JR’s 2004 BBS Draft Big Board
1. Dwight Howard
Ratings:
B- D+ D+ C+ B- A
B- D+ D+ C+ B- A
- Dwight is young raw and full of potential. Some may think about passing on this guy, but I would advise against this notion. He can come in and start right away and be a factor on the defensive side of the ball as well as on the boards. He will only get better and at worse you have another Ben Wallace on your team. Who doesn’t need one of those guys?
2. Andre Iguodala
Ratings:
B- C C+ B C A
B- C C+ B C A
- Iggy, as the kids call him, is one of the commishes favorites in this draft as well as a good all around player. His notes say he will be elite at everything except scoring so why not pump 24 into his scoring and pray he becomes an efficient 2nd or 3rd option for you? He is the safest pick in this draft in my opinion besides Dwight. Don’t sleep on the Warriors in this draft!
3. Josh Smith
Ratings:
B- C+ C B- C+ A
B- C+ C B- C+ A
- JSmoove! He could end up the best player in the draft or he can end up like LO, which isn’t a bad thing. Josh Smith will be a good all-around player, but his TO issues mentioned in the notes released earlier today scare me. The Lamar Odom comparison might be spot on if he has those issues. I would commit to improving the handling part of his game and camp that before TC even happens. Another player I am HIGH on.
4. Al Jefferson
Ratings:
B- C- D+ C+ C+ A
B- C- D+ C+ C+ A
- Big Al is a great looking player. He is a less athletic version of Dwight. Also a lot more polished offensive game then Dwight. I think Al ends up a really good player, I just don’t build my offense around bigs so he falls to 4 on my big board, if you can call that falling. He needs the ball in his hands to be the most effective so plan on giving him touches early and often in his career if you take this guy.
5. Emeka Okafor
Ratings:
C+ D+ D+ C+ B- A
C+ D+ D+ C+ B- A
- Meka is the perfect big in FBB most of the time. His ratings do look a little low for a plyer that came in and impacted the NBA right away. His notes look good enough for me to take him in the top 5. I do think he will end up the 5th best player in this draft hence the position I have him in. Also, his notes seem to think he has a lower floor then most of the guys on this list similar to Iggy.
6. Kevin Martin
Ratings:
C+ B D+ D+ D+ B
C+ B D+ D+ D+ B
- Kmart and at 6 he’s a deal just like you find at the stores. C+ B starting scoring ratings! You know he isn’t strong coming in at 6’7 and 199 lbs! Dude is light in the pants so assuming his strength is low that means he will be a stud scorer. H20 2.0? This guy could end up being the best scorer from this draft and hes 6th on my big board! WOW! DEEP draft.
7. Ben Gordon
Ratings:
C B+ C C D+ A
C B+ C C D+ A
- BG the 2nd UCONN player taken in the top 10. He is another guy who will be a great scorer. Comes in with B+ outside which is great but the C inside might mean low volume at the beginning of his career. His rebounding grade is what hurts him the most. With bigs playing the perimeter it might be hard for him to start on a good team, but hey look at the Raptors and JRich!
8. JR Smith
Ratings:
C+ B+ C- C C- A
C+ B+ C- C C- A
- JR Swish! Probably the dumbest player in the draft, but boy was he born to play baskeball! A great scorer who can handle the rock and very athletic. C+ B+ scoring is lovely for this high school hooper out of New Jersey. He could go higher then 8th, but I feel he is a riskier pick then the two SGs I rated above him on my big board. Might end up the best out of the three SGs bunched up. Only time will tell.
9. Shaun Livingston
Ratings:
C+ C C+ B C- B
C+ C C+ B C- B
- Shaun Livingston is a very talented PG. He was called the safest point guard to take in this draft. He might go higher because PGs are at a premium in BBS. I have him rated as the 9th best player in this draft and he is definitely a starter in this league for a very long time. Don’t forget about the Warrior bias drafters!
10. Luol Deng
Ratings:
B- C+ C- C+ C A
B- C+ C- C+ C A
- Luol Deng is an interesting player for sure. One might rate him higher then the SGs because of his rebounding abilities. I don’t only because I think the potential for scoring is a lot higher for the 3 SGs rated above him. I think whoever ends up with Deng will be a very happy customer. Another long term starter for a team that gets this guy.
11. Trevor Ariza
Ratings:
C B D+ B C B
C B D+ B C B
- Trevor Ariza looks to be the perfect SG/SF for good teams. He wont take shots away from your stud scorers, play defense, rebound and score efficiently. He is a team player, and every team needs these types of starters. He has a lower floor then most prospects and should be valued during the draft. He might fall because tanking teams will want to take a chance on players with more potential. He is rated high on my big board.
12. Sebastian Telfair
Ratings:
C C+ B- C D A
C C+ B- C D A
- Bassy, cosin of Stephon Marbury, could be the best pick or worst pick of the first round. He is worth a late lotto pick. Take him camp before TC and pray he has a monster TC soon. Handles are an issue, but they usually are for young PGs. He might have the most potential out of all these PGs who knows?
