Welcome to the 6th annual JR’s Roundtable. Today we have some first time guests on the show and we are very excited to hear their opinions on the state of the league.
1. So I was gone for about 2 to 3 weeks. I see a lot of new names, well I think some joined when I was hurting. Anyways what should I know about the last 2 to 3 weeks or so that I missed?
Sargo - It's been a wild 2-3 weeks man! You did miss a lot, but we missed you here as well! I'm glad to see you doing better and putting all this shit in the rearview mirror. Anyways, yah, we have some new GMs. Frangie left and Chipper was CY'd/left. I do wish you were here a few weeks ago though, because Tim Duncan would probably be playing alongside LeBron James right now.
NYBombers - Well first off, welcome back! Let’s see. The Knicks have had the whole league swing on by. Tim Duncan still isn’t a winner. Parker bounced. Spencer killed Shaq’s value something serious. Clippers and Bucks have a new GM (Hi!). Spencer set the Hawks lotto luck to zero.
Stevie B - Honestly, in a way, you really didn’t miss much. Ashes team was super unbeatable as predicted. Chip was a disaster during his CY year. For you, that season was all about growth and more about next year’s run. If you were going to miss a season, that was the one. In saying all of that, I’m sure you would prefer to not miss time to continue to go value hunting with your group in future seasons. Glad to hear things are well now, and happy to have my CULO brother back in the swing of things now.
Ahsan - Well, The Unbearables left right before the season due to personal issues and was replaced by nybombers3 who has been an outstanding addition to the league. frangie quit due to personal reasons and was replaced by Outlawz . jeb crushed his CY after getting Zo while manasrai failed to win 42 or make playoffs for the third straight year putting him in CY (but looks like he is going to make it, we're all wishing the best for him). I made a gamble to get Tony Parker and lost after he walked in FA putting me in a shit situation and I've become the laughing stock but it's all good because I'm laughing with everyone so we all laughing with me instead of at me. Aside from that, not much else. We are very happy to have you back. We all love you and we all missed you and have been praying for you and will continue to pray for you.
2. Player movement is always a topic of discussion and there has been no shortage of that already this season. What was the worst trade so far since the beginning of the season, after training camp?
Sargo - The worst trade(s) has to be the moves that covid and the Denver Nuggets made. I'm not sure what he is doing! He makes one rebuild trade, then makes a win now trade, then a rebuild trade, then a win now trade. It makes my head spin. Does he even have his picks? I don't think so! Ah, bad. But at least he has Buike and Granger to build around now. That's a solid young wing tandem.
NYBombers - I don’t really see anything crazy thus far. The latest Rockets deal was a tough one though. I hope it works out for them but losing Parker has really hurt them. Whoever ends up with Emmett will be happy with him. I don’t really like Artest that much either.
Stevie B - My G-Rob trade wasn’t particularly great, but I’m trying to start moving towards breaking down contracts and getting out of my cap situation slowly. Ahsan just made a pretty bad trade lol. Not sure what he was trying to accomplish, but I guess sometimes Skillz can sweet talk the best of them. I’m really not understanding what Royal is doing with his set of moves. It’s just been super bizarre because I think he’s a good GM, but his situation is really less than desirable right this minute.
Ahsan - Royal traded Steve Nash for Danny Granger which isn't but but when you realize that he traded ALLEN IVERSON for Steve Nash, it looks horrible. So yeah, Royal doing Royal things basically.
3. So the 2005 draft seemed to be top heavy with a few steals thrown in there. Any guys you thought fell too far? How about guys that were reaches?
Sargo - Well, our draft sucked. We have 3 top 14 picks and our guys look EH. Nate Robinson looks hot and fell far, but we ended up getting him anyways via trade. Buike looks like one of the major steals of this draft though for the Denver Nuggets. Low turnover, high % guy.
