With the 2017 draft in the books we are closing in on “real world” basketball and should be there in about 3 months given the pace of the league. What would you like to see done with future drafts? If we use players currently in college/high school how far out is reasonable before turning to fake players?
nybombers3 I would like to look right into fake players. I would assume this next coming draft would be the last one with college guys so maybe Spencer can make it a big one and bring in some HS guys he wants in as well. After that though, let’s go into the fake players. The idea of fake players is so interesting and would help extend the life of the league IMO.
the original michael I think we should stop in 2023. This would allow us to stop in the Emoni Bates, Victor Wembanyama, Bronny James draft...then go to fakes. Fine with me. Scouting 15, 16 year olds is weird. But Bates, Victor and crew are phenoms already so WHATEVER.
Braz At first i was pretty anti fake players but as the league and community have grown on me I become more for it. I think it would be cool to go Retro but build those players to more of a modern NBA scale. Like in theory they had no 3 point line but some guys coulda balled. wouldnt want every player coming in like a dinosaur.
hf I would like to do maybe 1-2 years of high school/ college players then go into the fake players. Scouting high schoolers is weird and is basically just a fake player when you think about it lol
autumn harold I like Spence’s plan of going through 2020 and doing one more draft to throw in real prospects from future classes we don’t reach. I wish we could do a do-over year where Spence picks 15 or however many guys who didn’t pan out as planned here, remakes them, and fills the class out with fake. Spencer just a thought. Can’t wait for fakes though.
On the topic of the league future - things are starting to look much better covid wise and I can definitely see a future around the June timeframe where activity decreases significantly. What are your hopes and plans for the league going forward?
nybombers3 I know for me personally, I won’t be inside of a classroom till September at the earliest. That said, yeah I can see the league slowing down some beginning in June. I hope by that time fake players would be in, storylines can be written for them and that would help hold the interest for dudes. It’s tough though. If you don’t have the time, can’t do anything about that.
the original michael I hope the league lasts forever. I initially wanted it to last just to get me through covid, but why not last THROUGH covid now? It doesn't need to be as active as April, May 2020 but it be still be a great league at even 50% that. Keep it going spence! Don't stop, won't stop!
Braz I plan to ride it till a normal world and walk away but I say that with positive intentions to give this time to something else. For now I am super passionate about this even if its a silly hobby. Not many other things that give the same social interaction with covid restrictions. Will be hard to walk away so prob wont.
hf Honestly think everything will run normal. Sure we may have days where we get no sim, but I’m hoping everyone just enjoys the community that we keep it going. Love you guys.
autumn harold I feel like this question pops every month or two. I don’t think many of us will be back in person at work/school before late this year, so I don’t know what June will change. Cases were way down last summer and the league thrived. IDK. I love the idea of having BBS as a distraction when I’m back in an office. This league is fun. Spence is a mensch and a beast. Let’s keep simming until the wheels fall off.
What are your thoughts on the HOF? Is it a worthwhile endeavor? It seems to be a ton of work for Marty and lots of mixed opinions on qualifications from GM’s.
nybombers3 I really like the idea of a HOF and have some other ideas that I think would be cool. That said, just like with something like GM voting, if the interest isn’t there then it’s hard to be excited about it. Marty seems very into making it work though so I’d be very interested to see where it goes.
the original michael I have to be honest. I could care less. What does it matter? Is there incentives for having HOF players? Just seems useless and time consuming for no reason at all. I'll pass unless we get RCs and ACs for voting or something I guess. It'll give Marty something to do when he gets CYd though.
Braz I like my way in the idea i posted. I do not want to be super involved but i think it is a very cool aspect to have in a long term league with consistent GMs. Everyone should want thier guys in the HOF! I hate when gms hate on others for giving effort. So lame. If marty has the time and desire go for it. Id prefer a league gambling forum though were someone posts pick ems for RCs.
hf I think it’s pretty awesome but we need to revamp the system we have for it. With the point system in place, it’s impossible for a wing player to get in. Wing players don’t win mvp. Or get dpoty awards. Tyler Herro can have 15 straight years of all league first team and defensive team and wouldn’t make the HOF under the current guidelines. If Marty needs help I’m sure others will step up.
autumn harold voting on the HOF will be fun if we land on that. I love the lookback. If it’s just a points system, I have no idea why that’s interesting, but I’m happy to be wrong.
