Alright! I finally get time to post this roundtable- this was sent out on Friday I believe, and two GMs got this back into me super quickly, and one took his time but it's ok! We're all on the same page now!
1. What are your thoughts on your team so far at this early stage of the season?
Galo- It’s year one of rebuilding so it’s been horrible so far. But hope is on the horizon with the 04 draft coming up. We’ve got some decent young pieces and a couple of above average players in Artest and K-Mart but we’ll see how everything pans out.
Stevie F- 15 games in we are 8-7 with basically a 1.5 point differential...we just encountered a rough sim, but I’m experimenting with different DCs. I’ve personally never been a fan of the whole slow-pace/inside-focus approach even though I have those pieces in place to make it work at a high level. I think it takes away from a talented scorer like Francis if I go that route. In the next sim, I will focus Francis more in an outside approach. I think even Jamison is not getting the ideal volume through the inside approach either. Either way, it’s early...I think the bigger issue is my depth. It’s not good enough after the starting 5. The real positive out of this team is we dominate the glass…+7 rebounding differential is incredible stuff and should continue as we improve our depth. East is tough!
Break- I was hoping to be a little more above .500, but being above .500 at all is good enough for me this year. I'm just hoping to sneak into the playoffs to see a little postseason action.
Chipper- I love where I’m at right now, honestly. We're playing better since that disaster of a sim 1 DC that truly may have cost me resetting CY. I can do so many different things from where I’m at. I’d love to make a run at the playoffs or 42 wins to get the CY reset a year early and TOTALLY give me flexibility. But we’ll see how that ends up.

2. Has any player or team surprised you with their early form this season? For purposes of this Roundtable- the player or team has to be in the opposite conference from you.
Galo- I’m a little surprised the Spurs have started 4-4 to start the season. They have a great team on paper and T-Mac is supposed to be a superstar. I think they’ll figure it out but it’s a little different than where I thought they would be. I like cheap and efficient players and George Lynch who the Clippers signed with the LLE was a fantastic under the radar pickup. At 33, he’s grabbing double digit rebounds and getting blocks which for a role player is a really healthy return.
Stevie F- Not particularly surprising in the fact that I thought he wouldn’t be good...but it’s HOW good Caron Butler has been this season. Obviously T’Wolves are lacking talent at this stage, but even still...Caron Butler has been truly superb. The only thing I would want him too really improve on is his turnover issue, but otherwise he is a sensational piece for Jeb and Lums moving forward.
Break- Dirk has had a surprising resurgence this year with the Lakers. Passed on him several times as part of a Kobe deal but some of those deals look a little better now.
Chipper- The Kings and Lakers have been steamrolling through opponents- but that’s not surprising when you consider the GMs and the rosters they have. I AM surprised a little at Dallas- I thought they’d be lower down but they’ve done alright so far.

3. What US city have you been to that you absolutely HATED and why?
Galo- This is a tough one. I guess Cincinnati has to be the choice for me. My company’s parent group is headquartered there and I’ve been there a few times and it’s not a very happening place and the food wasn’t great there. Apparently, they are known for their chili (Skyline?) but I’m not a fan of this place.
Stevie F- I’ve been to San Fran, San Diego, Toronto, Chicago, and Philly. Loved them all. I’ve been to Pittsburgh, but we only stopped there for a night on our way back home from Chicago...so can’t really judge that experience fairly. Yeah, I think I’ve been blessed with the opportunity of going to some awesome cities and have really really enjoyed my time in each one of them.
Break- Atlanta, went there for a week and had more shootings within 500 yards of me in that week than the rest of my life combined. I was eating taco bell at the CNN center and some crazy guy with a gun ran through being chased by cops. He got shot in the park across the way.
Chipper- I was going to say Philadelphia, but now I’m just going to say wherever Break is. Can’t diss my city like that!

