He was one of the first Point Centers! Should have A- handles.
Terribly inefficient scorer, though -- even for his time.

In Stokes' second season, he set an NBA record by grabbing 1,256 rebounds (17.4 per game), ranked third in the league in assists with 331 (4.6 average) and scored 15.6 points a game. The Royals moved to Cincinnati before the 1957-58 season, and Stokes finished second in rebounding average (18.1) to Bill Russell, third again in assists (6.4), behind only guards Cousy and Dick McGuire, and scored 16.9 points a game. A 35-percent shooter in his three seasons, he averaged 16.4 points, 17.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists. Playing 37 minutes a contest in his 202-game career, he was named second-team all-league each year. "Competitive, hard-nosed, tough," former NBA player and coach Gene Shue described Stokes in 1992. "He was a coach's dream." And the %s in those days were skewed- if you went up for a shot and were fouled and you missed the initial shot, it counted as a missed shot. And Stokes had the shit fouled out of him.

He shot 35%. Lower fg% than every team in the league. Can we stop acting like we have special knowledge about guys who played almost 70 years ago and just let Spence make classes.

Still bad for his time. He was probably a net-negative offensively with his inefficiency -- before anyone knew anything about it. He was on 3 losing teams!

I think KC Jones is a stud defender, but Jones having better offensive ratings off the bat and ELITE nonetheless is hilarious.
With these notes Stokes is like 4th or 5th best player lol

Twyman and Stokes should get +20 potential forever if they are on the same team.

K.C. Jones PG 6'1'' 200 23 C+ C B+ B+ C+ A Elite. Elite inside, midrange, handles, quickness, perimeter defense. Maximum rebounding for a PG. Very good stocks. Cannot shoot the 3. Cannot jump. O_ o #1

Over the first 3 seasons of his career, Maurice Stokes grabbed a league-best 3492 rebounds (prime Pettit was 2nd with 3417), and he had the 2nd-most assists in the league with 1062 (only behind Bob Cousy). Stokes is the only player EVER to finish top-2 in both of these categories over a 3-year period.

If stokes is that wtf is bill Russell gonna be? B D+ B A A? Russell might be one of the only players I think would deserve an A- on defense and rebounding right out the gate. The greatest to ever do it defensively.

Russell's passing was incredible too- the fulcrum of the Celtics fast break back then. He would rebound it and the outlet passes were always perfect.
