Figured I'd give this a whirl. As usual, all "worst" contracts are just my opinion.
Boston Celtics- Wat Misaka- 5 years, $90,000,000 - I like Wat a lot, I really do. But he's had a slight dip in his numbers this year and his turnovers are up. Still scoring and getting steals with the best of them, but this deal may come back to bite him in a few years.
Miami Heat - Marques Thompson- 3 years, $52,496,060 - I GUESS Thompson? I actually don't think it's that bad of a contract tbh- he rebounds and boards and does exactly what Miami needs him to do. All the other contracts are for young players (like Bauer, who I like so I didn't put him here), or two year deals that are easy to move if need be. Good situation Miami is in.
New Jersey Nets - Kody Augmon- 3 years, $60,480,000 - I love Augmon as a defender, but there's no question it's him. I was lucky to get expiring for him- he's older and isn't providing the same production he once was. Still a serviceable PG, and his contract WILL look better next year when there's only 2 seasons remaining, but it's just really hard to move that contract right now.
New York Knicks - Jalen Suggs- 4 years, $134,396,955 - Suggs is probably the worst contract in the league (up there with Kuminga)- but with the way the Knicks are playing, I don't think Skillz gives a rat's ass about his contract. Suggs has been magnificent for the Knicks, and they were one of the few teams that honestly could deal with Suggs's contract considering how their other stars are locked up on solid, below-market deals. If he keeps this production up the next few seasons, it'll get easier to move in 2037.
Orlando Magic - Ernie Vandeweghe- 7 years, $61,251,683 - I was going to put Brown here, but he actually produces extremely well all-around for the Magic and I can see why they're paying him that much at 3 blocks per game, 13.3 boards per game, and 11.4 ppg on 46% shooting. With Vandeweghe, it's different, because yes, he's only 25, but the D potential scares me. And maybe he'd produce more offensively if he didn't have so many other options around him, but I haven't seen it yet. Feels like that deal could come back to bite someone in a few seasons.
Philadelphia 76ers - Bronny James- 6 years, $57,136,069 - He's really the only option on this team. The average annual salaries are actually not that bad, and he's only 31, so by the time he starts to really decline, should only be 2-3 years left on the deal. That being said, he'll be 36 by the last season of the deal, so any TC death could severely hamstring the ability to move this contract.
Washington Wizards - none. Jah is a Wizard (pun intended) for keeping his cap clean. The only long-term deal that's not a rookie deal is Gallatin, and his $90,000,000 over 5 years is well-spent with his all-around game. THe other contracts are nice two year deals or rookie deals or expiring. Great stuff.
Atlanta Hawks - Jalen Hayes- 4 years, $84,871,537 - this was a technicality as, again- I really do like Hayes- but he's 32, he has the D potential, and if he has a crap-tastic TC this could become an odorous contract. Still providing excellent value with 20/13/4 stocks, but yeah. He ain't gettin' any younger.
New Orleans Hornets - Lorenzo Laboissonnier - 4 years, $52,221,000 - this was actually really tough. I had a number of options. My first instinct was to put Wanzer- he's already 32 and signed through age 37 and could implode at any time. Plus- his numbers are down this year from years past. But he's still the MVP, Pig has been messing around with the DC and he'll be fine for a few seasons. Hopefully. Do I go with TT, signed through age 36 at more than what Wanzer is making? He's still producing as well and has a lot of cache around the league- so I went with LL. I only really went with him because he's getting paid that much and isn't really playing. On any other team where he's starting, this contract is fine. But really, this was a 3-way-tie between LL, Wanzer, and Thompson.
Chicago Bulls - Eric Church - 4 years, $94,301,712 - I can't really fault it because Church is a great player who still produces- I just wish this contract was about $3-4 million less per year. His stock-to ratio this year isn't elite but he does score well. I don't mind Rixey III's contract either, for anyone that cares. His numbers will go back up now that he's healthy.
Cleveland Cavaliers - Saul Mariaschin - 5 years, $90,000,000 - Saul's numbers in most categories are the best of his career, so why is he on this list? Saul will be 33 by the end of this contract, and he's a Harvard grad, so at any point during this contract he could decide to retire and join an investment firm or some shit.
Detroit Pistons - Dayo Balewa- 3 years, $58,500,000 - It's actually a really solid contract, and Dayo is a good PG who can play SG or SF if need be. I just had to pick someone from my team, and this was the only one I could genuinely say.