NYBombers - I thought taking Fran at 10 was tough. I get it, at that point, it wasn’t a bad value pick but let’s be honest. He was going to bust. We all knew it. Marvin Williams was another reach. Chuck Hayes was a guy I did expect to go higher. Same with Azubuike. Actually, I was hoping to land back in the early 2nd round for him, Marty, Warrick, Graham or Jawad. Sadly, got none. I’m sure my guys were thought of as reaches and I won’t lie it felt like it but with this roster I had to try for homeruns. Hopefully they workout. The potential to start eventual 6’9 Cenk at PG would be nice.
Stevie B - Steal: Kelenna Azubuike...he looks really nice for a 2nd round pick. Will be a nice bench piece on a contending roster.
Reach: Fran Vasquez...frankly not a fan and there were better guys for the taking. Nate being one of them.
Ahsan - Kelenna Azulbuike of the Nuggets looks sick. Obviously Chris Paul is a beast. To be honest, it's too early to tell but I just picked up Chuck Hayes who defends the post admirably, very strong, B rebounding and B inside so that should be some fun stuff. Time will tell, it's very early but there were quite a lot of fun players.
4. Keeping the topic on drafts, the 2006 draft seems to be ass cheeks, but we know its FBB and players will develop into studs that aren’t supposed to be. Give me a few names that you are looking forward to having in the league from this draft and why.
Sargo - Brandon Roy - why not? great player until the knee injuries.
Marcus Williams - love UCONN guys and Williams was one of my favorite huskies ever.
NYBombers - Brandon Roy – Obvious why. Wouldn’t shock me if he comes out looking great with B potential.
Aldridge/Milsap – The league can use more young, solid big men overall.
Andrea Bargs – I’d be interested to see if Spencer goes the “Fran” route with him and busts him just because. He would be another and even more unique big man.
Ronaldo Balkman – Knicks bias, yes. That and he was solid on D.
Rondo – Lowry is also here but I’m way more interested to see what Spencer does with Rondo.
Guillermo Diaz – I remember him being a stud in one of these league back in the day. Yeah, that’s really it.
Stevie B - Brandon Roy for sure...he’s going to be a really fun 2 guard in this league. Can see him doing 25/5/5. Lowry is going to be really good I think as well. He typically translates really well in FBB. LMA won’t be that great of a piece here. Low stocks and if he does turn it over, then it’s not a good mix. Will prob score and rebound at a high rate tho.
Ahsan - Here's the thing about that draft, the very top has 2-3 guys who will be franchise players (Roy, Aldridge and maybe Lowry). There are a lot of very nice role players such as Rudy Gay, Rajon Rondo, Paul Millsap, P.J. Tucker, Andrea Barganani, J.J. Redick, etc. But Spencer is so good at making fun and interesting players to where I feel like it will end up being a good draft. Some random Euro like Lior Eliyahu may be good or some great college player such as Adam Morrison might be good. I'm excited for the draft even though I don't have a pick. Will try to pick one up.
5. Warriors are the only team in CY, they are sitting at 9-5 after 25 days, are they a lock to make CY? Why or why not.
Sargo - A lock? No. The West is VERY good. They have the best team of the last 4 CY teams, but the West being so strong makes this tough. I do expect them to make it though. I hope they do!
NYBombers - While it’s always tough to call anyone a lock to make their CY, I think they’ll be fine. In two of their losses, Nash missed the game and those were very winnable games. Not to mention, all they have to do is hit 42 wins. I don’t see that many teams outside of the playoffs that will bump them off. The LA teams are solid but neither are super talented. Half the Lakers roster are guards and the Clippers have a tough group of Shaq and Kidd. I do wish the Warriors had better big men overall but if need be they do have the assets to acquire better players up there.
Stevie B - Yes. They’ll at least win 42 games and that’s all that matters. If they had to make the playoffs, then this would be interesting. I still think they’ll do that, but Marion and Walker are terrible fits on their roster with K-Mart and Nash. You have 2 guys that thrive in a balanced/inside look, and 2 guys that thrive in an outside focus. Manas still needs to make moves to improve the overall group, but I think they are a lock to make the CY.
