2005 FULL Post-Notes Mock Draft!
Round 1:
1) - Chris Paul PG 6'1'' 175 19 B C B B C A
Analysis: Is there really any question who goes here? CP3 has nice defense/rebounding for a rookie go to along with B C scoring at age 19. Likely has really good potential and should end up being one of the best PGs in the league for many seasons to come.
2) - Deron Williams PG 6'3'' 200 21 C+ C+ B C+ C A
Analysis: The consolation prize in the CP3 sweepstakes is Deron. His ratings don't look all that great with high passing and low defense with C+ C+ offense but he likely has strong potential. Notes say very good starter so perhaps camps can turn him into a star PG. Regardless, it is the obvious choice here despite his shortcomings.
3) - Danny Granger SF 6'9'' 222 22 B- B- C- B- C B
Analysis: This is a guy who shot up due to strong notes. Stating "camps can push him into elite 2-way wing status" makes me feel like an active GM will draft him, camp the hell out of him and put the notes to the test. If he does become an elite two-way wing, then watch out. Feel like it is risky to take him when you have former Warriors available such as Bogut or Lee or Ellis but this is likely the guy I would take.
4) - Andrew Bogut C 7'0'' 260 21 C+ D C+ B B- A
Analysis: A low-volume offensive big who is a great rebounder/defender is always valuable and Bogut seems to be just that. It is difficult to justify taking a player who will likely be a role player in the Top 5 of a draft but if he does fulfill that All-League defender destiny, then it is a great pick. Assuming he can be an elite rebounder/shotblocker in this league, he will always have strong value.
5) - Andrew Bynum C 7'0'' 285 18 B- C- D+ C B- A
Analysis: When Drafting in the Top 5, you want a star and Bynum probably has the most upside here. The lack of defense is why I made him the second big taken, that C defense is ugly though his notes does say that he can block a little so that helps him. For him to really become a great player in the league however, his defense will need to develop. Given that he is only age 18, the potential is likely to be retained which could help tremendously. Might even go as high as 3 but feel like he ends up in the 5th-7th range just because of the notes on Granger and the defense of Bogut.
6) - David Lee PF 6'9'' 245 22 B C C C B B
Analysis: A former Warrior All-Star! Honestly, he somewhat reminds me of David West. Notes say nothing about blocking but I wouldn't be shocked if he does show shotblocking ability. If he has that, then it is a great pick. If not, the ugly defense really does hurt him. Either way, worth taking high in this draft.
7) - Monta Ellis SG 6'3'' 185 20 B- C C+ C D+ A
Analysis: Another former Warrior All-Star! Monta has been in Spencer 's avatar all season long and might even end up going higher than this slot. His main issue is that he is an SG who isn't much of a defender/rebounder. For him to really have top-level value, he has to become an elite-level scorer and entering with C outside at age 20 is not the best start.
8) - Amir Johnson C 6'9'' 240 18 C+ C- C- B C+ B
Analysis: I thought his notes were great and being age 18 likely retaining most of his potential for 2 seasons can make him awesome. His notes stated that his worst case was a solid backup 4/5 which makes you wonder what his best case is. The fact that he already has B defense with shotblocking ability is awesome and enough to be picked fairly high in this draft which is why I've got him here.
9) - Marvin Williams SF 6'8'' 237 19 B- C+ D+ C+ C B
Analysis: I found it rather odd that Marvin didn't have any notes. Perhaps too odd? Out of 20 players, he is one of the most interesting in this class. A 19 year old with B- C+ offense and C rebounding (which is solid for a wing). Defense of C+ isn't really pretty but if his potential under the hood is strong, then he is a steal. When you draft in the 5-10 range, you sometimes feel the need to swing for the fences and what greater swing is there than a guy who doesn't even have notes?.
10) (form ) - Fran Vazquez PF 6'10'' 240 22 C+ C D C+ C+ A
Analysis: Speaking of swinging for the fences, what bigger boom or bust is there in this draft than Fran? The C outside for a big is good but the rest of his game just looks so raw right now. If he has potential however, then he can be a star but you can say that about any player. Vasquez is highly intriguing making me think he goes in the Top 10 of this draft
11) - Lou Williams SG 6'1'' 175 19 C+ B+ C C D+ A
Analysis: "Sweet" Lou is a SCORER. Would have been nice if he was PG-eligible but since he is not, the ugly defense/rebounding really does hurt him as an SG. If he was PG-eligible, he could go as high as 8. Similar to Monta, for him to have a lot of value, he must become an elite-level scorer and coming in with C+ B+ offense at age 19 does look nice. If he can develop into a great scorer, then this is a steal.
12) (from ) - Ersan Ilyasova PF 6'9'' 235 18 C+ B- C- C C+ B
Analysis: There were no notes on Ersan but this 18-year old doesn't really defend, shows C+ B- offense and C+ rebounding. Feel like his future in this league is likely at SF/SG rather than PF but he can become a great shooter with volume and rebounder, then he would be a very nice wing in the mold of a poor man's Keith Van Horn. Worth a roll of the dice in the lotto.
