Well we are back and the second ever draft class of BBS2020 is finishing up their first year! Lets take a look back at how the rookie class did during their first professional year. We have gathered all 47 rookies who have actually played and ranked them based on how they performed during their first season. We have also highlighted the players that we believe will take home the rookie 1st and 2nd team honors! And as you can tell there were not many contenders for SF and PG!
1 Dimitris Diamantidis SG Houston Rockets
Stats : 32.5PPG 7.6 RPG 4.1 APG 1.4 SPG 0.2 BPG 2.3 TOPG 48.2 FG% 87 FT% 41 3PT%
Dimitris has taken the league by storm. There has only ever been one rookie to average more points than him per game during a season in the history of the BBS/NBA and that was Wilt. There is very little doubt that he will win rookie of the year. The only reason why it is a question is the fact that he missed several games early on. He has shot amazing %'s and considering that he is on a poor team he has been able to keep his turnovers in check. If the Rockets get some lotto luck they will come out of this season with a great trio in Marion / DD and a top draft pick. Hopefully DD's greatness doesn't get wasted for too long!
2 Yao Ming C Philadelphia 76ers
Stats : 21.3 PPG 12.6 RPG 2 APG 0.9 SPG 1.2 BPG 2.4 TOPG 48.9 FG% 81 FT%
In almost any other season this would be the clear cut rookie of the year. The giant from China has come in and dominated down low. Yao is 2nd amoung rookies in PPG and is top ten in the whole league in rebounds. He is also shooting a great % from both the field and the FT line. With another offseason to work on his game Yao could very well end up in Tim Duncan territory by the time his rookie contract ends!
3 Tayshaun Prince SF Utah Jazz
Stats : 16.2 PPG 5.6 RPG 1.9 APG 1.4 SPG 0.7 BPG 1 TOPG 43.8 FG% 81 FT% 40 3PT %
Prince was one of the surprise picks of the draft. Nobody really doubted his ability though. He came into the league with a very high floor and probably the most league ready game in the draft class and it has showed. He plays good defense and doesn't turn over t he ball. He has also shown to shoot the ball very well from outside the paint. Overall Prince is a very talented player but there are doubts as to how much he can improve his game in the future.
4 Caron Butler SG New Orleans Hornets
Stats : 19.7 PPG 5.5 RPG 3.6 APG 1.8 SPG 0.1 BPG 2.3 TOPG 45.4 FG% 79 FT% 35 3PT %
The youngster out of Connecticut has shown to be a very good offensive player. He is the 2nd best wing scorer to come out of this draft. Butler has benefited by playing on probably the worst team in the league giving him the opportunity to come out and be the focal point of the offense. For his development to improve Butler will have to improve his 3 point shot but there is no reason to think he won't do this.
5 Carlos Boozer PF Milwaukee Bucks
Stats : 21.2 PPG 9.2 RPG 1.4 APG 0.9 SPG 0.1 BPG 1.6 TOPG 46.4 FG% 75 FT%
Boozer had high expectation coming into the draft and during training camps the pressure had appeared to be to much for him. One the season started though Boozer really turned it on. He has showed that he is a very strong force down low and on the glass. He doesn't block shots at all. He is probably the worst shot blocking big in the league but he makes up for it with the rest of his game. He will look to the offseason to work on his defense in the post and help lead Milwaukee back to prominence.
6 Drew Gooden PF Minnesota Timberwolves
Stats : 13.4 PPG 7.6 RPG 1.6 APG 0.9 SPG 0.4 BPG 1 TOPG 44.2 FG% 79 FT% 50 3 PT %
Drew was a very under the radar pick coming out of Kansas. He was given a chance to show what he can do in Minnesota this year though and he really shined. He has been a very efficient player for the Wolves. good%'s all around for a rookie and a very low 1 turnover per game. Drew will have to work hard to keep his minutes but it looks like he will have a role for many years in Minnesota.
