While the rules state 4 GMs per Roundtable, I fucked up and took everyone who wanted in and turned out - 7 GMs wanted in (6 actually responded).
I spoke to Spencer and he said he will make a one-time exception and let me get AC.
1) Heading into Opening Night, what are your expectations for your team this season?
(Galo ) - We're hoping to reset. There's been a lot of selling and buying in the East this off-season. Some teams have loaded up and some have sold off. Hoping to be in the playoff mix.
(Braz ) - Has to be repeat or bust but that is easier said than done. I had a great run these last two years outscoring everyone but the team gets thinner and older while other teams in the west become much stronger.
(Stevie B ) - I'm hopeful to win around 50 games. Hazzard isn't going to be ready this season, but with the other guys I think we'll have a good shot. Horace/LJ/Dick/Paxson are all quality options. Interested to see how Barnes does holding his own as well.
(autumn harold ) - I think we’re great. The top of the West is really good, and some of the other teams have the ability to get a lot better if they go all in, but right now I think we’re as good as anyone. We definitely don’t have the shotblocking we had last yeat, but my rookie bigs both have elite post defense, and Slick, Nelson, and Lloyd all get stocks and have low turnovers. Expecting to have an elite defense again; we’ll see about the offense but I think it’s improved.
(2 years left ) - Well, hopefully we can make it back to the Finals. More realistic I guess would be to play the Raptors to 7 games again at the least. Somewhere around 55-60 wins is the goal, don't think we really lost anybody that wasn't properly replaced so should be manageable.
(the original michael ) - Just want to see my young guys sim. Very excited to see Wali Jones, Ken Charlton put up 20+PPG on elite shooting %. Curious to see how Govan sims after I camp him. We will probably be a mid to late lottery team… just building for next year.
2) Which team do you feel had the best offseason? Which had the worst?
(Galo ) - Obviously the Spurs won the off-season. Anytime you land a top 5 player in FA - its a big W. I didn't like what the Bucks got for Petit. I agreed it was time to move on from the Petit/KC core but just didn't like the return. Will be interesting to see if they sit on KC till they get the right offer or move him soon. His value drops again next year turning 33 and in the last year of his deal.
(Braz ) - Kings had the best offseason followed by the Grizz. Both teams went from lotto to playoffs and maybe even topline contender. Props to Kobe as well for putting together a squad for CY. Even have to give a nod to Pacers for starting a rebuild with pick 3/4 despite my Hamilton hate. As for worst...hmmm Outlaws gave away a lot of talent for a bunch of crap.
(Stevie B ) - Not counting my squad, I liked what Skillz did for the most part. He was having an excellent offseason until the McCoy move. Grizz are looking good. Ashes almost kind of wins by default landing Oscar. He has the pieces to make that a really scary team moving forward. Worst would have to be Mike and his Knicks. Losing pieces for free hurts. His situation isn't awful, but man it's tough to recover when you lose an all timer like Oscar.
(autumn harold ) - Hawks, Spurs, Grizz, and Kings had the best offseasons. Bulls ended up in no man’s land. Lakers parted with too much to get their pick back. Rockets failed to deal me Lenny Wilkens. Probably missing some bad offseasons.
(2 years left ) - Will just get the worst off-season out of the way and go with the Knicks of course. Completely out of his control, but when you lose a top 5 asset for nothing and are forced into a rebuild, yeah, hard to find worse. A close second for the worst is the Wizards. Break is wasting cap on backup quality players on long-term deals, drafted a scrub, no real hope to be found there. Spurs of course won the off-season, but for teams that did some actual work I'll go with the Kings adding Horace, Dick and Paxson for what seems to be nothing much of value.
(the original michael ) - The Spurs had the best obviously. Oscar aside, they added Morton and Wilcox for basically nothing and still have ammo to go get another star.
3) Which moves are you still looking to make?
(Galo ) - In the process of getting a point guard. Truly had an atrocious PG TC LOL never seen anything like it. That's the tough part about camping guys and then a bad TC can take it all away. Hopefully gets done soon.
(Braz ) - Ugh I want a big trade but need to see this out. I need to be smart with mins and depth to ensure everyone clicks.
(Stevie B ) - I could probably use a more established big. Having 3 rookie bigs as apart of my rotation isn't really ideal. Could even use a more established PG since Hazzard doesn't seem to be quite ready yet.
(autumn harold ) - I’m aiming high but don’t want to name names on account of it’s proprietary information which would cause me severe bodily harm if disclosed.
(2 years left ) - If it's possible to upgrade at SG or at PF with a few firsts and expiring I'll go for it but otherwise basically stuck with the roster as is. Maybe look for some better depth closer to the deadline when sellers are more desperate to win the tanking wars.
(the original michael ) - Always looking to better this team. I shopped Bellamy and received some offers, but I’m not dealing him unless I get what I want which is a really good prospect or a juicy prospect/pick package… Danny ainge style. Other than that, maybe take on contracts for picks. That’s it.
