46’ Draft Quintessential Roundtable
1- Willis Reed seems to be clear cut #1 Pick in this draft. Who's your remaining top 4 in this draft?
the original michael - I don’t think there is a clear top fee after Willis. Bob Love should be in there, there’s there is a handful of guys. Mullins is interesting. Caldwell, Hazzard stick out to me. It’ll be very interesting to see how things play out after the first pick.
kobe - It's tough because a lot of it will depend on potential. I think Bob Love and Walt Hazzard will be the next two off the board, not sure in which order. Then it becomes a crap shoot because there's a lot of mid lotto guys that could go next. I'll say Jon McGlocklin and Jim Barnes to round out my top 4. Love their notes. Some of the other guys probably have higher potential but have major holes. Both McGlocklin and Barnes come in ready to play after their camps and hopefully a decent TC.
Stevie B - Hazzard and Love are for sure the next two IMO. I like Mullins, Sloan, McGlocklin, and Barnes. There are many options though tbh.
nybombers3 - Hazzard has to be up there for sure. Love looks cool. I think after that, it's kind of a pick em. I mean there are some players that would fit there but I can see a big handfull of guys that can go from 4 on.
2- This appears to be a big man heavy draft. Who would be your top wing off the board in this class?
the original michael - I like Mullins. A B- B+ wing is juicy. Can get him to B A- after camps before that first TC and he’s guaranteed to be a good wing
kobe - I think Bob Love is a wing so I say him. But the first listed SF/SG off the board will be Jerry Sloan probably. But I like Jon McGlocklin.
Stevie B - Love looks to be a wing, but I'm not so sure since his perimeter defense is horrific. I'll prob roll Mullins even though I'm scared about his per d ever becoming respectable.
nybombers3 - I guess Mullins. Give ma Love and let me move him to SF but assuming he wouldn't count, yeah. Mullins. Sloan wouldn't be crazy far off either.
3- Jerry Sloan's attributes are interesting. Where does he rank for you in the lotto?
the original michael - The lack of 3 point shot knocks him down my draft board. He would thrive in an inside, balanced offense but I like my wings to shoot. With that said, he’s easily a top 10 pick still.
kobe - Sloan is too much of a tweener for my liking so that causes him to fall a bit on my list. Looks like just more of a defensive stopper at this point. His TC's will be important to see if he can ever become a respectable scorer.
Stevie B - He's in that 4-8 range tbh. Depends on what you're specifically looking for. There's so many ways it could go.
nybombers3 - He's in that "can go 4" tier IMO. Don't think I'd take him 4 but who knows. A player like KC who had subpar 3 can gain it with TC and boosts. I don't see why Sloan can't.
4- PG Walt Hazzard is joining a league where elite point guards are starting to rise again. Does he go top 5 or slip?
the original michael - I listed him above in my top four and I think he should probably go in that range. He looks the part of a future elite PG. No real weakness.
kobe - Walt is definitely going top 5. PGs are still thin around the league and while his notes weren't great, that probably means he has very high potential. He could blow up with the PG TCs.
Stevie B - I think Hazzard is 2. He'll no doubt have a ton of potential, and the base is good enough to make him an elite PG by year 2-3.
nybombers3 - He goes either 2 or 3. I think I'd happily take him 2nd. Not sure what his notes are regarding volume but I doubt it's bad.
5- There's two teams with a couple lotto picks (Sacramento, San Antonio). What's your prediction on how that shakes out?
the original michael - One of those teams will jump to #1. I bet it’ll happen. I feel like both teams are in prime jump spot in the lottery as well.
kobe - Sacramento is sitting pretty if one of their picks jump. But their is a big fall off after Reed then 2-9 is pretty bunched up. So ashes should get a good player or two still even though his picks fell a bit.
Stevie B - I hope I land 1 and 2! That's all I'll say about that!
nybombers3 - SAC lands 1 and whatever they are projected
SAS doesn't jump.
6- There's a lot of talk on how deep this draft is. Who are some guys you can see dropping late and being good value picks?
the original michael - Agreed. It’s deep. Not top heavy. I could see some PGs drop like Weiss or Thrassher due to lack of rebounding, but both will be great scoring guards in this league.
kobe - There are a lot of good bigs so some of them will drop. I like Gerald Govan a lot.
Stevie B - I could see a guy like Thrasher or Weiss dropping due to rebounding concerns. I could see guys like Silas and Washington slipping due to a lack of blocks as well.
nybombers3 - Any player lacking rebounds will drop. There's a few guys I kind of like later in the draft but won't drop names. There usually is at least one really good/great C potential guy. Not sure if he's been fished out yet.
7- Does Paul Silas lack of blocks kick him out your top 10? Thoughts on the undersized big man?
the original michael - I used to be big on blocks. I’m trending towards wanting steals out of my bigs. If he can do everything else and can steal, he should still be a pick inside the top 10.
kobe - Lack of blocks definitely drops Silas a good bit for me but he will still go top 10 probably based on potential.
Stevie B - Silas will prob slip out of the top 10, but I think John Thompson will go in the top 10 due to having solid blocks.
nybombers3 - No. Maybe he goes a bit lower then he should be going but he'll be top 10 still. No blocks isn't a good enough reason for him to drop past 10.
8- Does Scotty Pierce project as a SF to you? How would you camp him?
the original michael - It’s possible. Another guy like Sloan with no 3 PT shot. Not crazy about those guys on the wings. No stocks either. Interesting player and will be fun to see where he lands.
kobe - I always move guys like that to SF so yes I would move him and camp him as a SF for sure.
Stevie B - Yeah, he's def gunna have to be a 3 since he has no stocks whatsoever.
nybombers3 - Oh yeah. I would want to see how he plays first but maybe inside, jump shot and rebounding? If his 3 is non existent or even bad, I wouldn't mess with it much.
9- Your prediction on what team wins lotto?
the original michael - I said Spurs or Kings earlier so I’ll pick one of them…hmm… Spurs have been “tanking” longer so I’ll go with them!
kobe - Kings have best chances.
Stevie B - KINGS!!!
nybombers3 - Kings
10- Who are you most excited to see in upcoming drafts?
the original michael - Walt Clyde Frazier baby! I need Oscar to come back so I can trade for him!
kobe - Whoever Spence makes good.
Stevie B - Once we get into the 80s/90s, that's always fun.
nybombers3 - Walt Clyde. I need him for sure.
