Name: Barack Hussein Obama
Position: SG
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 180
Age: 22
College: Columbia
Projected Ratings: B- B C- D+ C+ A
Bio: The 44th President of the United States and one of the most iconic global personalities of the 21st century, Barack Obama is known as the biggest basketball fan to ever occupy the oval office. But more than that, this is a man of profound ability on AND off the court. A man whose combined African and Hawaiian heritage give him the physical gifts that SURELY could translate to BBS.
While development/potential entails some combination of the BBS Draft Gods and the chaotic, stormy waters of FBB, Barry O has shown that he will break through walls to break down barriers--he was moving into the White House 4 years removed from being an Illinois State Senator, and 20 years removed from enrolling at Harvard Law School.
A widely-beloved and celebrated figure, Obama brings the chance for a superstar impact on whatever market lucky enough to land him.
Strengths:
- Very high shooting volume
Barry O is the man everyone else wants to pass to. He calls the shots and he takes the shots. He is the one who knocks. His confidence is unbounded. Teammates know they are on a Barry O rocket ship, and that their years with Obama will generate future lucrative contracts and success for years to come. His last wingman, a total glue guy who took nearly zero shots during all his seasons as Obama's #2 option, was just elected the 46th president of the united states for god's sakes. Who wouldn't want to play with this guy and let him take all the shots??
- Very thoughtful with the ball
Obama is extremely methodical and strategic with his approach to ball-handling and passing. This is a deeply calculating man who takes time to consider downsides before he acts, some may even argue he is strategic to a fault.
- The ultimate bounce-back, resilient rebounder, especially on the defensive side of the ball
As optimistic as he is an astute politician, Obama is excellent at recognizing opportunities for bounce-backs and trying to predict where things are going rather than reacting to what is currently happening. Much like Dennis Rodman in The Last Dance, this innate prowess to being able to bounce right back from seemingly devastating scandals (*cough* benghazi *cough* *cough* fast and furious *cough* *cough*) cannot be taught, and Obama has it. Particularly on the defensive end because it helps compensate how weak he is on Defense while also enabling his team to go back on the (rhetorical) offensive!
- Silky smooth 3pt shot
we've all seen the videos. obama is talking to some troops or kids and standing on a basketball court, dribbling a ball as he speaks. he turns around, he strokes a sweet trey ball. bang. this man is lethal from downtown and he knows it. Even if a shot is out of his typical range, he'll come in hot with a predator drone strike from anywhere on the globe pinpointed to a few inches. Obama is lethal from long range, make no mistake about it.
-Solid steals
One of the modern era's great 'bark worse than his bite' defenders, Barack knows he can cover up some major defensive flaws with some surface-level, eyewash 'victories' in places like the UN. 1 to 1.5 steals per game helps distract from what happens on every other possession in the game where he didn't steal the ball.
Also good at intercepting J's. Don't sleep on Barry O!
Weaknesses
- Very weak on Defense, a historically bad perimeter, post, and drive defender
Obama talks a huge game on Defense and will make aggressive moves to try to steal the ball nearly every posession. But the dirty, not-so-well-kept secret is that if actually challenged, Obama will fold like a cheap tent on the defensive front. Whether it is the Red Line in Syria, the Russian annexation of Crimea, or the creation of the vacuum in Iraq that helped to cultivate ISIS, Obama has shown that he is a door that swings open with the slightest push
- Struggles to get to the bucket
Years of pickup with people too afraid to make any contact with him has made Barry O struggle to lower the shoulder and get to the hoop for tough buckets. Can't bring the secret service with you on the court in BBS!
- Almost never passes
As a corollary to his extreme shooting volume, Obama rarely, if ever, passes. He would be doing himself, his teammates, and his country a disservice by counting on anyone other than Barry O.
-Meh Jump shot
Why do you think it is that Obama always takes those PR video-taped shots from behind the 3-point line? This man is no fool. He is low key a little bit trash once you get him inside 23 feet. Good thing he can stroke it from downtown!
Stipulation:
Ever the American patriot, Obama loses 15 potential if he ever goes north of the border and plays for the Raptors. However, there is a "studying abroad" bonus contingency to the stipulation where after spending at least one full season (i.e. 120 season days) in Toronto, he GAINS 30 potential (net +15 potential) upon being traded back to any American team.
