Friends & fellow GM's,
We are back for another year of Spence unloading some sweet, sweet BBS love juice upon us all which also see's the return of everyone's favourite BBS article series- Footy's Fuckin Power Polls.
In this edition, 13 executives gave their opinions and votes on the league's top 10 teams as we enter the 2005 season.
Results are below:
1. Sacramento Kings (129 votes, 12 First Place Votes)
Record: 18-6
Sved: They are the defending champs and brought everybody back
JR: Best team still probably repeats barring any huge injuries
Ahsan: Defending champs added some depth pieces in the offseason, is there really a question who is here right now?
Galo: The defending champs brought everyone back
2. LA Lakers (98 votes, 1 FPV)
Record: 8-10
JR: Bad preseason but I’m sure they’ll figure it out
Habes: Found a good fifth starter and an excellent supersub by downgrading from Dirk to DD. Too much talent.
Ahsan: This team has a stacked lineup and elite 6th man. Could use some more frontcourt depth but overall an amazing team
Jah: They mixed it up some but still have a very good starting lineup. Depth might be a big concern
3. New York Knicks (92 votes)
Record: 12-8
Sved: Trying out Shaq and limited scoring around him, idk about the PG
Erbes: Skillz has a different team every year! Crazy. Looks like this year he's going all in on defense. The acquisition of Shaq is insane. I'd bet the farm that Skillz figures out how to use him correctly and he's named MVP at the end of the season
Frangie: I trust Skillz one hindered percent
Brian: They have shaq now too smh
4. New Orleans Hornets (78 votes)
Record: 12-5
DB: Fun squad, an elite scorer. Added billups. Good stuff!
Erbes: Is this too high? I don't know! Basing this a bit off of an amazing preseason sim. He could potentially have 4 20 ppg scorers. That's pretty insane! Pig went out and got the missing piece in Chauncey this year. Definitely favorites in the East
Ahsan: After that TC, Billups+Houston looking like splash bros with scoring/rebounding/stocks throughout the frontcourt. They might even be as high as two but the teams I put above them are more accomplished which is they are here in my preseason poll.
Jah: When you land Billups and go undefeated in preseason you jump up the rankings
5. Cleveland Cavaliers (73 votes)
Record: 11-9
DB: Added tony parker still have KG and KVH. Good squad!
JR: Ehhh I don’t like this team much. Too much fluff for me. Still a top team just not as good as before
Ahsan: Feel like they win 60+ every season and get better. Nabbing Tony Parker was amazing for them and I feel like him joining KG+KVH is scary as the team can mask Parker's rebounding deficiency well.
6. Indiana Pacers (63 votes)
Record: 6-7
Sved: Tim Duncan.
Erbes: Duncan, of course! But feels like a bit of an empty team? Can Sargo put 1 or 2 more pieces in place? Just not sure anyone can win with El-Amin. He's like a worse version of Snow
Ahsan: Duncan+AMac and some nice role players. Feel like they need more depth and maybe a better PG to be higher than this
Jah: Giving Duncan the benefit of the doubt early on
7. Miami Heat (59 votes)
Record: 8-8
DB: Still an offensive juggernaut. They have some good pieces, should be a top team
Frangie: Itrust Kobe he is smart
JR: Probably ranked them too low but they lost a lot of scoring trading Ricky away and no PG!
Habes: West gives them a great defensive frontcourt, and they don't lose much offense with ZBo/Finley on the wing. Needs a PG upgrade!
Galo: I like the west move and zbo move to SF
8. Phoenix Suns (30 votes)
Record: 18-4
DB: Big dog and LJ on this squad should make them pretty competitive this season
Habes: No idea where to rank them, so let's guess high. Two great scorers, a low-turnover PG whose scoring is above average, and great rebounding. I see low 50s wins
Ahsan: Possibly the best starting lineup in the league with Gasol-Chandler-LJ-Big Dog-White Chocolate. Need depth but their team is looking pretty
9. San Antonio Spurs (18 votes)
Record: 10-12
JR: Solid core here. Tmac and Crawford are very very good.
Habes: John's struggle to build a contender around his two superstars continues for another year; there's not enough on board for the Spurs to really compete.
Frangie: This is too high but they have a great big 3
10. Minnesota Timberwolves (14 votes)
Record: 15-7
Sved: Need a PG to truly compete
JR: I think they have a solid team might be tanking them a little high oh well. Zo and Bosh doenlow oh my!!!
Brian: Look at that team
Habes: I want to rank them higher, but the PG situation is too bad
Jah: I want to show a little faith in a contract year team!
