Is it though? LSU is the only P5 school in a state RICH with football talent (kinda like Ohio State in Ohio). It's a dream school for many kids in Louisiana+East Texas. Look at the amount of NFL talent they regularly produce especially in the secondary, receivers and o-line. Not like Nick Saban or Les Miles had strong ties to the Southeast/East Texas/State of Louisiana prior to taking the LSU job. I honestly believe that Kelly has done all he can do with Notre Dame, just can't seem to win that highly coveted National Championship. LSU is a school whose last 3 coaches (Orgeron, Miles, Saban) have all won titles. It's really about whom he hires as his assistants, needs guys with strong ties to the region. Time will tell but Kelly is a great recruiter and LSU has a ton of advantages when it comes to recruiting the type of talent it takes to win a title. Speaking of Louisiana, think the Ragin Cajuns should go hard at Ed Orgeron now that Napier is gone. |

As a Notre Dame fan- I'm kinda sad because he was a great coach.
I'm mostly thrilled because he's a giant asshole. I've wanted him gone for about 10 years- ever since Declan Sullivan died.

I'm sure Kelly himself felt terrible for what happened to that kid... Notre Dame was listed at fault for the accident, and the kid had expressed reservations about going up in the wind. Kelly decided to have outdoor practice that day and wanted someone up on the lift. They were unaware of how the wind speeds would affect the lift and would topple it over. I'm sure he felt bad at the immediate moment but he should have resigned then and there. He didn't and it eventually all got swept under the rug. |

But to act like Kelly knew that would happen and let it happen sounds crazy to me. The defensive coordinator had made a remark that the wind was a "hurricane" force wind. And that happens in South Bend from time to time. There had been wind that whole week- they should have practiced indoors that day and/or not used the lift. Kelly has to have everything his way so it was "practice outside with the video from above". Sullivan himself had tweeted out "this is terrifying" minutes before the lift had fallen. |