Ahsan - I think they will but I feel like it will be close. Their team is good but the West is so stacked. Fully expecting Sacramento, Dallas, San Antonio, Portland to be playoff locks. Then you have 3 seeds in which Utah, the Lakers, the Clippers, Timberwolves will be fighting the Nuggets for. The West has one team which is actually tanking and that's the Supersonics. While my Rockets and Royal's Nuggets look like trash, we are actually trying to win as many games as we possibly can since we don't have our pick. The conference is deep and it will be close but I think they get in because they do have a nice team.
6. So some GMs here have made a bad series of moves, I won’t name names, but who do you think is the next GM or GMs that get CY’d? Please explain.
Sargo - I don't see any teams really in trouble right now, but that can change over the next year. The Nuggets are set up ok with Granger and Buike, so they SHOULD be ok. But we will see.
NYBombers - Man, I’ve stayed away from commenting on trades just because I would prefer not to shit on people and my moves aren’t perfect either. That said, the Grizzlies are in a tough spot. I think their CY is next year and they don’t really have a ton of outstanding assets. Deron looks good obviously but Dwight is shaky. Big Z is ok but he’s going to be older and likely decrease next year. Graham is ok but that’s it. Past that, I don’t see much as far as players go. They have a 4 1st’s this year but aside from their own, none are great. They will have a lot of cap and that should help. Hopefully they can steal someone. Their biggest obstacle is their conference. Currently, the 10th seed is over .500. It’s strong and I don’t see that changing much next year. I hope they make it.
Stevie B - Ashan and Royal are the top 2 imo. I feel like Royal will find a way to navigate out of the CY year, and yet I have no idea how because that roster is just not appealing and he’s already in year 2 of the process. Ashan is prob my top choice, and I hope I’m wrong...but today’s move made little sense for him to do. He doesn’t have his pick this year. I feel like it’s going to be really tough for him to navigate through this process. I know Erbes is being talked about, and he’ll be entering his CY next year, but he has the pieces to win at least 42 next year imo.
Ahsan - It seems like Memphis will be entering their CY next season but he has a lot of talent so I feel like he makes it. The season after that, it could potentially be Denver, Orlando and Atlanta. I honestly think one of those guys does get CYed. Royal is very active and constantly making moves so he'll find a way to get through. As far as Footy and Amar goes, they need to hit big in the draft/FA these next two seasons or else they may be screwed. Love both of them so hoping they make it but I'm not sure. My team is a hot mess BUT I reset last season so I've got enough time to get this together.
7. That podcast with Royal and Ahsan was pretty good, I mean their takes kind of sucked. It was funny and entertaining. Over an hour seems overkill to me. Did you guys enjoy it? Watch the whole video? Would you guys consider doing a podcast in the near future?
Sargo - I watched maybe 30 min of it and it had some laughs. I think 10-15 min is a good length, but an hour was crazy. Good for them for doing that though. Yes, I would do a podcast in the future.
NYBombers - I didn’t hear the whole thing but have been doing it in bits and pieces. I’m not even mad at it being an hour. I’m not really a person that would be able to sit and do that so I respect the hell out of anyone that can. From what I’ve heard so far it’s good. They did a great job and should definitely do more. Me personally, I’m good with articles. Ain’t nobody trying to hear my voice.
Stevie B - I wasn’t able to watch the whole thing yet, but I thought it was good from what I was able to hear! I do think 70+ minutes is too much, and shouldn’t be the expectation of how long a podcast should be going forward...but I don’t like criticizing league content. I commend those guys for doing it! Skillz and myself have done podcasts in our other league and we typically won’t go longer than 40 minutes and that’s with about 4-5 of us on. But yeah, I would do a podcast with anybody. I think it’s fun, and I think if you make it structured or geared towards a specific topic (trade deadline, TC, playoff preview, etc.), then it will only enhance this tremendous league even more! Good job, Ashan and Royal!
Ahsan - To be honest, we didn't even realize how long it was until after he started to export. We were just talking and having fun. Will probably do more because it was just a great time.