4. Which GM is the most frustrating to talk trade with? You could alternatively answer with which GM do you enjoy talking trade with the most if you don’t want to call anyone out.
Galo- I think everyone knows who’s difficult to talk shop with so no need to air them out. I like chatting with deals with JR and Pig recently. They always seem to know what they want and are pretty straightforward in their direction. I’m not a fan of a ton of back and forth negotiating so it makes it easier when everyone knows what they want.
Stevie F- I genuinely haven’t had an issue with really anybody. I think Sargo can be tough at times...but I don’t constitute that as being a bad thing. Obviously the whole Break/Footy thing is terrible...at least it was in the first few seasons. Just an annoying process...but otherwise? I really feel like I’ve had good talks with most GMs, and something isn’t there I just inform them of that. I think that’s part of the reason I don’t get too frustrated. If a deal isn’t there, then it isn’t there. No point in trying to force that issue. 13Rock can be annoying for the pure fact that he just isn’t good at responding back to you.
Break- Frustrating: Skillz will keep coming with the offers long after you've made it clear you aren't interested lol, otherwise he's fine. Enjoy: The saga of the DEN 04 pick was fun. Covid is a tough cookie to talk trade with, but not frustrating.
Chipper- Nobody has really frustrated me per se. Every GM has their own quirk about how to go about doing a deal. Svedda is very short and to the point and knows what he wants. He doesn’t give you any BS, and I appreciate that. Skillz is very persistent and that’s a good trait to have- it’s why he won last season.

5. Everyone has been asking this in their RTs, but here goes- which of the 3 teams that are CY this season make it or don’t and why?
Galo- This is tough. It’s not looking good for the Sonics and Hawks at the moment. I think the Sonics have a better shot because they have Shaq and partial because we’re HS friends but the West is really tough this year so it won’t be easy. The Hawks are in a hole that I’m not sure Big Dog can take them out of and dealing his last couple assets for him could be risky. Magic should be fine barring any major injuries.
Stevie F- Hawks and Sonics don’t make it. Magic will make it.
Sonics-I feel like 13Rock has made poor decisions and the trade for Gary Payton doesn’t change much for me. Payton REGRESSED mightily. He sucks now. Luckily the West isn’t as strong as the East, but man...it’s not looking good and I don’t trust 13Rock to put together a good DC at this stage.
Hawks- Styro has 2 studs and nothing else. It’s looking pretty bleak for him, too. In the East I don’t think you can recover from a start like this even if it’s early. It’ll take some serious manaverung to pull it off.
Magic- The Magic are currently in the playoffs, but the East is tough. I think Kobe/Camby is enough, but as you can see Shard isn’t good. Plus they are playing Cassell over Barbosa. Like after the 1st sim, he should’ve flipped Barbosa for Cassell. Cassell is terrible. I think the Magic should make it, but nothing is guaranteed with Break at the helm.
Break- Magic are the only ones that seem likely. Sonics are second most likely. I think the Hawks are completely fucked. I don't think he cares too much though.
Chipper- I think the Magic make it, and I think the Hawks and Sonics both barely miss out. I will say it wouldn’t surprise me if they started playing better after some of the moves they’ve been making- but they have a big hill to climb.

6. Give me one player in the league that has not been AC’d or RC’d yet that you think should and why.
Galo- Another tough one chip! I’ll go biased right now and say James Jones. Great shooter and looks to be a good defender. I plan to RC him and see what his offense is like.
Stevie F- SMH @ this question. Anyway, I’m not going to lie, I was pressed for time so I just found a guy that hasn’t been ACd yet...but I think Jason Richardson could be really nice once you pump those ACs into him. He’s already been fully RCd, but man...J Rich can score the ball at a decent clip...just needs to refine his rebounding and stealing abilities.
Break- Mike Dunleavy on the Hawks could be a good player with some camps put into him. If he turns out B-/A-/C/B-/C in a few years that's a decent SF
Chipper- Let’s go with Kareem Rush- although 13rock may be hesitant to use any camps on him since he doesn’t own his birds after next season. But that dude looks like a 2nd round steal ratings-wise. If he starts scoring more he’s going to be a beast with that A Outside shooting.

