The Lasagna Kid presents:
Knights of the Round Table version 65
This years Knights providing their insight all things BBS are Mike, CC, Andy and JR. Welcome one and all to the grandest roundtable, and that is the Knights!
Any surprise in who was drafted when in the lotto and why do you think it was?
the original michael - Honestly, after the top 3, it was wide open in my opinion. Everyone had significant flaws. Did I like Doc? Sure. Didn’t need to have him given his low scoring. He was lower C C+. Bol will probably be the answer here for many, but he’ll be a 3.5-4 block guy out of the gate with good handles. +16 those boards and +8 the strength and he should be Eaton.
Dream's Team - Manute Bol at #4. I had him going after the lotto. Bol will provide blocks but that's about it. Not sure if that alone is worth #4.
JR - I don’t think there were many surprises. Boo went early but i expected that. Blocks reign supreme. Thought I’d get Harper at 12 but we have a troll gm in Cleveland.
nybombers3 - I was surprised to see Bol at 4. It's not impossible for a big to develop their rebounding quickly and we've seen bigs like that work (Edwards being the latest case) but you have to make sure the rest of the team is great at rebounding and he can't be an offensive mess. It's a bit much to overcome and drafting him 4th, eh. That said, I don't think sargo keeps him long. 2 seasons?
What is your over under on winning teams this upcoming season? How many tanking teams do you think will reset?
the original michael - There will definitely be some tanking teams that find themselves in the playoffs. I’d say more than half will be tanking, but tanking with any talent is risky. Those teams should look to add free talent and win.
Dream's Team - tanking teams will reset. I'm pretty sure they are all in on MJ, including myself. The winning teams will continue to do their thing and win 50+ games. There's going to be a lot of cruise control from both winning and losing teams this upcoming season.
JR - I think 4 tanking teams in the west will reset. That conference is so bad even with GMs trying to win.
nybombers3 - I think we'll have 8 teams in the East over .500 and 6 in the West. I don't know how or why I came up with these numbers but yeah. I think teams will start off well and just keep it going. Might as well reset if you aren't going to be terrible.
Obligatory, how’s your team gonna do this year?
the original michael - Hopefully one of the worst. Would just like to see Scott and Bol develop. If I get anything out of Threatt, Tucker or Stipanovich - I’ll be excited.
Dream's Team - Very bad. Bill will get his numbers but we are gonna suck hard as a team.
JR - they will probably do better than i want them to. Probably 35 wins or so. Unless i don’t sign anybody then i might be able to win around 27-30 games.
nybombers3 - Honestly depends on my starting rookie FA and what depth I can get. I can see us winning 44 - 46 this year. I can also see us sucking because of subpar PG play. Im ok either way honestly.
Give Stoool some advice: If you had Walton and you wanted to tank, what would you trade him for in this market?
the original michael - Not wasting any time. Let him do whatever he wants. Who cares anymore.
Dream's Team - Pick a direction and stick with it. Right now Warriors are stuck in mediocrity. If I was in his position, I would just trade Walton for younger assets especially since he's 31 and has 2 years left on his deal. He deserves to be on a contender.
JR - Id take the bets offer available. Put him on the block and decide after TC which one. If not just keep him and trade the rest of your team.
nybombers3 - I get the idea of not just dumping talent, especially players like Walton. That said, eventually, there has to come a point where you move on and pivot. Both for your team and overall sanity. Also, Walton is about to enter that 3rd big deal and that can be a very annoying thing to deal with. I'd look to reset again this year and move on next year. I'd hope for a top 10 pick and once I got that, move on.
I see Chipper making CY since no one other than DB is gonna try and win this season, how do you see it?
the original michael - He should make it, yes. The roster now still needs work though. It’s all over the place. Still wish chip was more responsive when we talked trade.
Dream's Team - Same. West will suck so bad this season. They could probably win 42 AND be a top 5 seed.
JR - He won’t have to make a move he’ll be able to reset his CY easily. I mean he should hit teams that are tanking for players sure they’ll give their guys cheaper then usual.
nybombers3 - He'll reset if he does what he needs to do. First, get under HC. He needs frontcourt talent bad. Move on from Theus, get assets if possible and use those to get frontcourt talent. I'd keep Galis as the backup 1/2 and well, pray really.
So many are salivating at next years draft, but is it the best draft to tank for? What draft coming up is on your radar?
the original michael - It’s probably best to win, but is that fun? Nah. I love the top guys next year and the following year. Should be fun building from scratch.
Dream's Team - 85 looks damn good. But as long MJ/Dream/Stockton/Charles are coming in next year, it's gotta be the best draft the league has seen in years. Plus I could see a 85 prospect declaring early for the 84 draft like we've seen Alvin Robertson join this years draft. 84 could be even deeper.
JR - Honeatly haven’t looked but getting a rookie Gary Payton would be fun. Think he was 89 or 90. Maybe 92? Idk I loved 90s basketball so these drafts are gonna be fun for myself.
nybombers3 - I mean, this is the draft to tank for. The biggest come out from this draft won't be who gets who. It'll be which teams are stuck in that horrible limbo because they dumped and ended up with pick 7 or some shit. All that said, I want Ewing so I'll tank next year.
What kind of stips do you think Spence puts on MJ? Will it be like Chamberlin with POT but outside allowed?
the original michael - Hopefully not. That would be ASS. Would probably trade his ass if that’s the case. I think Spencer saw how that worked out with Wilt. Did he ever win? Don’t recall…
Dream's Team - Can't think of any stips atm. Just let MJ be MJ but you just never know if there's going to be a twist. It's definitely going to be a lot of fun when the file comes out.
JR - Why would he put a stop on the GOAT? Wouldn’t make sense would be hilarious then it might turn some GMs off.
nybombers3 - Let him miss a season to play baseball. Make it a RNG thing so a team can't just be ready to tank with MJ. Just one season. Will this happen? No. Do I want to see it for the fuckery? Yes.
I know I’d never have the luck to get MJ, but how do you think the 3 runners up will rank for BBS (Dream, Stock and Sir Chuck)?
the original michael - Dream, Chuck, Stock. Elite big man in Hakeem. Could make the argument got Barkley at 2. Stockton the clear #4.
Dream's Team - Dream, Charles, then Stockton. Bigs over smalls all day.
JR - Dream is a close second. He’ll be able to do it all then Charles being a great rebounding guy who can shoot it a hit. Stockton idk how he’ll translate tbh. I’d probably trade back if i got 4.
nybombers3 - Dream, Stockton and Chuck. Dream will be a top big. PG's are what they are in FBB so he'll get bumped. Chuck, idk. He'll be a rebounding stud but scoring can maybe hold him down.
There you have it gents, and thank you for stopping by to see what these fine individuals have to say about the coming year!
