1) Who had the best TC, which players surprised you...who disappointed you?
Habes: My two guys who got 100 potential did little/nothing, so they disappointed me. Loved McGinnis’s TC. Around the league, surprised by Kermit’s major improvements. Ray Lewis looks great. A lot of the top rookies had disappointing TCs—Knight, Wilks, World B. come to mind, but they’ll all be very good anyway.
nybombers3: idk. Dr J looks nasty. Ray looks better. The Heat did have an off TC but kobe's a great GM. He made a great trade after the TC and I'm sure he'll figure it out to hit CY. Rookies overall don't look amazing really. As for my team, Money looks good. I wish Jamaal kept the A potential but he still looks good. I kind of wish Gerard did something besides +1. Oh well.
2) Worst Trade this offseason, best trade?
Championship DVA: Worse? JoJo White for scrubs and a mid pick. Portland 57 looks good now but it’s the West. I think they can slide into the playoffs. Best? Same trade. Memphis getting JoJo.
Habes: Royal didn’t really have a choice but to dump Willis, but think that would be the worst deal from a value standpoint. I love Bob Love but thought that was an overpay by Kobe. If by best you mean mutually beneficial, I guess the Lakers-Hawks deal. I didn’t like it for LA, but it looks perfect after TC.
nybombers3: At the time? Lakers/Hawks was the worst. Felt like, while they wanted Ray and got him, I didn't understand how it was just Ray alone. Best I guess the Greg Smith deal. Fun for the Heat and helps push the Pistons to a rebuild.
3) Who is the worst current GM, Who is the best current GM?
Championship DVA: Can’t say anyone is bad at the moment. Best current GM is probably Brian right now despite losing finals b2b. Bridges at sf was slick as fuck.
Habes: IDK who’s the worst, there are a few unproven guys and some guys who never have any success but also don’t really put in the effort. As for best GM, I’m not giving out that compliment to any of the idiots who deserve it.
nybombers3: I suck so sure. I'll take worst. Best, idk. You gotta give DBW his due. His team looks nasty. They might not win a title this year but they are set up very well.
4) Which player has the highest value in the league right now and why?
Habes: Dr. J. Way better than I thought he’d be based on notes. Obviously 100 potential has something to do with that, but he was probably already there before the pot boost. A/A scoring with stocks and elite rebounding speaks for itself.
nybombers3: Has to be Dr J right? Look at his stats and ratings. Plus his last TC. Don't think there's one player you'd trade him for right now.
5) If you were the Warriors GM what would you do with the team?
Championship DVA: Bottom out and tank. Land top 3 pick and build from there.
Habes: Just tank. Don’t ever listen to trade offers for Walton or Jones. You’re new and learning the league—you have an incredible frontcourt and there’s no reason to move either guy while you learn FBB. You can add talent through the draft and FA and can deal expirings + picks for vets when you’re ready to compete. You’re in great shape.
nybombers3: If you aren't on a rookie deal, I'd dump you ASAP. At the deadline, try to see what's available and maybe see if you can land some solid talent for next year. I believe it's your CY right?
6) After TC, who had the best draft and who had the worst?
Championship DVA: Hawks trading for and drafting Moses. Idk who had the worst.
Habes: Kobe had the best draft. Wilson and Gus will be very good starters, and I kind of think Andre McCarter has a Freddie Lewis future if the threes develop. Obviously McCarter having mediocre handles is a big difference between them, but they can be +9’d, and I think that’s less of a big deal when a guy has good inside scoring.
nybombers3: Worst is tough. A lot of top rookies don't look amazing right now. kobe had a solid draft, ignoring the first TC. I'm sure some of those guys pick it up. Grizz had a pretty solid looking draft as well I think.
7) Will the CY teams make it? What do they need to do?
Championship DVA: East will be a bloodbath. Bulls and Heat will make it. Bucks? Idk yet. Might need another big deal.
Habes: Bulls and Heat safe. Bucks need to deal Wilkes and Money and bring in two stars. Gotta happen fast too because right now they’re about a 30-win team.
nybombers3: Bulls need a PG mostly. I'm sure they get it. Heat are fine as is. Bucks, well, yeah. Bye.
8) Who is the most overvalued player in the league?
Championship DVA: Steve Jones? Bob Kauffman? Spurs might want a lot for them.
Habes: Good question. IDK. There’s not that much talk about value these days. Wish Skillz would do his value articles again—those were great. I guess I’ll say Gene Moore. I see people talk about him like he’s one of the elite bigs. He’s a very good big but far from elite.
nybombers3: Hm. I've been out of the loop somewhat so I'll bounce off this question. I have my opinions based on trade talks but eh.
9) Tell me something about you.
Championship DVA: I love Mexican food.
Habes: I’m obsessed with making roasted chicken at the moment. I’m deep into the YouTube roasted chicken universe.
nybombers3: I love cooking. I find it relaxing as hell trying to make dishes from different cultures.
