2003 Pre-Notes Mock Draft
Round 1:
#1) - LeBron James SF 6'9'' 230 19 B+ C+ C+ C+ C+ A
Analysis: A fairly self-explanatory pick, no reasoning needed. Pig will take LeBron with a massive smile on his face and build the Hornets franchise around him.
#2) - Dwyane Wade SG 6'4'' 210 21 B C+ C+ C+ C AAnalysis: A fairly self-explanatory pick, no reasoning needed. Pig will take LeBron with a massive smile on his face and build the Hornets franchise around him.
Analysis: Feel like this pick is also obvious. There's no doubt that Carmelo and Bosh will be stars but Wade is a proven winner. As a prospect, there are no clear holes in his game given that the A potential is likely true. I'd take him, camp the offense prior to training camp and watch it explode. C rebounding also very nice at the SG spot.
#3) - Carmelo Anthony SF 6'8'' 235 19 B B C D+ C A
Analysis: That D+ defense just looks so ugly but the rest of his game looks amazing. Feel like the letter grade rating on his defense may limit his minutes as the simulation coaches may bench him due to an inability to get in front of his man. Also would not want defense that poor in my frontcourt which is why I feel like he is likely suited to play SG long-term in this league. The rest of his game looks terrific for an SG, plus he is only 19 years of age with A potential that is probably true.
#4) - Chris Bosh C 6'11'' 235 19 B C C- C+ C+ A
Analysis: I almost put Bosh third overall due Carmelo's defensive letter grade but Carmelo's scoring ability just looks too great to pass up. Bosh on the other hand has the skills you look for in a traditional big plus an outside shot with a bit of range. He'll easily develop into a 20/10 guy, might even get a couple of blocks. Long-term, looks like a stud and after this pick, is where the draft sees a massive dropoff.
#5) - David West PF 6'9'' 250 23 B- C C B- B- B
Analysis: A bit on the older side, West is a true PF who can maybe play some SF in this league depending on the system the team he lands on runs. There are a variety of guys who cold have gone ahead of West but the name value probably lands West at this spot. After Pick # 4 in this particular draft, you end up in what seems like no man's land. Everybody has major flaws, you just have to hope that the guy you get works out well for you.
#6) - Josh Howard SF 6'7'' 210 23 B- B- C- B C C
Analysis: Who doesn't like a wing with B defense and C rebounding? Already having B- B- offense as a rookie is cool too. Draft him, camp his offense and hope for the best. Should be a very interesting wing in this league for many years to come.
#7) - Mo Williams PG 6'1'' 198 21 C B C+ C+ C B
Analysis: There are a lot of point guards in this draft and notes will affect where they get taken as letter grades are unable to gauge the all-important handling ability. Based on pure ratings alone however, I expect Mo to be the first one taken. C rebounding will be elite at the PG spot, B outside is terrific for a rookie and I expect him to have decent scoring volume. Could even argue him going higher than this spot if the handling grade is strong. Note will dictate where he goes.
#8) - Boris Diaw PF 6'8'' 250 21 C+ C B+ C C+ B
Analysis: His weird ratings will get some GM to bite the bullet and draft this kid from France high. I, personally, am not sold on him at all. His only real strength is passing. The C+ inside grade looks closer to a C (though that is difficult to gauge as Fat Boris isn't much of a leaper). He might be good, I'm not sure. Regardless, he seems interesting and should get drafted high. Sometimes, you just gotta gamble and hope for the best.
#9) - Kirk Hinrich PG 6'4'' 190 22 C B C+ B- D+ B
Analysis: Could easily see Kirk going higher than this spot if his notes bless the handles rating. B outside and B- defense is nice for a rookie PG with B potential. Feel like his floor is high and that he should end up being a solid starting PG.
#10) (from ) - Leandro Barbosa PG 6'3'' 194 21 C B+ C C D+ B
Analysis: The B+ outside as a rookie seems too good to pass up. I'm sure he has solid volume, it's the handles and defense which are in question. Either way, should go in the lottery as some team hopes that he is their PG of the future.
#11) - Chris Kaman C 7'0'' 265 21 B- C- D+ C B- B
Analysis: Looks like a potential double-double machine. Would have had him going higher than this slot but the lack of defense is something which you do not want to see from a big. Obviously, he is a rookie with potential but the lack of defense makes him a risky pick in the lottery.
