Red Rocket cumin to you live with the lotto preview, of who will be selected when in the upcoming draft! Gotta say the draft is top heavy and falls into oblivion fast. So without further ado lets get to pickin.
1. Bill Russell C 6'10'' 215 22 B C A- A- A- A Elite. Elite blocks, steals, post defense, quickness, strength, offensive rebounding and defensive rebounding. Very good ball handler, inside scorer and jumpshot.
This is a no brainer, only an idiot or lums wouldn’t pick him first. Bill is gonna be a game changer for whatever team gets him.
2. Elgin Baylor SF 6'5'' 225 22 B+ B B C B+ A Elite inside scorer. Very good jumpshot, handles and rebounds. Good passer. Some stocks. Mediocre to poor man to man defender.
Notes say it all, he will score, but he wont defend. His main issue other than that is he will shoot the 3, but if his jump is very good, that would imply his 3 is not so very good. Since he scores and boards, he’ll still be a good 3 though, just not Paul good.
3. Sam Jones SG 6'4'' 198 23 C+ B C+ B+ C A ery good two way player. Good jumpshot and handles. Above average 3 point shot. Very good stocks.
Not often someone gets “very good two way” but Sam is just this. One could say he might be a better 2nd pick but Elgin has the name recognition so Sam will go third in the draft. The worry with Sam is that he’s a good or very good jumper.
4. Willie Naulls PF 6'6'' 225 22 B C C- B B A good inside and midrange. GOod post defender and strength as well. Some stocks, good handles.
Willie Boards and does some scoring, and isn’t a liability on D, though his man to man might not be all that great. As a big this good and A potential, he’s gonna make someone happy with the 4th pick.
5. Tom Heinsohn PF 6'7'' 218 22 B- C C- B+ B- A Good inside and midrange. Solid stocks. Good post defender and strength. Solid handles.
This is where the draft begins to thin out, though still solid. With the right camps Tom will be pretty dang good. Really interested in what he will look like as a SF.
6. Swede Halbrook C 7'3'' 235 23 C+ C- D+ C+ B+ B Very good blocks, offensive and defensive rebounding and post defense. Elite strength. Very slow. Can't jump.
This guy will score and has all the notes you want for a big. Only thing he really needs camps on is jumpshot and inside. No jumps and C+ inside… means strength and inside are close to 85. Depending on the team Swede could go as high as 3
7. Johnny McCarthy PG 6'1'' 185 22 C+ C B+ B- C- B Good inside, handles and midrange. Some steals. Solid man to man defender.
Johnny is the best PG in the draft and is gonna be 20+ ppg in his first season. Wont get steals but will defend the outside.
8. Bob Hopkins C 6'8'' 205 22 C+ C C- B- C+ B Very good inside and jumpshot. Also very good handles and post defense. Solid steals and blocks. Rebounding could use some work.
Low boards but high volume point big. It’ll be a boom or bust pick that brings Bob to the team. B potential says he’s boom or bust.
9. Phil Jordon C 6'10'' 205 23 C+ C C- B B- B Good jumpshot. Solid inside and handles. Has some stocks as well. Very good post defender.
Phil isn’t gonna be great, but he will be a solid back up 4/5. He’ll need a +24 to get there though. Depending on his potential, he could even one day become a starter. About here is were the OK bigs will start coming on
10. Bob Burrow C 6'7'' 228 22 C D+ C- B C+ B Very good post defender and strength. Some stocks.
Another not great player, but with a +24 should be a respectable backup 4/5
11. Ron Sobie PG 6'3'' 185 22 C B- C+ B C B Very good jumpshot. Solid handles and steals. Mediocre 3 point shot.
Ron is gonna score, and high percentages from inside the arc, however his new coach is gonna suffer from ulcers if he starts shooting the three. Looks like he’ll have decent perimeter D, and wont be a complete liability on the glass getting boards.
12. Joe Holup SF 6'6'' 215 22 C B- C- A- C B Very good jumpshot. Solid handles and post and perimeter defender. Some stocks.
Joe is the kind of guy you want shutting down a scoring SF. His liabilities are getting boards and taking shots, but someone is gonna use a lotto to get him.
13. Jim McLaughlin SF 6'4'' 201 21 B- C C- C C B Very good inside, jumpshot, steals and post defense.
Jim will be moved to PF and see if he can excel there, but might fail due to lack of boards
