I think a lot of teams have invested in financial counseling for these guys once they get into the league. I also read that most of these guys ignore it. Too many risky investments, giving too much money to the "crew", lavish unnecessary expenses, etc. The sad part of all of this is you can do ALL OF THIS STILL and put a chunk away and not worry about expenses after you retire. but this happens in every sport, of people of every color... it happens so much in football(soccer leagues). Lots of these guys never seen money in their life and dont know what to do with it. Yeah I am not really saying this is exclusive to the United States, a certain race or basketball. |

LeBron and Shaq will never have to worry about money for the rest of their lives based off of their marketability, royalties, etc. Those aren't great examples. Gronk isn't the most unmarkable guy as well but he came into a league with pretty career direction in that aspect. Andre Iguodala. |