#12) - Darko Milicic C 7'0'' 250 18 C+ C- C- C+ C+ A
Analysis: Speaking of risky picks in the lottery, who is riskier than this European 18-year old? Raw as hell but young and likely has upside. Not sure if he will be the next great big or another Kwame Brown. Should be fun to find out!
#13) - Kendrick Perkins C 6'10'' 270 19 C+ D+ D B- C+ B
Analysis: This pick is kept by the Bulls due to a lottery protection (if it falls outside of the lottery, it goes to Minnesota). Kendirck is a massive 19-year old kid already showing flashes defensively. That puts him in the lottery conversation. Seems like a very friendly guy who really gets along with stars, could go on to become very well connected and have a terrific career in media after he retires.
#14) (from ) - Mickael Pietrus SG 6'6'' 215 21 C B- D+ B C B
Analysis: The B defense and C rebounding looks cool. Shows some shooting ability as well. Could even see him ending up in the lottery but have him falling just outside. Feel like if you draft him, you should camp his offense right before his first training camp and hope/pray for the best.
#15) - Nick Collison C 6'10'' 255 23 C+ C D+ C+ B B
Analysis: A bruiser on the boards puts him in the top half of the first round in my book. Could be a solid rotational big. Worth taking a flier on at the very least.
#16) (from ) - Jose Calderon PG 6'3'' 200 22 C B B- C D+ B
Analysis: The fourth PG off my board is Calderon from Spain. Could go higher than this slot as he can shoot, likely has some upside. It's just some questions about his scoring volume dropping him.
#17) - T.J. Ford PG 6'0'' 165 20 C C+ B C D+ B
Analysis: As far as name recognition goes, he would go lotto. But honestly, his ratings just don't look great. C+ outside is ok for a rookie with B potential. Right now however, his only real strength is passing which I personally do not care for at all. He will go round one, just not sure where in round one.
#18) (from ) - James Jones SF 6'8'' 218 23 C A- C- B- D+ C
Analysis: Pretty ratings could even have him going higher than this slot. But questions about his scoring volume and being a weak rebounder at the SF spot drops him down a bit though he could have a future in this league at SG. Just really need to camp his inside and hope that he is able to put some points on the board. The A- outside and B- defense as a rookie look cool.
#19) (from ) - Zaza Pachulia C 6'11'' 270 19 C+ C- D+ B- B- B
Analysis: Young big from Georgia (country, not state) showing some flashes as a rebounder/defender. Questions concerning his character drop him as he is known to be a very dirty player. Also his shotblocking ability and scoring ability are likely question marks. But his rebounding/upside are nice for a 19-year old rookie making him worthy to go in round one.
#20) (from ) - Steve Blake PG 6'3'' 172 23 C B- B- C+ D+ B
Analysis: The sixth and final point guard I have going in the first round is Steve Blake (though could also Luke Ridnour or maybe even Reece Gains sneaking in a later pick). Blake has ratings similar to Calderon though I personally don't expect him to be as good.
#21) (from ) - Sofoklis Schortsanitis C 6'10'' 345 18 C F+ D C C+ A
Analysis: It's a crapshoot at this point if you couldn't tell already with the previous few picks. So why not gamble on the Greek Shaq? He is massive at age 18 weighing in at 345 lbs. Could be an an absolute bruiser in this league if that A potential is true. Could even see him going higher just because of the upside/intrigue but expect him to drop in the latter half of the round due to how raw he is. Interesting player however. I'm sure the Sonics may try to trade in to nab the Greek Shaq to join Shaq and Baby Shaq.
#22) - Kyle Korver SF 6'7'' 212 22 C A- C- C C C
Analysis: He can shoot lights out and C rebounding i nice for a wing. If he has some scoring volume, he could have value as a two-guard in this league.
#23) (from ) - Maciej Lampe C 6'11'' 275 18 C+ D+ D+ C C+ A
Analysis: This is an upside pick if you ever saw one. Age 18 and raw as hell. Similar to Darko but not as big a name which causes him to drop later in the first round.
#24) (from ) - Matt Bonner C 6'10'' 235 23 C+ B D C C C
Analysis: His future in this league will likely be as a wing. The C+ B offense along with C rebounding makes him an interesting wing. Not sure about his scoring volume which is what makes him drop near the back half of the first round (could possibly even drop into round two). But if his volume is solid, then he'd be a terrific wing in this league.