13. Andris Biedrins
Ratings:
C+ F+ D C+ B- B
C+ F+ D C+ B- B
- Biedrins didn’t have the best notes, but ratings similar to the other bigs and was a Warrior. I actually could see somebody taking him earlier then 13 if they needed a big, but this is a big board not a mock so he comes in at 13th for me. Starter someday, so maybe a project. Camp early and maybe he improves enough to start from day 1.
14. Christian Drejer
Ratings:
C+ B+ C- D+ D+ B
C+ B+ C- D+ D+ B
- Not much is known about Christian Drejer. We know he is a stud scorer and could use to improve his defense and rebounding abilities. Europeans have been coming to BBS and making an impact right away. If you don’t believe me check Dimitris on the Rockets and Arvydas on the Pacers. I think this might be too high for him in this deep of draft, but if we are going of track record he will be a stud scorer.
15. Jameer Nelson
Ratings:
C C+ B- B- D+ B
C C+ B- B- D+ B
- Jameer is going to be a starter in this league. Notes say he might be able too, but if he goes to the right team and has one good TC hell be a solid starter in this league. Like most of these guys camp the right places before TC and he could make your life a lot easier. Should be an efficient scorer from the field and not turn it over too much.
16. Tony Allen
Ratings:
C+ C C- A- C B
C+ C C- A- C B
- 1st Team All Defense is Tony Allen’s future in this league. He will never score much, but he will lock down the opposing teams player and will be able to do that from day 1. I will be interested to see where he is camped at by his GM. Some might say this is too high, but defenders are needed for deep playoff runs and he is a great defender and plus rebounder at the 2 guard spot.
17. Devin Harris
Ratings:
C B- B- B- D+ B
C B- B- B- D+ B
- This draft is DEEP when it comes to PGs. Devin Harris is 4th on my big board and should be a top 20 pick. All four should be starters in this league, who ends up better just depends on TCs. I have Harris rated here because I think he has the lowest potential out of the top 4 PGs. It is splitting hairs, but that’s what I’m here for.
18. Josh Childress
Ratings:
B- C C- B- C B
B- C C- B- C B
- Josh Childress is the second player on my big board without notes. His ratings are interesting, same could be said for no notes. I think he is a good role player at the very least. Solid defender good rebounder. If he doesn’t turn it over he might be able to crack some starting lineups with improvements to his scoring. I think if he goes anywhere 18 or after its good value.
19. Anderson Varejao
Ratings:
C+ D+ D C+ B- B
C+ D+ D C+ B- B
- Will never be a shot blocker, but can rebound and defend the post good enough to see minutes for a long time in BBS. His notes said good 3rd big and I was in on that before the notes. This just clarifys to me he isn’t going to be a STOCK guy in this league.
20. Dorell Wright
Ratings:
C B C- C+ C A
C B C- C+ C A
- Dorell is an interesting prospect. His ratings are solid for a 19 year old prospect. Could see him going higher, but the low inside seems like he wont have much volume. Plus rebounder is a bonus, If his defense improves as well as his volume he could be a very good starter, but for now I project him as a project, hue, and a longterm rotation player.
21. Kris Humphries
Ratings:
C+ C D+ C B- B
C+ C D+ C B- B
- Kris Humphries wont be brought down by any of the Kardashians in this alternate universe so lets get that out the way. He will be a stud rebounder, everybody needs one, and is 19 years old. Maybe you get lucky and he can get a block a game in his prime and does 10/12. Most likely a 3rd big though and that’s why he is 21st on my big board.
22. Beno Udrih
Ratings:
C+ B- C+ C+ D+ B
C+ B- C+ C+ D+ B
- Beno has no notes so that would make it 3 in the top 22. I think he is a low volume efficient scorer who doesn’t turn it over much either. Maybe can be a starter, maybe can only be a backup. If his handling is high he could be the steal of this draft. When it gets this late in the draft you normally hope, but in this one you will get a good player in the top 25.
23. Delonte West
Ratings:
C C+ B- C+ D+ B
C C+ B- C+ D+ B
- Delonte is said to be a career backup, spot starter type of guy. I mean if you get a goo backup at 23 in the draft I think you are doing solid. Most late first rounders don’t have any value so getting a guy you can plan on giving minutes to is a win this late. I think he has the chance to be a low end starter if you have great players elsewhere.
24. Damien Wilkins
Ratings:
C+ C+ C- B C B
C+ C+ C- B C B
- It wouldn’t be right if every player wasn’t in my top 25 so here is Wilkins coming in at 24th. B defense and C+ C+ scoring ratings is solid. Says he wont get much better, so a backup role on a contending team sounds like a good landing spot for him. Like Ive stated over and over again this draft is deep with players that you can give minutes to.
25. Sasha Vujacic
Ratings:
C+ C+ C+ C+ D B
C+ C+ C+ C+ D B
- The “Machine” is his nickname so I have no cluse why he has C+ outside. Either way I think he is the 25th best prospect and he rounds out my top 25 big board. C+ inside is nice so he might have the volume needed to be a backup 1-2. If his handles are solid that would be the perfect place for him. Hell score off the bench and not turn it over. Either way at 25th it’s a solid player.
