RT W THE FELLAS
1. Farty appears to have scrammed on the new GM, stool. It looked like we were finally going to see w Wilt trade but nope! What are your thoughts on the initial deal and what happened afterward?
Andy - I thought it was a fairly easy fix but I get not really trying to make it work on a rush. I do think it will be fixed as the Nets could for sure use a Wilt. Nets likely would be better off without getting Cousy in the deal and I think that will be the big fix coming from it.
Harold - I think they’ll get a deal done. I’d be happy to get Bing and Gail for Wilt. He’s the best player in the league, but his stip makes building around him a chore, so it’s gonna hurt his value. Loved the rebuilding move for Stool.
Steve - Excellent deal for Stool, but Wilt is an automatic reset so I get it from that end as well. I’m thinking it’ll get done eventually? Never know with Mr. Period.
Greeme - great for gsw. Cousy has no value and Davis minimal value. Bing will be a stud. Gail will be good and Lee solid. That gets him 3 starters including a stud going into his tank. From Marty's perspective it wouldn't leave him flexibility to build a team. But wilt might well be enough by himself. In any case, the deal was way too messed up capwise.
2. We’ve seen a lot of GMs leave lately. It’s very unfortunate. My brother Eddy will be missed. I hope he returns soon. Who would you guys like to see make a return the most? Which GM here would you like to see vanish and never come back?
Andy - CC would've been one but he's back now. Eddy for sure I hope he returns one day. Cheat Code Mark would be a very welcomed return for sure. As far as vanish, idk. I don't dislike any current GM's for that.
Harold - I feel like we haven’t had that many guys leave, and everyone comes back. We have a good core here and the vibes are quality lately. When guys leave, I mainly see it as them taking a few seasons off. Many of us have done it. Would be nice if my NC pals came back obv.
Steve - I’ll miss Eddy, but I know he’ll eventually come back when things hopefully turn for the better. League is fine. Seems like everyone comes back eventually!
Greeme -it is time for aar to return. He hasn't been back in years a good guy and great gm. Or vice versa. Marty is not a pleasant person on the boards. It may be partially an act but it is annoying seeing him complain all the time.
3. We have some sleeper teams out there in my opinion after some major off-season moves. Which teams have improved the most in the offseason?
Andy - The Nuggets. They will easily be a playoff team. The Nuggets will also be the team that gets to lose to the Spurs in the WCF. Saying it now.
Harold - Hmmm. Nuggets look good! They got much better. Bucks should be in the mix for the playoffs after adding Bellamy. Jazz made nice improvements. Feels like more teams got worse though. Knicks went for the rebuild. Grizz lost Gus. Suns lost Gola. Spurs lost Newt, though they should still win 60+. Wiz losing Ricketts is gonna hurt. Didn’t like the Nelson move for the Sixers. Rockets unloaded Rochelle. Etc.
Steve - Honestly haven’t paid nearly the amount of attention needed for this question, but I thought you fleeced the shit out of Game. Feels like a good bit of my Western conference counterparts got worse which is certainly a good sign for me.
Greeme -nets brought in Bing, Gola and clyde Lee all of whom should start. Gola may be the worst contract in the league but still an improvement over cruse. He needs some moves though.
The Jazz had a nice draft and brought newt home.
4. How can we get better and more efficient at making sure FA bids are in on time League wide? Should Spencer set a deadline for each FA sim to have bids in?
Andy - I think a deadline should be set for sure. I get Spencer wants everyone to be in and I respect it but we all know what it is. If we want a hard deadline, maybe 6-12 hours after draft, FA will be simmed? Obviously would depend on if Spencer is off or whatever but I don't see why we are still waiting on dudes.
Harold - Yeah, I think once we set the expectation that FA Day 1 occurs the night the draft ends, everyone will know to get their bids in. Just a matter of setting the precedent.
Steve - It’s fine. I mean, yes, it would be nice if we could fly through this part, but it seems like it’s a 3 day thing, and then we’re moving onto TC and PRE sims. For instance…I had no idea Spence was off, or I would’ve made it a point to get my bids in earlier.
