2058 Mock Draft!
*this mock is limited to guys with notes since I didn’t dive that deep in yet
1. Philadelphia 76ers- Micheal Ray Richardson SF 6'5'' 189 22 B C B+ A- B- A - *Can start at PG.
- This pick can really go a lot of ways. I am not sure there is a consensus 1, maybe not even a consensus of what the top 5 should be. I am going to go with MRR since he is a PG who will surely be a great rebounder and Erbes was even quoted “pairing richardson with king would be dopeeee”
2. Miami Heat- Jack Sikma C 6'11'' 230 22 B B- C+ C+ B+ A
-Lots of different ways Kobe can go here but Jack should be a high volume big who already is the classes top rebounder. Kobe mentioned he feels Jack is 1 post notes and I could agree hes worth that pick so Miami is happy here at 2. I love the combo of elite jumper and strength with good inside! 3. New York Knicks- Michael Cooper SG 6'7'' 170 21 C+ B- C+ A- C A
-As typical the Knicks are loaded with youth after getting strong assets in the latest rebuild. They hit home with Dennis Johnson and Dantley and have Dawkins downlow. The question here is does he go big man with elite stocks or high volume wing and pair that scoring/ defense with Dantley . I went with the latter since Sargo likely sees a lot of value in a guy like Coop. I see him as a stocks first wing who will eventually get volume. Good steals, blocks and handles already at the 2. I think he will be like Greg Smith and that seems hard to pass up on. 4. Phoenix Suns- Mike Mitchell SF 6'7'' 215 21 B+ C+ C- C+ C+ A
-Andrew is back! That is what is most important. He can really go a lot of ways here as his best move would be take BPA and move Dan Issel/ the rest of that team after giving away George T. Mitchel is a score first player who should be a stud in this league, however, he lacks stocks which is why I put cooper over him. Elite inside scoring, jumpshot and handing. That’s not good but elite. I think over time if camped right Mike will be a superstar especially if his stocks develop and he can board decently. 5. Raptors (Via Portland Trail Blazers) Tree Rollins C 7'1'' 235 22 B- C- D A- C+ B
-Traded up here to start a rebuild and in this case I pass up on some pretty talented PG. Is that dumb? Probably yes but I want to tank and I already have World B. Free. Tree is where I will root my rebuild and even if he isn’t a perfect player at least he will block shots for the Raps. Going to pump that rebounding early. Pot questionable I guess! 6. Hawks (Via Minnesota Timberwolves)- Maurice Cheeks PG 6'1'' 180 21 B- B- B- B+ C A
-The Hawks are feeling like the raps of 20 years ago with this dominance and how many trades they are winning. They even recently were able to tap into the bank of break to move a recently maxed poor shooting 12.6/3.3 big for the 7th pick in what was called the greatest lotto of all time or GLOAT for short (credit to Habes). The next move is to deal off vet Walt Frazier and replace him with his choice of two future stars at the position. I went with Cheeks because his handles are ready now and although Reggie seems like a better scorer to start Cheeks will likely slip right in and steal the ball, defend and keep the hawks going. 7. Sacramento Kings- Greg Ballard SF 6'7'' 215 22 B B- C+ C+ C+ A
-Still a strong draft but gets even more uncertain here. Chipper is in the first year of a rebuild and could just go whoever he thinks is BPA. That could be like 3-5 players right now. Ballard is very interesting as you know he will score the rock and handle the ball from the start. Hes middle of the pack with C+ rebounding but id expect that to develop well for SF. I think this is a fine pick! 8. Detroit P (Via Washington Wizards)- Reggie Theus PG 6'7'' 190 20 B+ C+ B C+ C A
-Well this man just traded his PG in a cost saving measure and likes buckets so Reggie fills both needs there. Whoever Habes takes will be lucky as they will quickly be exposed to the new culture movement in Detroit. Players want to be there and are loving the local pizza to much surprise. Reggie’s concern is handles but those will be camped. Elite inside on a PG at pick 8? I mean yeah9. Denver Nuggets- Otis Birdsong SG 6'3'' 190 22 B- C+ B- C+ C A
-Denver has a stud big and a great SG already but are really trying to fully blow it up. At pick 9 I think Birdsong is a great selection. Otis is pretty good at everything youd want him to be and has A scouted pot. If Royal was going to try to compete maybe the SG would be a redundant pick but he seems BPA10. Los Angeles Clippers- Walter Davis SG 6'6'' 193 23 B B- B- C+ C A
-I think this is a great trade out spot in the draft. Game suffered some massive injuries which derailed him last year. Why not trade pick 10 for BPA and add ready talent to that team. I mean he already has 2 PGs, Austin Carr and Drew! I put Davis here as BPA given his notes and A potential but a big would work too. 11. 76ers (Via Detroit Pistons)- Kent Benson C 6'10'' 235 23 B C- D+ B- C+ A
-Benson isn’t much on the blocking end but he can steal and score. Is he a future SF in a center’s body at current time? Either way he has A pot and this is pick 11 so I think it works just fine 12. New Orleans Hornets - Wayne Cooper C 6'10'' 220 21 C+ C- C- A- C+ B
-Leave it to Jah to find a decent big end of lotto. Cooper is very strong has good blocks and can board. Probably will be an abysmal scorer but who cares. Keep the 38-45 win train going out in Nola!
13. Indiana Pacers - Eddie Jordan PG 6'1'' 170 22 B- C+ B- A- C B
-Some solid players left here but based on historical data the pacers would obviously pick a point guard. Eddie Jordan is good. He can hit his jumpers and steal the ball. He is very quick and likely will develop into a starter.