4) Which teams do you feel like are in danger of missing CY in the next 3 seasons?
(Galo ) - Maybe Washington or New Jersey. They need a lot of luck in lotto coming up as their rosters are pretty bare. They don't have a ton of talent right now.
(Braz ) - I have no idea who is in CY past this year but lets toss Break out there. And if the west remains deep anyone who doesn't rebuild quick enough out west.
(Stevie B ) - I also think the obvious answer is Break considering his resume, but let's roll with the Pistons if they can't get a reset done this season while the East is weak.
(autumn harold ) - Sixers are in the danger zone beep beep. You look at that loaded Eastern Conference and you see CY mainstays like Break, Game, Marty, JAH, Kobe, etc. and you just know it’s hell over there. Forgot the question.
(2 years left ) - Hard to see the Wizards making it without some great lotto luck. Break has still learned nothing and it doesn't seem like he really cares to learn anything. I'd say it was from a place of not caring about being in the league, but we are talking about a man who has been fired I think 4 times and came back as soon as possible each time. So guess he's just dumb.
(the original michael ) - The Nets obviously. No talent at all and they don’t even have their pick this year. Royal will eventually be CY (please tag him in this 😉).
5) How was your TC and Preseason?
(Galo ) - TC was so so. Seemed like it was reset TC like broph alluded to. Preseason was okay - same some good and bad. Mostly just testing a few spots out.
(Braz ) - Boring and boring but we are already back to back champs so I can not expect them to get much better. Pre was useless like most times. Jacks still got it.
(Stevie B ) - My TC was fine. Larry getting to A- outside is crucial. I think Hazzard will see a similar trajectory to Larry Brown where he will explode the following TC. Aside from that, my main guys held the line for the most part.
(autumn harold ) - My boy Luke Jackson popped and then shot 63% with 15 rebounds per 36 mins in pre. Finkel’s simming beautifully and went up to A scouted potential. HRS went +3 and to Memphis. Decent.
(2 years left ) - They were fine. Nobody really did much in TC besides Ernie going -2 and Vince going up a bit. Preseason was fine but my best big on IR make it pretty worthless. Guess it is encouraging that the team performed decently with only 54 rpg and no Green. The leftover FA big I signed looked pretty good too so that's nice.
(the original michael ) - TC was solid. Not great. I wish my young guards got to B- inside. That’s my only gripe. But at the end of the day, as long as they score with high volume that’s all that matters!
6) Which team do you feel wins the East? Which wins the West? Who wins the title?
(Galo ) - Raptors will run the East for at least the next couple of seasons. Grizzlies, Spurs and Wolves all look good in the West – I think one of them takes it. I think Raps probably 3peat unless someone else like the Spurs add another piece.
(Braz ) - Gunning for the 3 peat I need to express confidence. I think I match up with the Kings in the finals if they get a top PG but if not probably the Wolves again.
(Stevie B ) - Out East ya gotta roll the Raptors. Out West, I'll roll with Eddy since he's been extremely sound in making improvements as the season rolls along. West/Bailey is tough. Raps are clearly the favorites as they vie for a 3-peat.
(autumn harold ) - Raps win the East. I think the Hawks are dangerous, but they’re going to have to put Darrell Tucker on Guy Rodgers, and I don’t like their bench. Not sure about the West. A lot of very good teams, but all have weaknesses. I really don’t think Rochelle-Smith-Hamilton can win three series. Kings are right there but don’t think Walt Hazzard and their FC are good enough. Wolves need to change that supporting cast. Warriors will never win with an inside offense. Spurs I love but not a Boozer fan and don’t think Sloan will cut it at SF. We don’t have the firepower, but we have the fewest weaknesses and the best defense. Suns are nice as hell but need to add the depth pieces to content. I really like that Mavs roster. Can’t talk myself into thinking it can contend but they’re really good. Gonna be a tough year. I think it comes down to midseason upgrades, with Grizz, Kings, and Spur having the best chance to get through if they make the right deals.
(2 years left ) - Until they lose you have to pick the Raptors. For the West, probably the Grizzlies. I haven't really looked at most teams though so maybe I'm missing somebody. Hopefully the playoffs are less boring than expected.
(the original michael ) - It’ll be the Raps again in the East. The Spurs probably in the West. Kings have a chance but I don’t think they can win with a rookie PG now. They could, but they are a stud Vet PG away from being nearly unbeatable. I know my buddy Eddy said he has big men but Frieberger and Sears aren’t it. He needs to add there if he wants to contend seriously.
7) Who is the most interesting prospect in this league?
(Galo ) - Probably Larry Jones. Came into the league as a SG and now the Kings have him at SF. Great player – we’ll see how the Kings use him, Paxson and Barnett this season.
