Ten mf deals
By frangie
Warriors send: Bobby Jones
Magic send: James Donaldson, Carl Fuller, Magic 65
Warriors would get a stud young big to replace Bobby, and the Magic would cash in on a prospect to go for a ring. Would love to see Donald pull off a move like this because the East is wide open and he could get a title with an upgrade. Bobby is incredible, and Fuller wouldn’t be much of a loss since Kent Benson looks like a great third big if you camp the rebounds. It’s a nice bridge deal for the Warriors–Donaldson got the +15 and should be an elite big, and Fuller replaces Jones to keep them in playoff contention in the West.
Knicks send: Mark Aguirre, Bob Elliott, Clemon Johnson, Phoenix 65
Warriors send: Bill Walton
Let’s rebuild the Warriors tonight. I think the value is a litttttle thin here, but it’s close. Love Clemon. Signed cheap, d-rebs are over 85, and blocks look close to it. Aguirre and Blackman are a tossup value-wise, so take your pick on which one gets included. I lean Aguirre because of the elite inside scoring. Cool deal, let’s see it happen lads.
Knicks send: Rolando Blackman, Joe Barry Carroll, Brian Winters, PHX 65, NY 66
Blazers send: George McGinnis
Again, kinda thin value for George, but he’s 31 and expiring so not sure he’s gonna command more. Manas wants to rebuild. Blackman is a great wing to jumpstart a rebuild. JBC is bad, but who knows? He has potential, and it seems like Manas would need secondary pieces since there was apparently only one prospect in the ‘63 draft he would’ve dealt McGinnis for straight up. As for the Knicks, they’d have Walton-Dawkins-McGinnis-Dantley-Buse. Speaks for itself.
Wizards send: Expirings
Kings send: Don Adams
Seems like an easy deal. Wiz don’t have their pick this year and next season is the CY, so makes sense to add a locked up star. They have plenty of exp to do it. For the Kings, they want to lose and Adams is 34. Take the expirings and move on.
Sixers send: Brad Davis, PHI 65, PHI 66
Warriors send: Calvin Murphy
Two decent firsts for a very good PG. Erbes asked me to include this deal with one pick. I added a second one for fun. Like me, Calvin is 33. It so happens that he grew up in a neighboring town. He went on to attend Niagara University, where he was a three-time All-American. He scored 2,548 points in 77 games (33.1 points per game). He has 14 children.
Grizz send: Darwin Cook, Cedric Maxwell
Jazz send: Kermit Washington
I think a rebuild makes sense for the Jazz. They have their picks and a foundational piece in Laimbeer. Not going anywhere as constructed, and they could get firsts for guys like Lanier and Collins after moving Kermy "The Bear" Washington. The Grizz have an awesome stock team, but the rebounding is atrocious, Slick is the right starting PG, Roundfield is much better at SF, and I don’t like Maxwell or Jones as starters. I think Darwin could be the next Ray Lewis, but he’s a solid gamble for the Jazz, and maybe someone will give a pick for Maxwell. Kermit isn’t a superstar, but he’s a great rebounder and pretty good or better at everything else. Good target for the Grizz.
Pacers send: Andrew Toney, Otis Howard, Roger Phegley
Blazers send: James Edwards
Pacers have a good chance at a ring but badly need a third big. They can afford to move Toney, and Edwards as a four-stock big would be a huge upgrade for them. Not sure Toney’s any good, but he has value and has all RCs left. Good deal for both.
Clippers send: John Drew
Nets send: Tom Chambers, Rick Adelman, Pistons 64, Nets 66
Hard to find a Drew deal but felt like he needed to be in this article. Greeme says he wants talent. Drew is in his prime and better than Chambers will be. Clips, meanwhile, get a very good prospect to start off the rebuild. Seems like an easy deal, but I bet both guys will object to it.
Bucks send: Jamaal Wilkes
Heat send: Joe Hammond, Larry Steele, filler, Heat 65 and 66
I really like WIlkes as a shooting guard. Think it would unlike a lot of volume for him and he’d be a nice replacement for Bob Reid for Da Heat. Exactly what the Heat should be after. For the Bucks, they’re tanking and this is as good as it gets as far as I can tell as value for Wilkes. He’s a solid player and these aren’t great firsts, but I’d be happy to unload him and bottom out rather than let him win me games.
Lakers send: Artis Gilmore
Heat send: Jack Sikma, Sam Lacey
Heat would come out of these deals with Beard-Wilkes-Bird-Ray-Artis. Probably the favorites. Lakers have their pick lotto protected and are hard capped without a full roster. I like a retool for them. Sikma can’t play anywhere other than at SF but could be nice there. B-/B+ scoring is pretty shit, but A rebounding on the wing is amazing. Good deal. Should’ve happened years ago.
