10 things I like, don't like about 2033 Opening Night
Trying my best Zach Lowe impression here:
LIKE
1- Early MVP candidate Bob Cousy
37.2 PPG, 7.7 RPG, 10.3 APG, 1.8 SPG
Cousy has already risen up the ranks as only a super sophomore currently leading the league in scoring at just over 37 points in the opening sim. The former Holy Cross standout led the Nuggets to an 8-1 start and to the top of the West. Is it sustainable though? With elite ratings in tow already and a strong supporting cast of Sean Ellison and Cam Thomas, the Nuggets seemed prime to have their best campaign under CC’s leadership and should make Cous a frontrunner for the 33’ MVP award.

2- Grizz slow start
2-5 current record
After making a blockbuster trade sending Carl Braun and Amos Ashford Fleet to Phoenix in exchange for stud wing Eli Fisher, Memphis had an underwhelming 2-5 start to the season. While the boards didn’t seem to be an issue, the Grizz lead the league in turnovers a game by a wide margin. The touted Cade/Dayo backcourt averaged 6.5 of those turnovers alone. Maybe it’s a combination of unfruitful DC, underperforming and some tough matchups (DEN, DAL). But, it’s very early and Rex should be able to right the ship.

3- J.W. Fullerton lighting up his LA debut
28.6 PPG, 6.9 RPG, 7.3 APG, 1.8 SPG
The 2030 second round pick out of Arkansas St. had a stellar start to the season for the Lakers after getting the starting nod. Originally the top selection in the 2nd round for the Utah Jazz, Fullerton bounced to the Knicks for 2 seasons before landing in LA on the mid level exception in free agency. Although his shooting splits leave a lot to be desired, Fullerton showed the volume and promise and still is completely uncamped. Not a bad debut and value for Nanz here in 2033.

4- Wiz disappointing opening
3-4 record
Washington was the sexy champs prediction for 2033 and it’s easy to see why. Jah has guided the Wiz to 2 straight Finals appearances but no ring yet after losses to the Mavs in 7 and in 6 to the Clips last year. Will this be the year? They are currently -8 on point differential and bottom 5 in shooting percentage in the league. Newcomer Kostas Antetekounmpo, who signed with Washington in the off-season after 11 seasons and two championships in Cleveland, has left some to be desired with his performance at SF in the opener. This writer still thinks they’ll get it together but the Atlantic will be tough every day this season.

5- George Mikan’s anticipated arrival
C 27 6-10 245 A- C C A- A- C
A generational talent. The big man that coined the term the, ‘Mikan Drill’ which millions of large youth/amateurs have been taught for years. Mr. Basketball himself is coming to BBS soon – as early as the All Star Break. Where will he land? It looks like he’ll be the first retro player to be an undrafted rookie free agent that will randomly be selected to a team. After the season, he’ll enter free agency for the open market to bid. Love this outside the box idea by Spencer especially for contenders to have a chance to land Mikan for their post-season runs versus him ending up in a rebuilding situation from the get go.

6- Steve’s dustup w/Spencer & Andrew
Stevie B
First off, Steve’s my guy – love this man. But’s he’s been out of pocket recently and a lot of guys have called him out on it. While I feel and share a lot of his frustrations, I don’t take it out on folks or Spence because he’s got a lot of personal stuff going on right now. Steve chewing out Andrew for not taking his deal rubbed people the wrong way but he’s contrite about it now. I’m glad he’s sticking around but check yourself like Play checks in his scooter when he gets to Urth Caffe.

7- Andy Phillip’s 16 pts in 4 min
bballsim2020.com/boxes/5-12.html
Phillip signed a low-level exception with the Clippers this season as the backup to incumbent Will Maxwell. However, he found himself in the lineup against the Sonics on Day 5 against the Pacers and absolutely torched them in only 4 minutes. Phillip went 6 of 8 from the field, 3/5 from 3PT, 1 free throw, 1 assist and 1 foul. Talk about efficiency – greeme might need to find some minutes for Phillip at some point.

8- The trade market for Terrell Thompson
32 PPG, 7.1 RPG, 3.0 APG, 2.8 SPG
TT has officially been on the block for over a week now and still no takers. I’m sure GM DBW has fielded tons of calls and messages on one of the league’s most coveted shooting guards but hasn’t found the package he’s looking for. Meanwhile, the rebuilding Hawks are winless in the opening sim through 8 games and Thompson is stuck in ATL looking like Will Smith in the last episode of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Someone trade for this man!

9- Clyde Lovelette in the 2034 draft
C 6'9'' 234 23 B C D+ B B A
In a draft that’s already being perceived as one of the worst in history, enter Kansas big man Lovelette into the picture. The 6’9 center already has super solid ratings and only 23 years old. He has to be in the running for the top selection in the draft unless he has some significant flaws that will be indicated by scouts. One team should be very happy to land Clyde around lotto time.

10- Recent Marty drama

I think we all know marty’s shtick is all an act. His trolling probably goes too far at times and guys are probably over it. It was the draft pick snafu which cost Seattle an MLE/LLE this season while being in CY nonetheless. Then came the homo comment, his apology attempt but still he’s being pushed out of the Sonics job after almost 20 seasons. Would I like him to stick around? Kind of. But is everyone tired of his shit? Also, yes. It’s unfortunate if he can’t see his current CY through but we’ll see if Spence names a new Seattle GM soon.