13) (form ) - Charlie Villanueva PF 6'11'' 232 21 C+ C+ D+ C C+ A
Analysis: Not sure what score a little and rebound a little is but notes say that he is solid at everything. The C defense is ugly and if that doesn't improve much, then he might be stuck as a reserve in this league. But overall, seems like a very interesting prospect.
14) (from ) - Marcin Gortat C 6'11'' 240 21 C+ C- C- C+ B- B
Analysis: Low ceiling but looks like he will be a solid backup big, perhaps even a starter. The fact that he can block/board/score is nice, question is how much can he end up doing of each of those. He's cool though.
15) (from ) - Ian Mahinmi C 6'11'' 262 19 C+ D+ C- B- C+ B
Analysis: In the middle of the first, I've got this young bigman from France. The fact that the notes praise his post defense and shotblocking blesses him to be a high pick which is why I've got him right in the middle of the first round. Feel like he could even go higher than this slot. Age 19 so should retain most of his potential through the first training camp. Worth camping his blocking/rebounding/strength and seeing what he becomes.
16) - Yaroslav Korlolev SF 6'9'' 203 18 C+ C- C- B+ C B
Analysis: The low-volume amazing defender of this draft is this 203 lb 6'9" 18 year old. The C rebounding looks solid for a wing and the the B+ defense looks really good for a rookie. The notes even blessed that B+ with blocking and stealing too! Feel like he can become the next Bruce Bowen but not expecting much more. But being a situational defensive player isn't the worst thing.
17) (from) - Martell Webster SF 6'7'' 230 19 C B+ D+ C C B
Analysis: Webster is very interesting. He does not have notes so we do not know much about him but being a 19-year old with B+ outside and C rebounding looks nice for a wing. The lack of defense probably stops him from being a starter but really what the question happens to be is his scoring volume. If it is good, then he can be a key reserve (possibly even a good starter especially if the defense develops). An enigma but highly intriguing and worth the risk here in the draft.
18) (from ) - Ronny Turiaf C 6'10'' 249 22 C+ C- D+ B- C+ B
Analysis: Turiaf's notes saying that he is a great post defender and has shotblocking ability is really nice to see. I think he could be a solid starting big or a really good backup PF/C. Time will tell.
19) (from ) - Rashad McCants SG 6'4'' 207 21 B- B- C- C D B
Analysis: McCants was a player who had no notes and the C defense and D rebounding does look ugly. But B- B- scoring for a rookie looks interesting. The lack of defense/rebounding likely makes him a backup SG/PG in this league but possibly a really good one. Is that worthy of a Top 20 pick? I would say hell yes in this draft.
20) (from ) - Chuck Hayes C 6'6'' 240 22 B- C- D+ C B- B
Analysis: The strength, the fact that he scores well inside, C- outside which is good for a guy who never or rarely shoots threes and B- rebounding makes him interesting. The notes also say that he is a great post defender. Might be like Scola without a threepoint shot which is solid. Obviously, he never becomes a star big but he can become a good enough big.
21) (from ) - Nate Robinson PG 5'9'' 180 21 B- C+ C C+ C B
Analysis: It is strange that I had two point guards going top two and then nothing throughout the rest of the Top 20. Feel like Nate will be the third PG taken in this draft due to the C rebounding and B- C+ offense. The notes however makes me question his ball-handling ability. If it is strong, then he will be a damn good player in this league. But, I honestly doubt it is making him likely a solid backup PG or spot starter type.
22) (from ) - Jason Maxiell PF 6'7'' 260 22 B D+ C- C+ C+ C
Analysis: A He has nice ratings for a rookie big man which makes me think he gets drafted in the first round. Already looks like an ok backup big and if the defense/rebounding develops, then he could be a nice starting one. Not sure if he goes this high or even in the first round but that B inside just looks so cool for a rookie.
23) (from ) - Channing Frye C 7'0'' 255 22 C A- D+ C+ C+ B
Analysis: Now I don't think Frye has much of a future in this league as a center but might be good as a backup wing. There are question marks about the volume and his defense seems to be quite bad but C+ rebounding (while the notes say it isn't good) is solid for a wing. A- outside as a rookie is great. If the defense can develop and he has some scoring volume, then he could be a solid starter. Otherwise, just a good backup wing. And that is ok.
24) (from ) - Gerald Green SG 6'6'' 205 19 C B+ C- C C B
Analysis: The notes praised his outside shooting especially from beyond the arc and also his handles but completely destroyed any hopes of him having the volume to become a great shooting guard or even a starting one. The lack of defense at C hurts as well for an SG. Really, where I feel like he has most value in the future is as a backup PG who can never start ever. The handles/shooting/rebounding is really nice at the position and he can provide a solid 10-15 minutes per game for any team in that role. That gives him some value which is nice this late in the draft.
