I mean obviously I would've wanted DM. Let's be honest though. Knicks move 25, 27 and 29 unprotected plus 26 and 28 pick swaps and all we'd hear is: "Knicks lol. That tiny backcourt won't work" or "Knicks moving all those picks for a player that won't help". Lowkey the Cavs backcourt is pretty small too but they have the frontcourt D that should help hide a lot of that. Knicks have Mitch Rob who isn't a great defender and Randle who can't defend Play . Mitchell is a great name and would get more eyes in NY but a trio of Randle, DM and Brunson isn't going anywhere. Cavs have a much better roster yeah but still, Knicks passed on a young star who wanted to be there Fair and that does sting. It's tough though because the Knicks roster needs severe fixing. DM doesn't fix the roster, just adds a bigger name to it. Does that help the way the franchise is viewed? idk. Assuming the deal would've been: RJ, IQ, Fournier, 3 unprotected, 2 swaps and 2 2nd's. I don't see that line up of Mitch/Randle/Grimes/DM/Brunson doing much damage. Then again, Knicks are still kind of stuck in no mans land. Eh. |

Stars don't want to go to NY and they finally had one that wanted to be there. |

Right now they are a treadmill team with no direction… at least they have some youth and a boatload of picks. The move now would be to trade Fournier, Rose and Randle and showcase the youth with an actual guard in Brunson and see what these kids have. If they suck, who cares? We have our pick. If they are good, great. We can use assets to improve the roster around them.
I just never saw the point in trading RJ in a Mitchell deal, especially at the cost of 3 UP1sts and Grimes. We weren’t one piece away. Aren’t two pieces away. Mitchell doesn’t move the needle that much imo.

It’ll be so frustrating if they valued Grimes and Obi like that and then neither of them get 30+ minutes a game this season. You need to showcase these guys if you value them enough to hold up a deal like this. Especially Grimes, who was not included in any DM offers.
