Boston Celtics: B-
Bogut pick was the saving grace of a so-so offseason. Gerald Green looked DOA, and camping his rebounding didn’t help. Livingston for Walker was good value, though Livi looks like limited a la the Pacce Man. Pierce should be off this roster for rebuild-friendly assets, so Brian gets docked for keeping him.Miami Heat: B-
Didn’t need to replace PJ, though failing to do so means ZBo’s back at PF. Houston trade was decent, though I think Kobe’s heading for a rebuild next season. Entered the offseason a really good team held back by awful PGs; left it the same.New Jersey Nets: C
Added nothing in the draft or in FA. Guessing there were missed opportunities along the way. Greeme’s carrying a lot of players who’ll harm the tank but won’t contribute much on the other side of it. Exception: Tony Allen, who looks awesome. Likely exception: C+/A scoring Ben Gordon. Unlikely exception: Sebastian Telfair, who sucks but could get there with potential. Dump the rest!New York Knicks: C
Not sure what’s going on here. Had a bad draft and the AI deal left them pretty thin on assets. Skillz will make something out of this team, of course, but this wasn’t an inspiring offseason. Got an excellent TC out of Anderson Varejao, at least.Orlando Magic: B+
Four lottos is hard to blow, and Trap did a solid job with them. I try not to lean too much on TCs in evaluating offseasons, but that seems pointless here. David Lee’s notes had him as a day 1 starter, but he regressed inside and fell to C scouted potential. Still think he’ll be highly productive. Amir had great notes but stagnated in TC. Still think there’s a good third big in there. I thought Monta looked atrocious, but I can’t nitpick taking a Warrior legend who’s exploded in prior versions of BBS—and it looks like he’s primed to do the same here. The Marvin pick smelled. What was intriguing here beyond the lack of notes? Really bright future in Orlando, nevertheless.Philadelphia 76ers: C
Yao didn’t become the stud Steve needed him to be, and there’s just not a lot to work with here. Dally is a viable center, though, so here’s my prescription. Find the best possible 2 for 1 for Yao now as a trial run to avoid the rebuild. Rebuild if it doesn’t work. Not much to say about their offseason. I think they got slightly better.Washington Wizards: C
Didn’t do anything. What’s to say. JAH has a nice team and there was no obvious move, but I can't grade him any better for istting
Chicago Bulls: A+
Turned a fine situation into an incredible one. Signed Tony Parker in FA. Drafted Lou and got him from C+/B+ to B/A scoring and day 1 superstar status. Added the ultra-durable, high-equity Eddie Griffin in the frontcourt. League’s best offseason by a mile.Atlanta Hawks: A-
Nothing to for their draft or offseason beyond the Andrew Bynum pick, but good lord. B+/B-/B center with A potential at 18. CP3 is the best player in the draft, to be sure, but Bynum looks like the easy #2 in a post-TC redraft. A- to Footman for landing his franchise player.New Orleans Hornets: C
Reacquired his pick at the expense of his contender. Still assembled a nice starting five, but this is a notch below last season’s team, and a rebuild is apparently looming. Nice TC for Memo, but he won’t stay on the floor or shoot threes at center.Cleveland Cavaliers: C
Another contender that sat on its hands. Needed to seek out two good pieces for KVH and try to retool his way to a legit point guard. Going where without one.Detroit Pistons: C
Capped out with a full roster, so not much to say here. Devin Harris had a nice TC. I think Galo is content to ride out Duncan and enjoy the 50+ win seasons. Can’t quibble with that, but there’s not much he’ll be able to do to improve short of flipping Harris+bad salary for a veteran upgrade. Kidd?Indiana Pacers: C-
You know it’s bad when you’re hyping Luther Head. Really uninspiring draft. Ariza appears to have improved to viability or more, and Josh Smith’s developing solidly enough, but this looks like a three-year rebuild, and I don’t know if Sargo has the patience for one. (I certainly don’t.)Milwaukee Bucks: B
Andy unloaded Grant Hill for a pick that looks late lotto or better, depending on what the next Clippers GM wants to do. Also cleared a ton of cap, acquired picks, and added promising youth (Webster, possibly Diaw). But he should be working OT to find something Mark will deal the Bucks 07 for. No idea if he’s doing that or not, but that’s the missing ingredient from his offseason.Toronto Raptors: D+
Let’s not pretend Game—or anyone here—is running the numbers to determine that the hierarchy in Eddie Griffin outcomes was (1) keeping him for six year; (2) losing him; and (3) keeping him for seven years. Even if he didn’t like Eddie, he could’ve flipped him for value, as Mark showed. A massive mistake. Game trolled about Eddie dropping from A- to B+ defense, which he’s done before, and which is meaningless. Joke’s on him!Pollard is fine at PF, though, and the Raps should be in the 46 win range.