8. So there are many great players in this league, some younger some older. If we did a creation draft with the players in the league today who would be the first pick in the draft?
Sargo - You asked this question with the hopes that LeBron would be the answer by us. Yes, LeBron should be the #1 player taken. I'm not sure his home is at PG, but he looks unreal otherwise.
*Editors note I think Kobe should still go first.
NYBombers - I would expect either Duncan, Kobe or LeBron to go first. With Duncan or Kobe you should be able to build a good team with them from the bat. With LeBron, you can build for now and the future. LeBron also gives you the flexibility of starting him at various positions and building like that. After those three, honorable mentions to Billups (if you were trying to win) or CP3 (if you were trying to tank in the beginning).
Stevie B - Your boy LeBron James would be. I think Kobe is a really close 2nd. LeBron doing almost 30/10/10 is just absurd. He still has A potential so he’ll even be better moving forward. I don’t even give a flying fuck about his 4 turnovers per game lollllll
Ahsan - It has to be Duncan right? 5 seasons, 5 MVPs, been in the playoffs every season despite lacking an elite level supporting cast. Hoping galo can get the right guys around him because I want to see what he can do on a real team.
9. What is your favorite part about this league?
Sargo - The banter and activity. I've always looked for a league with this type of activity and QUALITY GMs. That combination is impossible to find, but Spencer has made it a reality. I'm grateful!
NYBombers - The activity has always been great in any of the BBS leagues and it’s nice to see that it has not changed this time around. Spencer has also always been consistent. He does a lot for the league overall and it’s always appreciated. Watching skillz hype up his entire roster then trade them all away and still win games then do it all again is always funny to me. Funny but impressive.
Stevie B - The comradery. I think you instantly become cool with certain people in the league, and it’s just a fun atmosphere overall. The competitiveness is truly the best thing about the league if you ask most, but I do enjoy chatting with you all. It’s a fun experience! I just need to get my ass in gear, fellas!
Ahsan - Spencer. He is as consistent as they get, his file is great, his drafts are great. This is my third BBS and everytime, it has been my #1 league. When I saw the email about BBS2020, I signed up right away and was excited. So far, it is living up to and exceeing expectations.
10. The Hornets are 11-1 will they keep this up and end up with the best record in the league? Or was it because of a cupcake schedule?
Sargo - They are loaded and I do not see them slowing down any more. There are no real holes on their team. They look the part for sure. It's them or the Knicks to come out of the East this year IMO.
NYBombers - I don’t see them holding on to the best record in the league but I can see them winning the East. I thought the Hornets would be pretty good this year and nobody in the East is really looks to be up there. The Knicks are hard to judge based on the jugging act. The Heat I thought had a shot but injuries are really hurting that team. I thought the Bulls were poised to make big moves but I guess they decided to chill. So yeah, I can see winning the East. Best record will likely go to the Kings again.
Stevie B - Wow! I just realized my 76ers are the only team to beat the Hornets! Hilarious stuff! Anyway, Hornets are legit good...they could end up with the best record in the league just because the East is simply not strong...however, I still think the Kings will end up with the best record in the league. They are just that damn good...even in the very tough western conference.
Ahsan - His team is forreal. AI is elite, Morlende is the perfect PG for a team filled with scoring like them as they have guys like Grant Hill, Chris Webber, Mehmet Okur. Their frontcourt depth is incredible. I said on the podcast that I felt like they had the best team in the East and I stand by that. Though I do expect the Knicks to make a ton of moves and end up with the better team.
11. OK, now lets talk about real life a little. How do you think the NFL, MLB, NHL and NBA are handling this Covid stuff individually?
Sargo - NBA gets an A+ for now. So does the NHL I think. MLB did OK, the CBA thing fucked things up, but the NFL sucks. They had the luxury of planning that the other leagues didn't. Why are they not in a bubble? If we do not have football this year, I'll have a breakdown.