#25) (from ) - Quinton Ross SG 6'6'' 193 22 B- C C- B D+ C
Analysis: He likely doesn't have much upside but looks like he can be a solid player once you put +16 into this outside shooting. That alone makes him worth taking in the first round.
#26) (from ) - Travis Outlaw SF 6'9'' 210 19 C+ C+ C- C C A
Analysis: This is an upside play. C+ C+ offense and C rebounding is solid for a 19-year old rookie wing. The A scouted potential makes him look cool as a prospect. Whether or not he can develop into something, only time can tell.
#27) (from ) - Mike Sweetney C 6'8'' 275 21 B- C- D C C+ B
Analysis: He's a big dude who shows some flashes offensively and shows some upside. Not sure if he goes in round one but he will be in consideration near the end of this round without a doubt.
#28) (from ) - Ndudi Ebi SF 6'9'' 200 19 C+ C C- C D+ A
Analysis: An upside play. He is the last remaining player with a scouted potential of A. Feel like at this point of the draft, you really need to gamble and hope to get lucky.
#29) (from ) - Keith Bogans SF 6'5'' 215 23 C C+ C- B+ C- C
Analysis: The B+ defense is cool. Not sure if it is enough to get him into the first round given the names I have below starting off the second round but he should end up going somewhere in this 25-35 range which is why I slotted him around the middle of it to close out the first round.
Round 2:
#30) - Carlos Delfino SF 6'6'' 230 21 C B C- C+ C- B#31) - Luke Ridnour PG 6'2'' 175 22 C B C+ C D+ B
#32) - Luke Walton SF 6'8'' 235 23 C+ C+ C+ C+ C+ C
#33) (from ) - Jarvis Hayes SF 6'7'' 220 22 C B C- C D+ B
#34) (from ) - Brandon Hunter PF 6'7'' 260 23 B- D D C C+ C
#35) - Sasha Pavlovic SF 6'8'' 220 20 C+ B- C- C D+ C
#36) - Zarko Cabarkapa PF 6'11'' 235 22 C+ C+ C- C C+ B

#41) - Willie Green SG 6'4'' 200 22 C B- C- B- D+ C
#42) (from ) - Dahntay Jones SF 6'6'' 225 23 C+ C+ C- B- C- C
#43) (form ) - Brian Cook C 6'9'' 234 23 C B+ D+ C C B
#44) (from ) - Matt Carroll SG 6'6'' 212 23 C B+ C- C D+ C
#45) (from ) - Travis Hansen SF 6'6'' 205 25 C B D+ C D+ C
#46) - Jason Kapono SF 6'8'' 213 22 C A- D+ D+ C- C
#47) (from ) - Xue Yuyang C 7'0'' 265 21 C+ C D C+ C+ C
#48) (from ) - Malick Badiane C 6'11'' 240 19 C F+ D C C+ B
#49) (from ) - Kirk Penney SG 6'5'' 215 23 C B- C- C C C
#50) (from ) - Josh Powell PF 6'9'' 240 20 C+ C- D+ C+ C+ C
#51) (from ) - Ronald Dupree SF 6'7'' 210 22 C+ C+ C- C D+ C
#52) (from ) - James Singleton PF 6'8'' 230 22 C+ C C- C+ C+ C
#53) (from ) - Troy Bell PG 6'1'' 180 23 C C+ C+ C D+ C
#54) (from ) - Britton Johnsen PF 6'10'' 245 24 C+ C+ D+ C C C
#55) (from ) - Nedzad Sinanovic C 7'4'' 250 20 C+ C- D C+ C+ C
#56) (from ) - Earl Barron C 7'0'' 250 22 C D+ D C+ C+ C
#57) (from ) - Paccelis Morlende PG 6'2'' 185 22 C C C+ C+ C B
#58) (from ) - James Lang C 6'10'' 285 20 C D D C B- C
Analysis: Mr. Irrelevant is the pick the Rockets landed in exchange for the greatest Day 3 Free Agent signing ever, Scott Pollard. The Rockets take a chance on this 20-year old showing promise on the boards. He is absolutely massive at 285 lbs. If he has some shotblocking ability and some upside, could perhaps become a solid rotational big. To be honest, not sure who here is worth drafting so figured a flier on Lang may perhaps be fun.