Indiana Pacers - Emoni Bates- 3 years, $70,200,000 - If this deal was one year shorter, it'd be totally fine. I just don't like that 3rd year for what Emoni has produced this year. His numbers have started to decline and it might only get worse.
Milwaukee Bucks - Jaron Walton - 3 years, $50,400,000 - Andy can'tgive this contract away trade this contract for what he feels is fair value. And Walton is not a BAD player, he just can't play PG with those turnovers.
Toronto Raptors - Kenny Miles - 4 years, $90,720,000 - Miles is great, still producing, but I had to pick someone and this was it. As for all of these older players- one bad TC and this contract gets a heckuva lot worse.
Dallas Mavericks - no one. Hot damn- this roster is great cap wise. The 3 big contract guys they have, Rocha, Worm, and Gooms all justify the value of their deals very well. Nothing to complain about here.
Denver Nuggets - Sean Ellison - 6 years, $124,985,150 - I hate this contract with a passion. I don't think his value will hold up the whole length of this deal. I could have said Hayes, since he's 35, but there's a decent chance he retires at some point during this deal and he's not making THAT much all things considered. De'Andre Hunter's contract might be my favorite in the league because of how funny it is. And Cunningham is on a two-year deal so he'll be a nice expiring in the offseason. But Ellison I just don't like. His numbers are down in almost all categories this year and I think that money will be dead money near the end of it.
Houston Rockets - no one. Broph purged this roster of anything resembling a contract so his cap sheet is clean.
Minnesota Timberwolves - no one. Someone take Chad Slanters from hf - he's really good and only on a two-year deal.
San Antonio Spurs - DaJuan Wagner, Jr. - 5 years, $109,200,000 - this isn't really a bad contract because he's so so good. But it can be a problem if Royal can't surround him with competent players- his roster is Wagner, Green, Edwards (who is expiring) and a bunch of fillers that just barely makes it below the cap. Green was a candidate for this too.
Utah Jazz - Dario Stojakovic - 4 years, $75,000,000 - I almost went with Chet, but his blocks and rebounds are elite and he fits great next to Groza. Stojakovic was better numbers-wise when he was on the Nets, so perhaps playing with more talent has lowered his numbers across the board and I'm an idiot, but it's just a lot of money for a guy who is around the 4th option on that team. Maybe he'll step up if Richardson prices himself out of Utah in the offseason.
Memphis Grizzlies - Wah Wah Jones - 6 years, $90,000,000 - I'm a massive Wah Wah fan, as you all know, but a max for 6 years? Damn. That's a ton of money to be giving him.
Golden State Warriors - Jalen Duran - 4 years, $60,000,000 - I'm just not a fan of 30-year-old bigs with low percentages like Duran has. He doesn't get boards, he shoots less than 40%, and he doesn't score that much. At least his stocks are fine.
Los Angeles Clippers - Vern Mikkelsen - 7 years, $52716,612 - I absolutely understand greeme's reasoning here: "Elite post d. Low tos. Good rebounder. Even gets 2 stocks per 36. Not an elite player but a very good one." I just don't agree with it- not sure you'll see many people want to trade for a contract that long with a guy who doesn't look elite at any one aspect of his game.
Los Angeles Lakers - no one. Nanz has a clean bill of cap. I guess you could put Winscott- but he's a nice expiring next season.
Phoenix Suns - no one. Andrew got out from under Wat's contract and this salary situation looks glorious. Nice job.
Portland Trailblazers - Jonathan Kuminga - 4 years, $137,812,500 - do I even really need to get into this one? I had to give up two firsts to get out from under Kuminga's deal. It's bad. He's still producing- which allows him to still be dealt MAYBE, but a bad TC and this becomes absolutely 100000% impossible to move until maybe the 2nd-to-last or last year of this deal.
Sacramento Kings - Ray Kirkwasser - 4 years, $40,391,261 - this was tough. I kinda wanted to put Vic because his numbers aren't what they used to be, but he's still producing stocks and boards and doesn't have to be an option at this point to produce. So he's fine. Kirkwasser does get blocks, but it's just a long deal for me for someone that Stevie wants to just "do a job". IDK. Maybe this section should be "no one" as well.
Seattle Supersonics - no one. I rescued him from salary cap hell last season. Ward Williams is making $2 million a year for 3 years, and that's whatever because it doesn't make much of a dent.
Boston Celtics- Wat Misaka- 5 years, $90,000,000 - I like Wat a lot, I really do. But he's had a slight dip in his numbers this year and his turnovers are up. Still scoring and getting steals with the best of them, but this deal may come back to bite him in a few years.