NYBombers - It’s never going to be perfect but the NBA has done the best job thus far. The bubble thing, should work as long as everyone is accepting of doing it. That, of course, won’t always be the case sadly. The MLB basically leaving it up to the players/teams is likely the biggest test for athletes overall. One player does the wrong thing and it can bring down the entire spot, which was already struggling to start. The NFL is like a train. They’ll just chug along acting like COVID isn’t around. Gotta respect the balls on them. I’d be shocked if fans were truly let in.
Stevie B - Basketball and Hockey are handling it the best. The bubble has to be a thing or otherwise I’m not sure how you contain it. Baseball is going to have players get it during the traveling process and what not. Soto just got it today ffs...baseball has a pretty poor plan. Football, it’s too early to tell...but it seems like they will be going the traveling route and it’s just not ideal given these times.
Ahsan - The NBA seems to have it together and I fully expect other sports leagues to do something similar to how they have been. They are all stuck in an enclosed area where everybody is virus free and that is likely the only way to do it. Will be interesting to see games with no fans but I'm glad that we are getting games.
12. Last question, if the NFL allows fans, would you attend games and wear the masks or stay at home and watch on your tele?
Sargo - STAY HOME. Who cares. I'd rather not attend games and watch on TV than have no football at all. STAY THE FUCK HOME IDIOTS.
NYBombers - I’ve actually never been to an NFL game. I’ve tailgated twice but never actually went in. While I would love to go, I don’t feel comfortable going out to the stores yet, forget entering a stadium. I feel especially cautious since I have a newborn baby at home. Besides, I’m good watching the games at home. Make some wings, put out some chips, drink some beer and let the game blast on my speakers. I’m good with it. Like a Superbowl party, just every Sunday.
Stevie B - I typically think football is just better watching at home with friends or watching at a bar with friends so for me this is an easy decision. Has nothing to do with me being fearful of the virus, but I think it’s so much better watching it on a television with friends and family.
Ahsan - Not worth getting the virus so I'll be watching from home. I'm a Niners fan living in Texas so it wasn't like I was really able to go see my team play anyways.
13. OK ask me some questions!!!
Sargo - How did you persevere the last few weeks and survive? God bless my man. NO CULO FOR WEEKS OOF.
JR – Honestly I survived because of the people I have around me. I am a person who doesn’t ask for help and an introvert for the most part. Not to mention my FBB family. Big shoutout to you Royal Go Niners and GAME yall helped me a lot. No visitors for 13 days was tough man. As far as the culo tha wasn’t on my mind but I did get some the day I got out lol. Put me right to sleep. No I didn’t eat the ass, just didn’t have enough energy.
NYBombers – So Ive heard about your eating habits. Taking it a bit further, Footy has admitted that he enjoys being dumed on. Thoughts on that one?
JR – Well I don’t know if you heard I keep wet wipes in my trunk of my car and the top drawer of my dresser just in case it isn’t ready to eat. With that being said I don’t want shit on me. I clean what I eat first just like the meat I am going to cook. That my friend is a bit too far for me.
Stevie B - Was this the worst pain you were ever in? My one co-worker has to get 6 teeth taken out (all 4 wisdom and 2 molars) and he is stressing out lol...but it’s also his fault for not taking care of his teeth, too. Glad to have ya back, buddy!
JR – This was by far the worst pain I have ever felt in my life. I tore my ACL have had 3 total surgeries on my left knee as well. Also fractured my ankle after my second season in college. And none of that comes close to the pain I was enduring. And thanks im glad to be back and healthy!
Ahsan – Obvioously Katya is your favorite IG THOT, but who is second?
JR – This might be the hardest question I’ve encountered from these RT’s. Its tough man I like so many, MissCarrie is so sexy, and I don’t like natural blondes like that. MissBuscemi’s body is out of this world as well and is pretty as well. Then you have Caami who is super thick and natural. I cant forget Juju either man her ass isn’t wild like the others but her lips would look lovely around my dick, HUE. But if I had to choose it would be MissBuscemi for me. I didn’t mention a lot of bad THOTs, but these might be top 5. I did forget Heyitsdonny though sheesh!!!