25) (from ) - Raymond Felton PG 6'1'' 205 21 C C+ B- B- D+ B
Analysis: Felton could go higher than this slot but the notes really speak of him as just a solid backup or spot starter and not much else. That hurts his value but still good enough to be taken in the first round. Feel like the lack of enthusiasm in his notes causes him to drop. Might end up being a steal or at least good value. This is the last player with notes I have getting drafted.
26) (from ) - Francisco Garcia SG 6'7'' 195 24 C+ B C- C+ C- C
Analysis: The C+ B offense looks terrific for a rookie. He already looks like a decent backup guard and if he can improve a bit (particularly on defense), then perhaps a solid starter. The C- rebounding is fine or an SG and the C+ inside while looks cool is a question mark concerning his volume. I feel like he should have enough to be a solid backup at the very least.
27) - Jarrett Jack PG 6'3'' 200 22 C C+ B- C+ D+ B
Analysis: I believe Jack was a former Warrior. His ratings really don't look like much but he is a well known name and could end up becoming a decent backup or maybe even a starter. How he develops during his first two training camps should really define what he becomes in this league. Either way, worth a roll of the dice this late in the first round.
28) (from ) - C.J. Miles SF 6'6'' 220 18 C B+ D+ C D+ B
Analysis: Looks exactly like Martell Webster whom I put at 17th overall minus the rebounding. While Webster had a C which is terrific for a wing, Miles only has a D+ which can be solid depending on the ratings under the hood. If he has more scoring volume than Webster, then he certainly can be a steal. Just the lack of inside/defense/rebounding prevents him from being drafted high. Might get drafted higher than this slot but I doubt he goes too farther ahead.
29) (from ) - Cenk Akyol PG 6'6'' 195 18 C+ C+ C+ C C C
Analysis: He was an absolute beast in the previous BBS and being an 18-year old PG with C+ C+ offense is interesting. The C rebounding looks great too! Feel like that is just enough to sneak into the first round even ahead of a former Warrior in Kelenna Azubuike or a player with cool ratings like a Linas Kleiza. Sometimes, you just gotta roll the dice.
Round 2:
30) (form ) - Linas Kleiza PF 6'8'' 245 20 C+ C+ D+ C+ C+ B
31) (from ) - Kelenna Azubuike SG 6'5'' 220 22 C+ B C- C C C
32) - Andray Blatche C 6'11'' 235 19 C+ C- D+ B- C+ B
33) (from ) - Lawrence Roberts C 6'9'' 240 23 B D+ D+ C C+ C
34) - Ike Diogu PF 6'8'' 250 22 B- C D+ C C+ C
35) - Brandon Bass PF 6'8'' 250 20 B- C D+ C C+ B
36) (form ) - Alan Anderson SF 6'6'' 220 23 C+ B- C- B C- C
37) (from ) - Hakim Warrick PF 6'9'' 219 23 B- C C- C+ C B
38) - Martynas Andriuskevicius C 7'2'' 240 19 B- C D+ C C+ C
39) (from ) - Marcelo Huertas PG 6'3'' 200 22 C C+ B C+ D+ B
40) (from ) - Sean May PF 6'9'' 266 21 B- C- D C C+ C
41) (from ) - Johan Petro C 7'0'' 247 19 C+ C- D+ B- C+ C
42) (from ) - Will Bynum PG 6'0'' 185 22 C+ B- C+ C+ C- B
43) (from ) - Joey Graham SF 6'7'' 225 23 B- C C- B C B
44) - Mickael Gelabale SF 6'7'' 215 22 C B C- B- C C
45) (from ) - Stephen Graham SF 6'6'' 215 23 C+ C+ C- B- C B
46) - Jawad Williams SF 6'9'' 218 22 C+ C+ B- B- C C
47) - Ronnie Price PG 6'2'' 190 22 C C C+ B C- C
48) (from ) - Julius Hodge SG 6'7'' 210 22 C+ C+ C+ C+ C C
49) (from ) - John Lucas III PG 5'11'' 166 23 C C+ C+ B D+ C
50) (from ) - Ricky Sanchez PF 6'11'' 230 18 B- C- D C C B
51) (from ) - Shavlik Randolph PF 6'10'' 240 22 C+ D+ C- C+ B- C
52) (from ) - Wayne Simien PF 6'9'' 255 22 C+ C D+ C+ C+ C
53) - Antoine Wright SF 6'7'' 210 21 C+ B- C- C+ C C
54) (from ) - Daniel Ewing PG 6'3'' 185 22 C C+ C+ C+ C- C
55) (from ) - Roko Ukic PG 6'5'' 183 21 C C+ C+ C+ C- C
56) - Dijon Thompson SF 6'7'' 195 22 C B C- C- C- C
57) (from ) - Von Wafer SG 6'5'' 210 20 C+ C+ C C C C
58) (from ) - Travis Diener PG 6'1'' 175 23 C- B- C+ C+ D+ C
Analysis: Mr. Irrelevant is this strange point guard with C- inside. Something about the weird ratings makes you think that perhaps he might just be a nice player under the hood. Low risk, solid reward. Why not?
