Nash will have a couple of those games where he will erupt.
SG: JJ vs. Allen
Advantage: Mavs
Why: I do like Joe, but Ray Allen is all world. His efficiency is off the charts, and he will undoubtedly destroy Joe Johnson in this series.
SF: Rice vs. Bodiroga
Advantage: Mavs
Why: I’d give the slight edge to Boriroga here. Both have similar skill sets where they can score a bucket when asked upon, but also aren’t the best defenders. Veryyyyyyyyy interesting matchup here.
PF: Walker vs. JO
Advantage: Kings
Why: BUT I love JO and I think he could give Walker some problems here. Walker is more of a SF, but it seems like Ashes is rolling with him at the 4 in the playoffs. I’m super intrigued to see how this matchup plays out but keep an eye out on my boy JO!
C: Battie vs. Bradley
Advantage: Mavs
Why: Bradley is the better defender as both guys are clear role players.
Bench: Okur/Collier/R Brown vs. Davis/House
Advantage: Mavs
Why: Don’t mind either reserve groupings here, but I do think I’d prefer the Davis/House combo or whatever Habes has up his sleeves here.
GM: Ashes vs. Habes
Advantage: Even
Why: Know both of these lads from BBSBL3 and both were fine gentlemen. As I’ve gotten to see both GMs in action, I really think both are very astute and know what they are doing. This will be an interesting matchup to see how both navigate through this series.
Series Prediction: Kings in 7…I think we are in for a heck of a series.
Nets (1) vs. Knicks (4)
PG: Ward vs. Crawford
Advantage: Knicks
Why: Well, this will be a big advantage and one that Skillz needs Crawford to take full advantage of. If Crawford doesn’t dominate like anticipated, then Skillz will be even more fucked.
SG: MJ vs. Smith
Advantage: Nets
Why: Love Steve Smith. Love him. And I will continue to love him after the beatdown that will take place in this series…as MJ is leading the playoffs in scoring at the ripe age of 38.
SF: Miller vs. Posey
Advantage: Knicks
Why: Posey delivered an incredible game 7 performance to help Skillz move on against the Bulls! Now, he will matchup against Mike Miller who I think he could take full advantage of.
PF: Wallace vs. Massenburg
Advantage: Nets
Why: Pretty straightforward here. Wallace will eat up Massenburg and all of his offensive efficiency that Skillz speaks of.
C: Mutumbo vs. Mihm
Advantage: Nets
Why: Damn. This is what separates the Nets. That frontcourt is bonkers, and Mutumbo will have his way with young Mihm. I wish him the best!
Bench: Christie/Johnson/George vs. Jackson/K-Mart/Horry/Kittles/Delk
Advantage: Knicks
Why: Massive advantage. Spoke to this in my previous article, but the Nets bench leaves a lot to be desired. The Knicks have some really good players coming off their bench. They’ll need to be difference makers to overcome that Nets frontcourt.
GM: Greeme vs. Skillz
Advantage: Knicks
Why: I will give Skillz the edge here. He is creative and knows how to work a DC to cater any style of play. Greeme doesn’t have as many options since his bench is weak. Skillz could capitalize on those weaknesses.
Series Prediction: Nets in 6…Crawford will get his, but Greeme’s front court plus MJ will dominate (yet again).
Cavs (2) vs. Heat (3)
PG: Payton vs. Atkins
Advantage: Even
Why: Payton is a phenomenal defender, can rebound well, but is a turnover whore. If he corralled those turnovers, this would be an easy call. Atkins is efficient, does a lot of things well, and can defend as well. I think this will be a dog fight.
SG: KVH vs. Mashburn
Advantage: Cavs
Why: Love both of these players, but KVH is just a matchup nightmare, and I don’t necessarily think Mashburn will be able to contain him on the defensive end. This will be a fun matchup to track in this series, and very well could decide the series.
SF: Hill vs. Laettner
Advantage: Cavs
Why: I wonder if Kobe is going to adjust this and put Mashburn here and Ricky at the 2…or he will keep his lineup as is. If he sticks with his latest DC, this will be a nice advantage for Svedda as Hill should get the better of Laettner.
PF: Cato vs. PJ Brown
Advantage: Heat
Why: Give me PJ Brown who does nearly everything better than Cato at this stage of the game.
C: KG vs. Zo
Advantage: Heat
Why: Svedda will need KG to step up from his inconsistent play because he is arguably facing the best big man in BBS. Zo has been absolutely superb these playoffs, and most likely will continue that trend.
Bench: Harrington/Skinner/Armstrong vs. Bo/Thomas/Ricky
Advantage: Heat
Why: This very well might decide the series, and the Heat have a gigantic edge here. Like it is not even close. Ricky Davis is an absolute weapon and will destroy the Cavs off the bench.
GM: Svedda vs. Kobe
Advantage: Heat
Why: Kobe has arguably the best team in BBS and it’s due to shrewd decision making. Svedda never really addressed the bench, and this is a series where it could hurt him. Svedda has a strong team, no doubts about that, but I think he might be at a disadvantage here going against Kobe.
Series Prediction: Heat in 7…this is a matchup loaded with talent, and I see it going 7.