7. During non-pandemic times- what’s your go-to hotel chain?
Galo- Marriott no doubt. I used to be an elite gold member for a while when I was traveling all CA and AZ. They have the best properties and price I think out here. Hiltons are probably better out in the East coast based on the ones I’ve stayed over there versus the ones I’ve stayed here have been dumps!
Stevie F- Haven’t traveled in a longggggggggg time, but I wouldn’t say it was my go to...but we typically would do hostels because they were incredibly cheap and we rarely were even in those rooms anyway. $25/night? Count me in. We also have done Air BnBs a bunch of times, and typically find good price ranges for that as well.
Break- I'm a poor boy so we just look for whatever deal we can get. Marriott is usually nice enough for us!
Chipper- I work for Hilton so I get that Family and Friends Discount and Team Member Discount so TAKE THAT. And no, I can’t add you to my Family and Friends Discounts- I have no openings on the list. So don’t ask.

8. Alright- gotta ask about my team- the Bucks What DC would you run if you were me? You don’t have to do full settings obviously- but just a breakdown of starters and maybe a line as to why for each would be good.
Galo- Milos/Maggz/Boozer/Marion/Hunter with SAR/Kaman/Amin off the bench. You should outrebound most those teams with that lineup and get more blocks. Then you need to go balanced/fast maybe and keep trapping/pressing. *editor’s note- Galo’s responses were made before I traded Shareef*
Stevie F- Options:
1. Corey Maggette
2. Shawn Marion
3. El-Amin or Milos
Pace: Fast
Trap: Never
Press: Never
Focus: Outside
I’ll be honest I don’t like this roster at all. I do like some of the pieces, but this doesn’t fit in the least bit. I came up with this DC, and I hate it tbh. I don’t like the PG situation. El-Amin and Milos turn it over and don’t get enough steals. Both guys aren’t scorers, and I don’t think Boozer is good enough to be an option in an outside focus look. I think I agree with everybody that Marion shouldn’t be an option...but on this roster how can you not make him an option? Maggette being a top option isn’t desirable if we are being honest and thus there really isn’t a guy on this roster I feel comfortable making the top option. I think Kaman at Center and Hunter being the primary backup big is perfectly fine. Boozer still probably isn’t ready to carry the load, though. *editor’s note- Stevie F’s responses were also made before I traded Shareef*
Break- I'd start: C Steven Hunter: Good defense and his rebounding isn't the worst. PF: Shawn Marion: This one is obvious for obvious reason! SF: Maggette: Good defense while having great shooting is nice. Seems a little small for SF to me though. I'd rather play him at SG if I could. SG: Eddie Jones: Best scoring option out of your guards. PG: El-Amin: Handles the ball well and can shoot some too.
Chipper- I feel a bit odd answering my own question about my own team- so I’ll just say that with where my team is at now- I feel I have a lot of flexibility to try different players at different positions, and that’s a good feeling.

9. Do you feel it’s important to “WIN” each trade you make and why?
Galo- Not necessarily but you should probably win more trades than you lose in the long run because then you’re just losing value. If you’re rebuilding, you’re usually not getting equal return for your stud pieces unless you get lucky or the prospects you get develop into stars. But you can lose a trade and keep getting better overall. Most GMs can overcome a couple trades they lose except in CY.
Stevie F- No. I’ve overpaid in my other league because it was a guy that would put me over the top or it was a piece that I needed and that’s what the market dictates. I don’t think you need to win every trade, and often with me...you’ll see me in quite a few deals that are pretty fair value wise.
Break- No, I like trades where both parties feel good about the end result. Winning a trade is great but I like winning because things went your way, not because you ripped someone off.
Chipper- No- if both teams feel good about what they got in the trade, it’s fine. Hell, I love to make trades and sometimes I make trades just to make a trade. It’s almost impossible to always win a trade, there are going to be times where you get screwed by FBB in the endgame and it just happens. Nothing you can really do.