7 John Salmons SG New Orleans Hornets
Stats : 17.9 PPG 4.9 RPG 3.6 APG 1.3 SPG 0.2 BPG 1.6 TOPG 44.9 FG% 71 FT% 40 3PT%
Salmons is clearly deserving a spot on the all rookie teams but he will probably be left off due to positional depth
8 Luis Scola PF Minnesota Timberwolves
Stats : 15.3 PPG 6.5 RPG 2 APG .7 SPG .4 BPG 1 TOPG 41.1 FG% 80 FT% 36 3PT %
Scola has had a nice rookie year. He needs to improve on his shooting in games to take the next step!
9 Udonis Haslem PF Washington Wizards
Stats : 11.1 PPG 10.3 RPG 2.3 APG .9 SPG .5 BPG 1.2 TOPG 43.3 FG% 76 FT%
Haslem has been the 2nd best rebounder in the class. He has a chance of beating out Gooden for an all rookie spot.
10 Arvydas Macijauskas SG Milwaukee Bucks
Stats : 19.3 PPG 5 RPG 2.6 APG 1.5 SPG 0.2 BPG 2.7 TOPG 44.7 FG% 80 FT% 38 3PT %
Another very solid SG in this class. He can score but needs to work on the rest of his game.
11 Nene Hilario C Toronto Raptors
Stats : 9.5 PPG 8.7 RPG 1.2 APG .8 SPG 1.3 BPG .7 TOPG 43.5 FG% 71 FT%
Nene could sneak out the all rookie 2nd team center. Very low TOs and he blocks better than most in this class. The extra games Amar'e played will probably be the difference
12 Amar'e Stoudemire C Chicago Bulls
Stats : 14.6 PPG 7.9 RPG 1.3 APG 0.9 SPG 0.8 BPG 1.7 TOPG 50.1 FG% 64 FT%
Amar'e came into the league with tons of expectations and he is well on his way to meeting them. He just moved from a title contender in Sacramento to a quick rebuild spot in Chicago where he can take a much larger role in the offense. Amar'es dunk game is strong and he has been very explosive during his rookie year. In the upcoming seasons he is going to have to add a little more to his mid-range to be a complete threat. He will probably get the nod for all league 2nd team due to the fact that he is going to have played more games than any other rookie in the league.
13 Milos Vujanic PG Indiana Pacers
Stats : 14.5 PPG 3.1 RPG 3.6 APG 0.9 SPG 0.1 BPG 2.1 TOPG 47.2 FG% 83 FT$ 42 3PT%
Milos leads the way in a very weak PG class. He has shown the ability to score in Indiana though. He has very nice percentages and isn't turning the ball over tons. The rest of his game leaves a lot to be desired though. He doesn't really do anything on defense, doesn't rebound well and does not get his teammates involved. There is still plenty of time to take his game to the next level though.
14 Jiri Welsch SG
15 D.J. Mbenga C
16 Tito Maddox SG
17 Federico Kammerichs PF
18 Chris Jefferies SF
19 Nenad Krstic C
20 Smush Parker PG Jazz
Stats : 11.5 PPG 4.6 RPG 6.1 APG 1.1 SPG 0.1 BPG 3.5 TOPG 42.5 FG% 79 FT% 30 3PT %
Smush has shown his youthfulness this season. He has shown flashes of being a decent PG in the league and on other occasions shown how he is no question a rookie. Smush has rebounded fairly well for a PG and is getting teammates involved. He has turned the ball over way to much though an his outside shooting has been pretty poor. Smush will need to work hard in the off-season to be able to keep his minutes next season. He is the 2nd best PG based on performance in this rookie class though.
21 Dajuan Wagner SG
22 Bostjan Nachbar SF Timberwolves
Stats : 5 PPG 4 RPG 1.1 APG 0.6 SPG 0.3 BPG 0.8 TOPG 47.1 FG% 75 FT% 41 3PT%
Well apparently besides Prince no SFs have done jack shit this season. Nachbar has been a nice surprise though. He has gotten a decent amount of minutes and protected the ball well. He has also put up really solid percentages. He may find his spot as a bench piece in the league for the future.
