1. How’s your offseason going? What are your plans for next season?
Sargo: Awesome. Just as planned. Once I found out Walt Frazier was in the draft I knew I had to have him. He’s the guy I wanted to build around. A good rebounding, defensive and scoring PG. I just hope his TOs aren’t wild. Also love the addition of Red Robbins. If his scoring develops, can he be a Jack T? If not, he’ll be a solid bench piece. Risky move, but that’s why I’m here. I’m just looking to rank next season and add another piece next to Walt and Redd.
Andy: Going fine I guess. Dukes retiring and getting Walt has been a good start. Working on trying to make the playoffs next season while maintaining a solid young core. We'll see how that goes.
Greeme: Meh. Team is kind of stuck. I want to rebuild but i don't want to give away players. I have too many guys that I value more than other people. I don't think that i will resign Tom so we will be worse but we can still make the playoffs.
Rex: Chet is back in the Red & Black!! Along with Barnett I’m hoping to get back in the mix. I think I need one more good draft then I’ll start competing with the Homegrown talent the following season but this upcoming season is the development stage
2. Marty has a stud PG and a nice backup combo guard in Gail. He has significant cap, but he also has needs everywhere else. Recommend a trade that will help him reset.
Sargo: Marty should go after the Clippers players. Ellis/Gambee would be nice gets. Just deal Greeme some juicy picks for them and be on your way.
Andy: Hard to say. Marty needs a lot. I wouldn't move Bing at all but that would limit the moves available for Marty. He needs to hope for at least one big FA signing and then move Gail to fill in whatever other holes remain.
Greene: both his players and exps for my team. we won 54 and he can use his cap beforehand.
Rex: He almost had Wilt but somebody didn’t check the salary. If he’s really serious he should try to rework that deal with Golden State and he’ll reset with no problem.
3. Clyde went #1 in the draft, likely because Andy and Mike had a deal lined up if he was available. Seems like most people had Lou Hudson or Dave Bing as the best prospect in the class. What would you have done with #1 if you were Andy?
Sargo: Well, Hi. I’m Mike. I had deals lined up before the draft with 3-4 GMs in the lottery. Bing and Hudson are probably better, but I am a homer. I wanted Frazier, badly. Most GMs probably would have gone a different direction.
Andy: I considered keeping 1 and just going with Lou to be honest but decided to make the trade. I think we had discussed the deal around midseason though I'm sure I wasn't the only one.
Greeme: Bad move imo. I would have at least tried to move down to 3. Bing and lou hudson are much better than clyde i think so i think he could have gotten something to do that and then done the same deal. on the other hand the deal in a vacuum clyde for bellamy is a good deal. wali is also worth more than the wiz pick. I think that he could have gotten a little more but it is fine.
Rex: That trade was probably going to happen with any GM that had the number one pick. Clyde was becoming a Knick one way or another. Sargo was going to figure out a way to get it done. It’s like it was meant to be. Like he was a Knick in real life or something. 🤔🤔
4. The Raps have won four straight championships and have gone 16-4 in the finals during this run. Is this the best team in league history?
Sargo: Has to be, right? Major props to Braz. He’s done a tremendous job. He’s extended his window a few times as well (good job ahsan). I hope he keeps the team together. Interested to see how many he can win in a row.
Andy: Kinda has to be, right? Winning 4 in a row puts you in a place no other team has ever been in. That's pretty impressive. The crazy thing is the Raps can easily win one or two more.
Greeme: I don't think so, I think that the heat had a better team but it certainly is one of the best teams that we have seen.
Rex: I haven't been with BBS for too long like some of you guys have but is this even a debate? Has any team ever won 4 straight titles which is tough to do. Do I dare say the G. O. A. T. GM?
5. Outside of the top five, what was your favorite pick in this draft?
Sargo: Obviously Red Robbins. Despite his fantastic name, love his rebounds. He’s going to be a SF. Sending his ass to TC through C in an effort to improve his boards, inside and strength even more. All those camps will go to his scoring.
Andy: Donnie Freeman looks like an interesting player, especially where he was picked. Jazz appeared to have a nice overall draft.
Greeme: It should be pretty obvious given my comments in the thread. Keith Thomas looks very good imo and had great notes. Only question is his volume but even wo volume he looks to be a good 5th starter at least.
Rex: Red Robbins. Can score from all levels. Can rebound well with decent strength and steals. Wouldn’t have made sense to draft at 5 but definitely wanted him to drop to 12 but Utah stole him from me.
6. Buzz Bennett is on the block, and he doesn’t seem to be drawing much interest. His offense was gross last year, but he’s still in his prime, and his contract is reasonable. What’s he worth at this point? A great prospect, or something more alone the lines of a decent picks package and expirings?
Sargo: The trade market is tough when trying to trade a stud, especially an aging one. He’s probably worth a few picks and a solid prospect. Marty should make a pick package for him as well.
