Denver Nuggets: C-
Don’t see any good additions. Lost Hudson and didn’t replace him. Good to keep Cousy, but he’ll be making 33 million at 38. I can’t get too worked up about that but it’s not ideal. I guess they’re in a holding pattern until CC rebuilds.
Houston Rockets B-
Quiet offseason but they added Lavelle, retained their core, and should be near the top of the conference. I definitely think it’s time to trade Paxson though…
Utah Jazz: F
FBB cut my lotto pick, the idiot I took at 15 fell apart in TC, and I struck out in FA. Who's behind all this?
Minnesota Timberwolves: A
Drafted Jerry West and landed one of the premier FA picks, which they flipped for the seventh pick from this draft. Nice.
Memphis Grizzlies: F
Love Rex. Have no idea what he’s doing. He seems to mishandle basic team building stuff like keep enough salary to make deals and retaining his solid players. Seems like he tried to underpay his useful players in FA–not a great idea if you don’t have your picks and are a year from the CY. Not looking good for Memphis.
San Antonio Spurs: C
I think Ashes and I are having a similar time muddling along through bad draft classes. More important than ever to be god awful rather than just bad. We’re learning this lesson together. We have each other and little else.
Dallas Mavericks: F
A few seasons ago I did one of these articles after Brian signed Jalen Duran and drafted Ray Radziszewski in the top 10 and Brian got mad and called it a trash article. Disrespectful. He gets an F.
Golden State Warriors: B+
Dukes was a pretty sick addition. No idea who Tony Davis is but John is excited about him. Upgrading over Tucker at PG is huge, though I’d definitely play Slater over Dayo. Perfect spot for Slater. Warriors could ship it this year.
Los Angeles Clippers: B
Lots of insane comments from Greeme this offseason. Not sure if he made any moves other than maxing Heinsohn. Amazing team though.
Portland Trail Blazers: B+
I didn’t like the Dukes deal but have to reevaluate after Buzz’s TC. He looks amazing. Thought the Blazers-Kings deal was more lateral than anything else. Didn’t mind it for either. I like the Blazers roster though would like to see them beef up in the frontcourt a bit.
Sacramento Kings: B+
Similar story to the Blazers. I was big on Rayford before TC but Zeke is a clear upgrade from him. Traded in scoring for rebounding/frontcourt defense in exchanging Koa for Worm. Ed slots in nicely at SF, though it hurts to lose the flexibility to move him around based on matchup. Great addition in Kiki.
Los Angeles Lakers: B
Attles looks good and was the right choice at 7. They didn’t do much else but should be in the running for a top three pick. Have to think there’s a good youth + picks deal out there for Sears. Nasty young man.
Phoenix Suns: N/A
I like to give out an N/A every so often and Andrew has earned this one. Wake up and deal me Ernie Beck so you can tank much?
Seattle Supersonics: C
Matt is a chaos agent. Twenty-one selections in the next two draft. Carrying seven rookies this season. Eighteen million in cut salary. He’s doing shit you’ve never even thought of, bringing an incredibly innovative spirit to a 47 year-old text-based simulation game made by some guy who probably worked in IT for IBM for 25 years and purchased his wife on eBay, and it’s not working out at all.
