Welcome back to the last edition of Hot Takes for this season. Today I have JR and Stevie B with me to discuss some happenings around the league during this trade deadline. For some it was a sucessful deadline. For others, well, some of ya'll had to do better then good enough. Sometimes the good trades go, if you wait too long. Remember, make the most out of tonight and worry about it all tomorrow. Ok enough of that. Let's get to it.
1. Now that the Hawks reset, they should be looking to compete instead of staying still with their youth
Stevie B - Lukewarm Take: I think Footy can go a bunch of different ways...but that Andre Miller contract will make things difficult. He can say it until he is blue in the face...BUT that contract for Andre Miller isn’t good. Bottom line...and that will be a problem going forward in shaping a title contending team. He’s got a really nice roster currently...but I’m still not that big of a believer in Barea who I think will get crushed against any elite PG in a playoff series.
nybombers3 - COLD TAKE - Obviously making a deal this late would be tough but this coming off season, the Hawks should be looking to make big moves. They need to dump Dre ASAP and see what's out there. Next year will be a big selling off season so take advantage.
2. The Magic should still be looking to make one more big move
Stevie B - Assuming this was a question that was formulated before the deadline but...freezing cold take: Amar was never proactive and never ever addressed his depth. If J Craw, AI, and Ben were healthy the entire year...he would’ve made it, but it still would’ve been a close call. He should’ve been more aware and addressed it. Now, barring a miracle, his BBS run is coming to an end.
nybombers3 - COLD TAKE. You hate to see it. A big trade and then a great sim. That trade, while obviously helpful, didn't completely get rid of the issues they have. Using LJ's expiring, see what's available. Maybe break up Big Ben's deal? idk but don't sit because one injury will bring them back down.
3. The biggest winners from the deadline are the Knicks since they are now the best team in the East
Stevie B - Cold take: The Bulls are clearly the best team in the East. BUT the Knicks will certainly be in the mix as long as they are healthy. As we all know, the playoffs are typically a crapshoot and the best rarely wins.
nybombers3 - COLD TAKE KINDA - I mean they are the winners. As per usual, skillz makes many moves but they end up better then when they started. Better then the Bulls is a strech.
4. The biggest losers from the deadline are the Wolves since they haven't done anything worthwhile
Stevie B - Freezing cold take: Jeb accomplished a Mike Bibby trade and that was it. Pretty shitty. He’s CLEARLY asking for way too much with Okur or he’s simply not even getting any interest there. If it’s the latter, yikes...as far as Odom goes, he’s pretty much untradeable. Jeb could’ve gotten out of those contracts and helped his projected draft position.
nybombers3 - COLD TAKE - Yup. We've been down this road but they gotta do something. Good, bad or inbetween. Bibby was a very good move but nothing after hurts. Ther assets won't be getting any better. Calling it now. Wolves land a top 3 pick. Hopefully that gets some movement started.
5. The biggest misfire from the deadline came in the Raptors trading their pick for Shaq
Stevie B - Cold take: Now, if Game can somehow hit 42 wins...well boy oh boy it worked out. However, he could’ve done much better than an aging Shaq who will turn 36 years old and get another year worse.
nybombers3 - COLD TAKE - I haven't followed the Raptors situation much but not sure why they didn't just tank this year with the same roster. A top pick should give them more flexability then Shaq.
6. Westbrook should spend the majority of his career as a super sub
Stevie B - Semi-hot take: I think if a team can properly camp him, he can still be a massive advantage at PG because of his rebounding edge. Obviously those handles will have to be +8...but I think it’s do-able. In saying all of that, he might turn out to be a disaster there at PG so it’s certainly a risk in drafting him #1 overall.
nybombers3 - SLIGHTLY COLD TAKE - Majority is a broad term so for me. I think eventually he'll end up playing the super sub role but in the beginning he'll start at PG and put up crazy triple doubles while leading the league in tpg.
7. Rose should go 1st overall
Stevie B - Freezing cold take: Rose, to me, is the clear-cut number 1 pick. He’ll translate incredibly well here in BBS and will no doubt be an absolute stud in this league.
nybombers3 - COLD TAKE - So yeah, going back to the prior question, I'm not taking a super sub 1st. I think Rose will be great either way. Play wouldn't stop complaining to Spencer if he isn't.
8. OJ Mayo should be the top swing taken (Westbrook aside)
Stevie B - Semi-hot take: I have a pretty good feeling about OJ Mayo translating well here, but I think I’d take Galo over him so I don’t think he should be the top wing taken in this particular draft.
nybombers3 - COLD TAKE - I'd take Mayo over any other swing. Gallo would be the only possible oppo but even then, I feel OJ will end up being the better player.
9. People are underrating Kevin Love
Stevie B - Cold take: Love will be awesome here and worst case he will be a nasty backup 3-4-5 in BBS. He’s clearly a top 3 pick in this draft IMO.
nybombers3 - COLD TAKE - He'll be one of those ugly ratings but solid numbers guys. Honestly I think how good Love ends up being depends on who drafts him and where they camp him at.
10. Should anyone be allowed to bring together Westbrook and Love
Stevie B - Sure? Why not? If Spence is making this a thing...who cares. I don’t really get how this is a take.
nybombers3 - COLD TAKE - I say let someone do it. Love at SF? Westbrook at SF? Go for it.
BONUS
Be skillz for a sec. What is a trade that NEEDS TO happen this offseason.
JR - This is an easy one.

Jerome Moiso
Hawks 09 1st

Caron Butler
Chris Bosh
Stevie B - Roy to Philly. I'll leave it at that!
nybombers3 - Dirk to HOU for their pick/other assets/fillers. Also expecting a LMA to Dallas move. Magic trading away GWall and the Wolves trading needs to happen.
