BBS20 GM Waiting List Carousel/Retirement Home (Pt. 1)
When it comes to new GMs, often times we never know who Spencer will bring back until it’s announced. And, now with the waiting list at its driest point possibly since BBS20’s inception, we’ll take a look at the best list of prospective GMs that could potentially fill the next opening or two. We’ll group these potential retread guys together into a realistic prospect or permanent retiree bucket. *Part 1 features most recent and/or most active GMs.
@kwisatzhaderach (John)
Former San Antonio Spurs & Golden State Warriors GM
BBS20 Resume – (1,033 Wins / 970 Losses) 1 Finals Appearance (maybe 2 unless Game had one in SA)
Analysis – (*Ed’s note: John was named Lakers GM earlier this morning but then rescinded once Outlawz was reinstated – This article was written before the news dropped). When you rank weird exits, John is up there with Lums and Brian. The man completely disappeared after the Suns lost in the Finals to Giannis and the Bucks and we didn’t hear from him again for at least 20 seasons – we even wondered if the man was okay. Then he came back to the reins of the Warriors and landed Wilt who led to them his best reign as GM yet. Then, his mother got sick and passed on (RIP) and we still see him on here and there when he can. I personally hope he comes back when he’s ready to and I think he will as most would love to have him back if he wants to be here.
Possibility? – Very Realistic Prospect
Orlando Magic Johnson (Dan)
Former Portland Trail Blazers GM
BBS20 Resume (1802 Wins / 1978 Losses) – 29 Playoffs, 1 Finals Appearance
Analysis – Well regarded and liked throughout the league, Dan would very much be welcomed back by Spencer and most GMs in the league. Not only does Dan work for the NY Yankees but he hasn’t let his success, job (YES network), or two Emmys go to his head. We won’t even mention the Yankees still haven’t won a World Series since Dan joined in 2019 but that’s getting off topic. The point is we would want Dan back and I’m sure the last remaining NC crew members, Habes and Andrew would also want him back to bring some life into their group text.
Possibility? – Realistic Prospect
Nanz (Fernando)
Former LA Lakers GM
BBS20 Resume (1841 Wins / 1938 Losses) – 23 Playoffs, 3 Finals, 2 Championships
Analysis – Fernando left us with blue balls after dropping twins into this world. Couldn’t be more happy for the man starting his family and leaving this simulation that has a hold on everyone else. But, it’s inevitable as every family man can attest to – he will come back. It’s just a matter of when – not a matter of if (when things settle down of course). Nanz was a top tier GM while he was here – made the playoffs about half the time along with 3 finals and 2 chips – and also like Dan, another NC crew member.
Possibility? – Realistic Prospect
Von (Pig)
Former New Orleans Hornets GM
BBS20 Resume (1770 Wins / 1597 Losses) – 28 Playoffs, 4 Finals, 3 Championships
Analysis – Ah Pig. One of my personal favorite GMs here mostly because he was a hilarious dude. Also was a hell of a GM too. Three championships in three different decades. Always had a unique perspective on players and performance. Advised Lums not to resign Naulls to a max offer despite most the league saying he deserved it and it paid off in the long run. I also still have a theory that the SG rule (aka the Elgin Baylor rule) which is what broke the camel’s back and led to his exit. Or maybe not – but I could see him coming back under the right circumstances or the next pandemic, whichever comes first.
Possibility? – Permanent Retiree
Lumley316 (Lumley)
Former Magic GM, Warriors GM, Sixers and Hornets GM along with countless Assistant roles
BBS Resume per Skillz (1318 Wins / 1552 Losses), 1 or 2 Finals Appearances
Analysis – Lums left us in the strangest way ever (well next to Brian’s peace line bbs2020.proboards.com/thread/6797/celtic-gm-resigns) but didn’t make much sense (If you need a recap of Lums first tenure with the Magic, Andy does a great job on this piece bbs2020.proboards.com/thread/4112/30-magic-orlando). It seemed like he took the double standard route when it came to special time that others got to draft versus how much time he had then decided not to send a list and ghost the entire draft. When it came time for him to pick, yours truly texted the man a few times but to no response just to make sure his point was made – real nice, Lums. Now, he’s finally showing activity and posting again but doesn’t look like he serious about coming back anytime soon. Let’s just put him as realistic though to be fair.
Possibility? – Realistic Prospect with a splash of retirement on his breath
Mark (Mark)
Former Seattle Sonics GM & Orlando Magic GM
BBS20 Resume (538 Wins / 446 Losses) 7 Finals Appearances, 2 Championships
Analysis – I never got a chance to blast off with Mark and get some chicken sandwiches after which upsets me but his BBS20 track record is one to remember. He took over the Sonics which was laughingstock in the beginning of BBS and turned them into a perennial winner with 5 finals appearances and 2 titles. Mark seems to be a company man and doesn’t have full time for our shenanigans anymore but he’ll stop by time to time just to give us shit and we love him for it. But to be honest I only see him teasing us but not coming back.
Possibility?- Permanent Retiree
Zeke (Beastly)
Former Dallas Mavericks & Boston Celtics GM
BBS20 Resume (814 Wins / 949 Losses) 1 Finals, 1 Championship
Analysis – Beastly came in hot on the Hue Crew’s coattails then quickly fizzled. He admittingly came into just wanting to troll then realized that didn’t lead to wins and he actually had to GM decently in order to stay in the league. He put together a title team in 2031 and somehow won it all with Lavender Gooms being the second option behind Jordan Poole and Red Rocha. In his second tenure, he took over the Celtics for Zev and Break who was CYed, he lasted 5 seasons then disappeared halfway through his CY seasons kind of like the last time during his Mavs run except this time he landed on the unlucky number of 41 and didn’t make the playoffs. Somehow, I still think he’ll pop back up one day whenever he resurfaces and put his name on the WL.
Possibility? – Realistic Prospect
mattfaria12 (Matt)
Former Seattle Sonics GM
BBS20 Resume (311 Wins / 509 Losses)
Analysis – Sometimes I forget Matt lasted 10 years in BBS which is actually kind of impressive given his tenure. He got more ridicule than anyone not named Lums and that’s saying something. I think his drafts were the most perplexing where he would have a multitude of 2nd round picks and 1st round picks then later not have enough roster spots to pick all these players. Strange stuff. Then CY came around and he actually won less games than the season before. Seemed like a decent guy and not very active but not sure if he could hang with the personalities here long term. Although, I could see him on the WL if we hit real ‘dire straits’.
Possibility? – Permanent Retiree