Who is the one player above all that you regret trading the most?
nybombers3 I guess Billy. I don’t regret the trade at all and would do it again but man, I loved getting him so late and he’s a cool player overall. The Roy deal, while I wished I could’ve done more with him, was a necessary move. So yeah, I’ll go with Billy.
the original michael Justice Winslow. Not Andthony Davis, but Winslow. I love his game. A wing who scores, defends, blocks, and boards? OH MY. Trading him for Lou Williams was fucking awful for me. Everyone thought it was miserable for play, but it turned out miserable for me. That's FBB for you. Fuck. Give me winslow back please.
Braz For a season it was samardo but i got him back. Now I am at peace. Drummond and Dray both look really good so it hurts since I am having a hard time finding an affordable big.
hf I traded DeMar way too early, could have an awesome duo with Giannis, instead I dealt him like a dummy. Had 3-4 years of not touching 23 ppg as a top option and then exploded as soon as he left us. Love to see it.
autumn harold Al Jeff, but it’s tough because I got a ring and came very close to having a second. It was definitely the wrong move, but in terms of outcomes, I’ve made worse moves. He’s really the only all-timer I’ve had in his prime and dealt. I knew with guys like Klay, Jimmy, Roy, even Wade that they were gone as soon as I was in the mood to move them, and that’s a very freeing mentality IMVHO. A lot of guys have studs burning a hole in their pocket, and they get frustrated because they’re bored but they think it’s a sin to move them. Not me. Don’t care about these idiots!
Call out time. Who needs to tear it down or consolidate assets and compete the most?
nybombers3 I feel like the season is open. No real team is there as the favorites. Yet, there’s a few teams hanging on to long dudes. I’m actually surprised the Suns haven’t moved a package of Tatum/Harris for a player. Same with Celtics and Brown. Grizzlies should definitely rebuild next season. I get not wanting to rush into moves but a dude like Lowry already has low value. With that contract, eh.
the original michael This is typically where I would call out jah. But nah, not today. Jah made a move for AD even though he broke my balls, then complained about a free fucking AC. Idiot. Anyways, I think Eli needs to make a move. Tear it down young fella. I'll give you your pick back too. I'm nice. Lums is in the same boat. Shit or get off the pot. I think he's trade shy. TEAR IT DOWN LUMS. On the flip side, I think the Suns should GO FOR IT. Trade Tatum. Do it. Go for it.
Braz I think the celtics came out hot and need to adjust their line up which isnt working and they can be good. Eli need a big really bad and is lazy. Love to see Jah making moves. A lot happened this offseason so no one to hate on.
hf Grizzlies have to make a move. Do something. Team isn’t good enough to win, and don’t have assets to become a winner. Capitalize on Lowry and Love still having value and start your rebuild!!
autumn harold Augustus needs to decide step it up. I feel for him. We’re brutal in trade threads and he doesn’t know anyone here. But no one’s gonna complain if he moves Lowry, Favors, or Love for solid prospects and picks. He’s in a good spot to rebuild and doesn’t need to be precious about value. As for someone who needs to make a move, I’ll actually go with Skillz. How many seasons is he going to have LeBron for? One at most. Lots of good youth he could convert into studs if he’s aggressive. Maybe he peels off Love or DeMar or even Lillard. Peel!
What player has been the biggest example of what I am calling a “BBS Child Star” ? Meaning a player that either simmed really well or had explosive TC’s early on and then fizzled out after their rookie contracts.
nybombers3 It’s funny. I looked at this question and then I saw a block posted about Khris Middleton. He dropped 18 ppg in his first year, had nice ass ratings with A potential. Next year he’s sitting on the Clippers bench and just been subpar since. I’m sure there’s a better example but he’s one dude who comes to mind.
the original michael Great question. KAT maybe? He looked good early then sucked? Jokic is another guy. But I'm going t go with Gilbert Arenas. He was great for his first 3-4 seasons, then was MEH. Still decent, but not elite like how he was on his rookie deal.