(Braz ) - Interesting or best? I like Willis Reed as a knicks fan and top pick. Interesting is Oscar because he is supposedly the best player to some but Knicks sucked.
(Stevie B ) - Most interesting player is Buzz Bennett. As far as prospect goes, I guess I'll say Larry Jones! Has to be him!
(autumn harold ) - I guess Warren Sutton. Didn’t sim well but had a big TC and has 100 potential written all over him. I don’t see a lot of unknowns or really intriguing guys. I guess it’ll be interest to see what Bob Love becomes after all the talk about him this offseason, but then again I don’t care at all? Will be interesting to compare McCoy to the guys he got dealt for.
(2 years left ) - Making me do some research now ok. I guess Bob Love since it will be interesting if he can beat the odds and develop a strong outside game and become a great two-way player. McCoy as well to see if he can meet the high expectations placed on him, which I don't think he can. Still a good player tho!
(the original michael ) - Most interesting? Can you call McCoy a prospect anymore? Don’t think so. Probably someone like Love. Is he a wing? Is he a big? Will he develop? It’ll be fascinating to see how he develops.
8) Which player(s) are you looking forward to in upcoming drafts?
(Galo ) - Next cheat code level player to come out is Lew Alcindor aka Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in a few seasons. Still the NBA’s all time leading scorer after so many years. If you think Wilt had some aggressive stips, I wonder what KAJ gets.
(Braz ) - I just can not wait for the 80s!
(Stevie B ) - Think I was asked this question before, but the MJ draft is going to be wild.
(autumn harold ) - KAJ, Clyde, Tiny Archibald, Earl the Pearl, Wes Unseld. I haven’t thought about it much. I’m kind of ignoring the names in these classes until we get to 1980. Can’t wait til we get there.
(2 years left ) - Austin Carr. Campy Russell. World B Free. Think that about covers the 70s. Oh yeah Bingo Smith too. I'd actually like tanking for most of them. Wish I could have made the tOSU combo of Havlicek + Lucas but oh well.
(the original michael ) - Walt Clyde Frazier and Bill Bradley. Two greats.
9) What is your favorite NFL team and how have they been performing through 2 weeks of the season?
(Galo ) - It’s really whoever is on my fantasy football team honestly. I like the Chargers I guess but wouldn’t say I’m a diehard fun of theirs. They kind are second fiddle in LA to the Rams kinds of like the Clippers so I sympathize with their fan base. They lost to the Chief last week which was rough but at least they took out the Raiders on opening weekend.
(Braz ) - Eagles. Holy shit we are good.
(Stevie B ) - Eagles! 2-0 baby. Went to the game last night with amazing seats that were free. Hurts lookin' really good. Go Birds!
(autumn harold ) - Used to be a big Jets fan but have no interest in them. I’ve lived in Dallas and DC since then but both cities’ teams are gross. I still pay a solid amount of attention to the NFL but don’t have a team.
(2 years left ) - I think you know but ok. Defense is a mess and as of now I don't think the DC has been fired so that's not great. Brissett has actually been pretty good though which is encouraging. Need to be 6-5 when Deshaun comes back, maybe 5-6 is acceptable, but yeah, any worse and season is over. Don't really care how they get to those 6 wins so for now, not too bothered.
(the original michael ) - The Titans. I gave up on the season before it began. When they traded AJ Brown I knew it was the beginning of the rebuild and I’m good at disconnecting when I know the competing window is shut. They needed to rebuild. Hopefully this shit start kicks that off. Next year we can get rid of Tannehill, Lewan, Cunningham, Woods and most of the vets for minimal to no cap hat. They need to give the keys to Willis at some point this season and see if he’s worth trying to develop into a starter.
10) Which TV shows are you currently watching and how are they?
(Galo ) - We’re watching the new Game of Thrones – that’s probably the best show right now. I just watched first episode of season 4 for Atlanta on Hulu – another great show.
(Braz ) - Lord of The Rings. It's fantastic. I am so happy Uncle Jeff poured his heart and soul into this.
(Stevie B ) - I am watching House of Dragons. Loving it thus far. I am also about to start watching Cobra Kai season 5 after I finish the 2nd season of Ted Lasso.
(autumn harold ) - Industry. Kinda shit but it has its moments and I’m not gonna stop watching. Love Succession and Severance but they’re in between seasons.
(2 years left ) - House of the Dragon is the main one I'm watching weekly. It's pretty good. Never really got into Game of Thrones, finally binged it during pandemic, and it was ok. Think this is better so far but who knows. Also watching She-Hulk and not really sure why. Pretty close to giving up on Disney+ honestly. New Lord of the Rings show was painful to watch the first two episodes and never went back. Just boring and the hobbit characters are bad. Welcome to Wrexham is decent. Can tell Ryan regrets doing it though.
(the original michael ) - Love is Blind w the wife and House of Dragon. Both great shows in their own rights.
I spoke to Spencer and he said he will make a one-time exception and let me get AC.