Greeme: I'm not really sure what you are looking at. His offense was fine but his contract is rough. very hard to move a 31 yr old on a 20 mil contract. He is ideally your 3rd best player on a good team. How much could i move for that? I would need the exps to match and those would have to be expirings that i could move without killing my depth or cap space in the next couple years. You put all of that together and i have a hard time moving a great prospect. maybe a pick in the 10-13 range. Maybe a bunch of late picks which people value for reasons that escape me. Maybe 2 players who are not as good but are younger and half the price.
Habes: I’ve only been back for about a season in a half so I don’t even know what team Buzz plays for. If he’s not playing like a stud it’s no way someone could get a great prospect for him unless Nets get desperate but even that the Nets can get a better player. Wherever Buzz Bennett is that GM is out of luck.
7. Pick one player each: most underrated and most overrated player in the league.
Sargo: Most overrated: Sorry Steve, but Vince Cohen. He sucks. A Pg with near 4TOPG. I guess I’m talking about future Walt here but ehhhh. No thanks.
Most underrated: Gerald Govan. Love this man. JR got a good player for my pick. No one talks about him, but he has elite jump shot, rebounds, low handles, around 2 stocks.
Andy: Underrated: Johnny Egan. Not really my type of PG but he's not a player mentioned when you talk about those high scoring PG's.
Overrated: Richie Guerin. I feel like for a player of his ratings, he hasn't really ever been the man. Maybe just a season where he was the top 2 guard.
Greeme: how can i pick one? all my players are the most underrated. Probably barnhill. great contract and can start for at least half the teams in the league. he isn't a big volume guy but has no major holes such as d or tos or rebounding. Most overrated is Archie Clark maybe. Not sure if people really value him but he was picked 6th last year so i guess they do. Solid player. probably going to be a passable backup but i don't think he will ever be a starter on a good team. Who knows though with pg tcs
Rex: Tbh. I don’t even know. Like I said above I haven’t been back in the league long enough to answer this. Sorry.
8. Should post pad requirements differ for mods? Sargo: For example, should they need to have 2x as many posts as non-mods?
Sargo: Maybe just make a separate forum/thread where everyone is a mod and can spam. Solves everything.
Andy: Yeah I guess. I know we did it for one post pad where mods had to do more then non mods. I don't think its a huge deal either way because usually we get days/weeks to finish these things.
Greeme: I mean they can post 10 times as much. or realistically 7-8 times as much. on the other hand it only really helps in pps or if they spam the counting thread. It just seems unfair that they can post 40-50 times a minute and other people can only post 5-6 times. maybe shut off the admin powers when they aren't needed and say they can't spam when the admin powers are on? idk how many admins there are but i feel that most are draft admins. is there a possiblity of giving admin powers only for certain threads? that would also be a solution. then powers wouldn't have to be turned off and they just wouldn't be allowed to spam those threads.
Rex: I think there’s a quick solution. I say it every PP “I hate that 10 second post thing.” Which makes it a little annoying and messes with my flow of posting. If possible every GM should have that 10 second restriction taken away that way everyone can post without any interruptions.
9. Who says no? Nuggets send: Bill Russell. Clippers send: Rod Thorn + Leroy Ellis.
Sargo: I like this. I think both say no though. Greeme wants to rebuild. Royal has no idea what he wants to do.
Andy: I think Nuggets. royal likely feels it'll be easier to build a playoff contender with Bill then Thorn/Ellis.
Greeme: good question. i would have done it last year bc i think that would at least put us in the finals. Maybe even this year if there are no tc changes but losing tom will obv hurt. I will say that ellis is one of the most underrated players in the league (i know, shocking that i think so). He actually led the league in ft% and his fg% was much improved. Still obv bill is much better given stocks and boards. Is that worth losing 6 years and 5 mil per? probably so but i think the add of rod thorn is too much especially bc even with bill we won't be able to win the west. A three was deal in which i get a stud rook soph would interest me more and then i would just rebuild. or ellis, barnhill and gambee or rambo (did i mention that gambee and rambo are massively underrated?)
Rex: Nuggets. No way I see Royal trading Bill for that. Clippers would have to add but what do I know I ain’t got a championship.
10. Tell me a trade in this version you wish you could have back.
Sargo: That initial Steve Nash trade with Skillz. I think it was my first major trade and I dealt him for Sprewell and GRob IRRC. Bad deal.
Andy: My LeBron trade to the Knicks was ass.
Greeme: probably guy for whoever i got. i just let myself get trolled into moving him bc everybody said i got him for free. never listen to anybody. obv no guarantee how he would have turned out but still would be nice to have. i think the sam jones trade was fine. i ended up with thorn, ellis and dwayne smith for him. still hate him for getting injured and sucking in the playoffs.
Rex: I should have kept Cyril when my team started hot and went 11-0 that first sim. I don’t remember which season but I think it was a trade with the Cavs when I acquired Eddie Miller. That trade changed my season trajectory and we were never the same. 😢😢