10. Who was better in real life- Yao or Dwight? And why?
Galo- Dwight was a beast man. He carried a whole team on his back to the Finals against the Lakers. His offensive game wasn’t very polished but he dominated down low so much with his defense and strength plus rebounding that it didn’t matter. Yao was really good too but I don’t think he got as far as the Magic and he had more talent around him arguably.
Stevie F- Dwight had the better career obviously, and Yao had the better peak I think. I do think Dwight Howard’s defensive abilities give him the upper hand...but then you look at head to head and Yao destroyed him so I don’t know. I feel like Yao was head and shoulders a way better offensive talent whereas Dwight was significantly better on the defensive end. I personally can’t stand Dwight Howard, though. He’s just a big baby.
Break- Dwight. I didn't watch much Yao so I'm biased.
Chipper- I actually went back and forth on this a lot- I was all Yao the other night, but Dwight really was amazing defensively. It doesn’t help that Yao’s body betrayed him either. I think Yao had the better peak, as others have said, but Dwight had the longer run, essentially. But I do think that Dwight benefited from playing in the East, whereas Yao had to go through the gauntlet of the Western teams, which wasn't his fault.

11. Ok- make the calls- who wins the title this season in BBS? And what team gets the #1 pick?
Galo- Right now, I think it’s between the Lakers and Kings I think – whoever wins in the WCF wins it all over maybe over the Raptors or Sixers? I don’t know it’s too tight in the East. I think they’ll be separation sooner rather than later. I don’t want to jinx myself but hope we’re in the running for top pick. Otherwise, this rebuilding part sucks. They’ll be others vying for it though.
Stevie F- I think the Lakers win the whole thing. Incredible fire power. Kings vs. Lakers in the WCF should be outstanding if we are lucky to witness it. Grizz get the first pick so Erbes can take Dwight Howard and get the inside focused offense going again!
Break- I think the Lakers are a good pick this year. That team is rolling! #1 pick is probably the Grizzlies because Erbes has put his whole being into losing this year
Chipper- I don’t like betting against ashes ever, so I’ll say the Kings. Would not be surprised though if the Lakers made it there, though. I do think the champ comes out of the West. And in terms of #1 pick- I’ll go with the Bulls- they are going to tank the shit out of this correctly.

12. Ask me anything!
Galo- What’s with the name chipper? Is that self imposed name or childhood nickname? Are you always in a chipper mood? Does the nickname chipper the stripper hold any weight??
My response- I gave myself the nickname- Chipper Jones was my favorite Braves player since he came up basically, so I had some form of Chipper in my screennames from around 1999 until around 2010, really. I’m usually in a chipper mood, and no, the nickname Chipper the Stripper does NOT hold any weight.
Stevie F- What are your favorite sports teams? All Atlanta? Favorite city you have visited?
My response- Yeah- all Atlanta (Braves, Hawks, Falcons, United, Thrashers ), but I’m also a DIE-HARD Liverpool supporter. So it’s been a pretty great last couple of years for me on that front (It's also why Kop is in the name, as in Spion Kop, for Liverpool's Kop Stand at Anfield). And in terms of favorite city… I loved Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, anywhere in Ireland, etc. I’ve travelled a lot, but I’d say Ireland’s my favorite place overall to go (and since my mother is from there and most of her family still lives there, we go pretty often ).
Break- Which team would you pick to run if you didn't get stuck with the Bucks?
My response- Well, originally I was the Hawks (die-hard Atlanta guy here)- but proboards’ invisibility feature fucked me out of that one, as did the COVID-19 doctor’s and nurses that sold out our hotel during the creation draft and beyond. So the Hawks, I guess. In terms of teams that would be fun to GM now? For sure the Lakers. So much fun, that team.
Chipper- Why did this roundtable take so long to post?
My response- Because certain people (hint, they are in pink) took too long to respond.