Greeme - I think we are fine as is but a schedule would be useful also. Maybe 8 hours after the end of the draft for fa 1. If we do that a mass PM should be sent out by the draft mods announcing the time for fa 1
5. Following up the FA talk, which signing from Day 1 surprised you the most?
Andy - Gola. I did want him but a 6 yr max is a lot. I mean he'll be a big help for sure but that's going to be an annoying deal for sure. Sonics getting Ricketts is wild. I don’t really get how or why break let him go for that deal. He had plenty of room under the HC.
Harold - Pretty quiet day. Another bad FA. The Gola deal is much bigger than I expected he’d get. Great player but six years with significant increases is gonna get rough.
Steve - So many rough deals, and just ones that didn’t make a ton of sense to me based off a quick glance. But that’s FA for ya!
Greeme -tom Gola. He has been going down quickly. I could see Marty one year maxing him because he is in cy but more than 1 year is overkill. Paying him 25 mil at age 38is painful to even think about.
6. Hypothetical - Your life is on the line. You can send one PM to one GM and they must respond within 30 minutes. Who is that GM? On the flip side, who is the one GM you would NOT PM?
Andy –Skillz tends to respond right away so him. Habes as well. Outlawz would be the one I wouldn’t. I don’t think he’s made a pick or FA move this offseason.
Harold - Skillz. He and I exchange morning PMs like six out of 12 days each season. I feel like most of the guys who don’t answer PMs are gone. Matt, John, Beastly come to mind. Think everyone here is solid about responding, but I wouldn’t expect a quick response from JAH, George, or Outlawz.
Steve - Eddy when he was here. You are also quite good at getting back to me as well. As far as the other question, I’ll say Chip. He’s so hit or miss. Having Outlawz number eliminates him from contention now, lol
Greeme -habes or skillz. They are both on often and respond quickly. I wouldn't PM Marty. He rarely answers
7. Self Evaluation time. Give an honest review of your last few seasons. How do you think you’ve done? Which moves were the best/worst?
Andy – I’m washed. Let’s move on. I don’t really hate anything I’ve done. I just haven’t really done anything worthwhile. Even moving KC and Pettit seemed like a fart in the wind. Also, work has been god awful for me so I’ve been here and then away a bit more.
Harold - I’m GMing like shit these days. Came away from a rebuild with Mike Mendenhall and Darrall Imhoff as my top picks and just held on for too long without throwing in the towel. Managed to make the CF twice in that span, but overall I’ve been running also-rans.
Steve - I loved my offseason from a couple seasons ago, but this past TC really didn’t go the way I wanted it to go. I’ve stayed the course, and hope I get rewarded for it. Honestly our title contention window hinges on big TCs from my youth (Barnes, LJ, and Hazzard).
Greeme -just kind of skated through the 2 previous years. Drafting thorn worked out trading gus for ellis and Smith was nice also. Team was a third big away last year but I would really like to just tear down the team. I won't do so at any price though so I guess the rebuild will wait another year.
8. Talk to me about my buddy Red Robbins. What would you do with him? Develop him as a big? A wing? How would you camp him?
Andy – He’s Jim Foxish. He’s a SF. I would let him get a TC in and see what his numbers are. I assume your tanking. Let the season play out and then camp him out at the end of the year. That's what I did with Fox.
Harold - He’s a wing. If you make him a big, he’ll lose his rebounding advantage and he won’t take enough threes. Wings who combine volume (esp threes) and elite rebounds are so valuable. Love him, but I love him less than I love trading.
Steve - He’s a wing after a quick look. You turn him into a big and you’re most likely fucked. Looks like an interesting player, but didn’t dive into any notes this year.
Greeme - trade him? No blocks means sf.on the other hand, C+ d and good post d probably means his per d isn't good. So he looks like a tweener. I would probably try to develop him at sf. +8 stls, + 9 jump shot, + 3 inside, +5 3pt shot.
