I think I also first met Stool in bbsbl3, but really didn't start becoming friends with him until after I rejoined HOFFBL. Rumor has it his real name is Paul.
Seriously though, he's takin a lot of ribbing over the years and has always been a stand up guy and not let anything bother him, including back when he worked for Tampa PD and I asked if he knew how to park a car.
So without further adieu lets get into the interview
So stooolfan, lets get the obvious question out of the way first. Whats up with the name? How did it come to be something you used online?
Stoolfan- I like shit. No, I played a game called MLB Dugout Heroes and went by STLFAN. People in that community were upset on how I pitched and started calling me a tool..I ran with it and Stooolfan was born. When anyone asks I just tell them I like shit.
Dugout heros.. thats where you first met some of the people common to these leagues, right? How did you go from there to OotP5 leagues?
Yes I actually played with BreaktheWalls in Dugout Heroes and Shale for those who know him. They were the ones to recruit me to BBSBL 3 and dive head first into the Sim Leagues. It was a lot of fun, the shit talking and competing. Was a new game to me but, damn it was a lot of fun. Kind of like how this is new experience have to learn by doing.
This league has been around now for, crap, 3 years now and you are just getting a shot, why do you think Spence didn’t let you in sooner?
I see why Spence did not let me in....I have no idea what I am doing. I was also inactive for a bit on the baseball side, though many stopped working for COVID I did not. This league moves so fast! If I would have joined earlier I would not have made it and been fired. Though I prob will fired this CY go around if I don't figure it out!
I mean you’ve been in a few leagues with Spencer, did it bother you Break got to be a part of this day one, but you didn’t?
haha good ole Break. Nah it doesn't bother me. I respect Spencer and his league and was happy to be invited when I did. I love the OTTP5 but the GM's are not as active and I missed the crazy activity of BBSBL3 which is where I know most of these GM's from.
I kept seeing you pop up onto the wait list, asking to get in, why were you so determined to get in when it looked like it would never happen?
Yes I would get bored with my OTTP5 leagues and Fantasy Football would end. I am very active in Draft Kings for Football and when that ends I needed something to fill the void. So I would look to Sims, I never tried a basketball sim and wanted to give it a shot. I finally got the shot and have been having a lot of fun with it and learning which GM's are sharks or genuinely helpful.
I know you and I chat a lot, who else here do you wanna throw out props for being helpful? what are some of the things you found out from others that surprised you?
Play has been very helpful to me. I have always respected his opinion and instead of just telling me what to do he will have me talk through it and very helpful when I bounce ideas off him. You have been a huge help as well. Generally, people have been very helpful. Broph, Ashes...etc.
So being the noob, what’s your perspective so far of BBS. Are you finding it to be more addictive than the baseball leagues, about the same or?
The trading and having to research players further than their ratings makes this game a lot of fun. I'm still a die hard baseball fan compared to basketball so its hard to compare. I enjoy both in different aspects.
The activity here is pretty high, have you ever been in another league with this kind of activity? and what do you think of the league so far?
Yes the activity is awesome. I have not been in a league with this activity since Erbes BBSBL3. Which a lot of the GM's here were apart of. I wish they would help us out in HOFFBL but it seems there OTTP5 days are over! I enjoy the league and its pace, though sometimes it is even too fast for me.
Good ol erbes and bbsbl3, who all from that league do you remember that are here? who do you trust, who wouldn't you be in a room with, and who do you most wanna trade with?
That league off the top of my head, prob will miss some! Play, HF, Kobe, Ashes, Broph, the now fired Steve, Greeme, waitlisted Break, losanglife, prob more. I trust the majority of them, not Steve he always has a trade agenda LOL. Again Steve, Im still pissed at him for taking advantage of me in BBSBL3 when I was new with the old as dirt Albert Pujols . I always like trading with Play and HF in leagues. Though Play and I never come to an agreement!
What drama in the league so far has caught your eye? whats your opinion of it?
I avoid the Drama as a Police Officer I deal with enough of that shit lol.
So Speaking of your career as you and most know my brother was also a police officer, how did you end up seeking it as a career?
I was in the United States Army, following my combat tours and seperating from the military I needed to find a job and I had no Idea what I wanted to do...my Infantry skills really didn't apply to the real world. So I applied to be a Police Officer. Luckily for me a lot of the requirements were waived for being a combat Vet, so I was fast tracked and landed the job. I am so grateful I did, I love having the opportunity to serve my community and make a difference. I pride myself is helping people and holding criminals accountable.
So earlier you brought up Draft kings... so tell me more about it, I've seen the adds, is it worth betting? What are your strategies?
Draft Kings I mainly play the Sunday Slates. I have won multiple grand prizes on Daily Fantasy. I think my largest take down was 50,000 winner. I put a lot of effort into roster construction and trying to be unique compared to the field. If anyone is interested in getting more in depth with this I use establishtherun.com and sabersim.com to help me with my roster construction. The general strategy is use chalky running backs (chalky is highly owned) and Tea, stack a game with a Qb and two less owned receivers on the same team. Then you use a bring back which is another player on the opposite team playing your main stack. it is all about correlation.
Tell me about your ideal weekend with no work?
Ideal weekend relaxing with the wife and kids and just enjoying life. I love to Travel and go to Cardinals Baseball games.