Braz Oden? was he ever good. dont really got much here.
hf I feel like Patrick Beverly had a huge first tc and not much after. Maybe Khrushchev Middleton as he’s only gone +2 since his first tc after going +5. Can’t really think of too many more guys like that. Ryan Hollins?
autumn harold this is a fun question. I know someone else said Gil—definitely the best answer IMO. A lot of guys never live up to promising ratings, but not a lot of guys give you serious production on their rookie deals and then fade early. PGs like Beverley and Marcus Smart looked like they’d become stars but stalled after their first TCs. Dmitris Diamantidis comes to mind as a guy who peaked early, but he was a great scorer for a long time. Oden’s rebounding collapsed. JO at one point got to A-/B+/B and was doing well over 3 BPG, but he kind of always sucked.
You have five seconds left in a game down by 1. Which player in the file is taking the last shot for you?
nybombers3 Curry. Not sure who else would come even close. Maybe Klay, Kyrie or even Mills this year has been good.
the original michael Kemba Walker. He's shooting lights out this year and is named CARDIAC KEMBA for a reason. The man is clutch. He gets no fucking respect. He's a champion here and takes pay cut after pay cut just to play for a winner. Kemba is the pick.
Braz On this file curry for sure.
hf Giannis of course. Duh
autumn harold I’d probably take the volume scorer with the highest field goal percentage and lowest turnover percentage. Folks—that’s Deonte Burton, and he has +11 left.
Please express your gratitude and well wishes for Ahsan here as he battles this blizzard.
nybombers3 I feel like Ahsan discussed the PG trade like this:
staticblog.virtualvocations.com/2016/01/Computer_In_Snow.jpg
I wish him well and hope that he never has to take 2 inches again.
the original michael Ahsan, you are my friend. I'm sorry I mocked you for surviving the 1 inch blizzard. I did not take into consideration how unprepared your state was to deal with the weather. Anyways, I'm glad you and your family are safe. I'm glad you did not injure yourself when you slipped and nearly fell all the way to the ground. You're a good person.

No one is in their CY this year so let's look forward to next year. Potential victims include Denver, Boston, Seattle, Phoenix, and Dallas to name a few (sorry if I missed you) Who makes it this year, who makes it next year, and who misses it entirely?
nybombers3 Nuggets and Suns should be good. Weak West. Dallas is always in their CY so yeah. Boston should also be fine. They have a lot of talent. That leaves the Sonics. I have a feeling Marty will pull it off. Hopefully he’ll have cap. He’ll have his pick. I’m sure he can land some decent talent for cheap. I doubt the West gets so much stronger next year.
the original michael The only team on that list in jeopardy of missing their CY is Seattle. They are in real danger. I don't mean to beat a dead horse, but jesus christ. This man came in and talked so much shit and he has done one of the worst GM jobs I have ever seen. PG just went for expirings one year out of his CY. So, who is next on the WL?
Braz I think they all make it with PHX making it this year and potentially boston too. I wouldnt worry about habes and a CY next year but i guess he has a kid now. Royal just made big trades so could turn it up and seattle.. well yeah he is his own worst enemy
hf Dallas will def be CYd. Seattle is in rough shape not sure if Marty can make it happen but I’m rooting for the man. I think Boston, Phoenix, denver all reset this season.
autumn harold Wow, that’s a lot of teams in their CY. I’d say Marty and I are gonna miss it. He has no valuable assets and is going to have to flip whatever he gets with his picks for talent. He needs amazing TCs from FVV and Ben, both of whom look dead. As for me, I’m in trouble. Don’t know what else to say other than that. We’ll see. Phoenix and Boston reset this year. Maybe Denver does too. Royal will be fine. He’s had way worse CY situations.
My blood pressure was a bit high at my physical recently so I’ve been watching what I eat pretty closely. Tell me what your favorite sandwich is (and from where!) so that I can plan my next cheat day accordingly. Pictures welcome.
nybombers3 I can’t stand Deli Meat sandwiches. Let me get that out there. I love a good chicken parm hero though. Some sauce. A solid amount of cheese. I remember this spot near me makes a stuffed chicken parm hero. So good. It was sauce, chicken, middle stuffed with cheese, chicken, more cheese and a little sauce on topic. So wet. So cheesy. Great breading. So good.
the original michael It's called an irresistible sub from Ray n Mike's Deli. It's a buffalo chicken and steak and cheese sub. It's delicious. It'll also make you feel like shit.
