I think NBA allows 7 years out? Maybe 8. True but NBA also makes sure you have at least one pick once every two years (though Nets sadly found a way to circumvent that setting them back a bit lol) I literally mentioned this in the post prior

It is kinda like what the Brooklyn Nets did to circumvent the consecutive picks rule in the KG/Pierce trade or what the Lakers did in the Nash trade. Everyone knew chances of those protections being met were very slim (like top 2 protected or some shit?)

No idea what the Lakers trade was, but the Nets definitely did not trade consecutive picks for KG Pierce

And I was wrong about the Nash deal as well. Yeah no team has really tried to circumvent the rule in the NBA.

Rule circumvention happens a lot in the nba
Teams trade top 55 protected 2nd round picks that are not intended to be conveyed

Rule circumvention happens a lot in the nba Teams trade top 55 protected 2nd round picks that are not intended to be conveyed That's fine. My point is that deals like this aren't really protections, the intent is to give an additional pick further out that normally allowed. Like I said, it's not really a big deal to me, it just seems like it goes against the spirit of the no further than 3 years out rule. If Spencer is cool with it, which he obviously is since this is the third time now, then it's whatever. I was just saying I didn't like it on principle. Like habes said, what's to stop me from trading my 07 1st with a condition of if this pick isn't top 3, then X team also gets my 08, 09, 10 1st round picks. If the intent of adding a pick one year further than allowed by rules is cool, why not two or three? It was a weird thing I've never seen someone do in FBB with rules like this in place, and the intention behind it was clearly to provide an additional asset beyond the scope of the rules. Sure it had a condition to it, but the idea behind the condition was that it was going to be met and fulfilled.

That Nuggets '06 might even end up being a Top 10 pick so who knows if he'll get the '08.
