BBS 2021 Mock Lotto
1. Los Angeles Lakers - Cade Cunningham PG 6'8'' 220 20 B C+ B B C A
Cade looks amazing and has everything you want in a franchise player. Well, Spence didn't mention his handles in the notes but they should be fine. Good inside scoring, stocks and boards for a PG sounds mmmm and his outside shooting should explode eventually since he's a PG and they usually get to A- outside if they start with C+ at least. Only other guy Nanz might consider here is Scottie Barnes because his notes are sexy as fuck, but i think Cade being listed at PG and getting those nice TC's gives him the edge over Scottie and others.
2. Miami Heat - Jalen Green SG 6'6'' 180 19 B B- C C C A
I'll probably regret passing on Barnes but fuck it! Really love Green and he is the perfect fit for my team since I need a volume scoring SG. Hoping he can be my next Ricky Davis, but even better! "Elite Scorer" "1st Option" "Steals" were his notes. All I need to see! His handles might be a little shaky at first but shouldn't really be an issue. With the lack of great wings in the league, the prospect of grabbing a potential 30 ppg wing is pretty enticing. Will be stuck at SG since he only has C reb but that's alright he should be in the 6+ range there.
3. Utah Jazz(via Denver Nuggets) - Scottie Barnes PF 6'9'' 225 20 B- C A- B C+ A
Pretty easy pick here for the Habes since Barnes could easily go #1 after his note. The only concern is his outside really but that's usually one of the areas that improves the most in TC. And since he already has the other attributes to be a starting PG, his outside isn't a HUGE concern. But if TC decides not to be kind to him at PF and his outside decides not to develop then that could be a bit of an issue but I don't see that happening if he has any kind of potential. Not gonna lie it'll be hard for me to pass on Barnes if I stay at 2 but we'll see what happens!
4. Seattle Supersonics - Evan Mobley C 7'0'' 215 20 B- B- D+ C B- A
Really solid notes for Mobley, most GMs will probably like him more than I do but he still looks like the obvious #4 pick here after the 3 clear studs are gone. I definitely like him over Kuminga who looks like a Pascal Siakam/OG Anunoby clone, eww. My only concern is that Mobley is a bit of a tweener and I have had 0 luck with keeping these type of players at PF/C. Others have had plenty of luck though so as long as he doesn't have a really unlucky TC or two then Mobley definitely has a nice chance of being a stud. Not sure I see franchise player like the first 3 picks though.
5. Orlando Magic - Jonathan Kuminga SF 6'8'' 205 18 B C C- B C+ A
I'm really not a fan of Kuminga and I would probably trade back if I get stuck at 5 tbh. He's only 18 and has amazing ratings and good notes, but he just reminds me too much of Pascal/Anunoby which scares me away. Being raw with big potential and already have this solid of a base though he definitely has a chance to be great, but his notes mention bad handles. Usually bad shooting and bad handling wings don't turn out well. He has the stocks and boards to maybe make up for it though. It will just depend on how bad his shooting and handles and how high his pot is I guess!
6. New Orleans Hornets(via Boston Celtics) - Usman Garuba PF 6'8'' 230 19 C+ C C- B- B- B
Some might think this is a bit of a reach but with the lack of true bigs in this draft and the fall off after Kuminga, for me this is an obvious pick. Garuba has great notes("Stocks, boards and admirable post defense") and Spence said he has "very good" handles. Great ratings for a 19 year old big, not sure what else you could want! He doesn't have the name value of Suggs/Wagner maybe but I have Garuba very high on my list in this draft. If he has any kind of pot and has a good TC, with the right camps he will be a starting big man very soon in this league.
7. Utah Jazz - Cameron Thomas SG 6'4'' 210 20 B- B C C C- B
This will be a tough choice for Habes since I would put Suggs here but he took Barnes already so Jazz will most likely be taking the highest wing on their board here. They could go a lot of different ways since there a ton of good wings available here. Franz Wagner kind of looks like the pick here based on ratings but I don't love his notes and not a fan irl. I'm really high on Cam Thomas, especially after his notes indicated he had good handles. Obviously his defense and rebounding will need to improve a bit through TC but he's already borderline B B+ scoring so he should have no problem becoming a B+ A- or better very soon.
8. New Jersey Nets - Jalen Suggs PG 6'4'' 205 20 C+ B- B C C A
John has been talking about trading out of the draft but this would be a great scenario for him if he stayed put and things fell this way. Suggs could be the franchise PG the Nets need and he should probably go higher and would if his defense was more real to life. But he just looks like sort of a generic PG currently which is why I think he slips a bit. Having said that, I still think he has the chance of being a great player and he probably will be a very good PG at the very least. But with the depth of PGs in this draft, I wouldn't be surprised if Suggs fell even further tbh as I like a few other guys here as well.
9. New Orleans Hornets - Franz Wagner PF 6'9'' 220 20 C+ B C- B- C+ A
Not really a big fan of Franz like I said earlier, but he probably won't go off the board any later than 9 just based on his sexy ratings. He needs to be moved to SF imo and if he does have stocks and keeps the good rebounding then he should be a very good player. Franz could very well go higher if his notes were better but Spence didn't sound too excited about him. It's still hard to deny those ratings and as long as you view him as a wing and not a big man then he is pretty easy to get excited about I guess. He really just needs one or two good TCs and scoring camps to be a nice SF.
10. New Jersey Nets(via Houston Rockets) - Josh Christopher SG 6'5'' 215 20 B- B- C- C+ C B
This is where the draft starts to fall off and become a bit of a crap shoot from this point on. I still like a ton of guys but it's really just a guessing game now. So i'll just go with the guy with the best notes and Christopher has some really nice notes actually. "Good scorer and ball handler. Stocks" You can't really ask for more than that from a wing. One might be inclined to take Christopher over Wagner just based on notes and I might be one of those people. Didn't really notice Christopher at first but he could actually be really nice if his notes are true and he has any pot. Just +24 that scoring and let the magic happen.
11. Seattle Supersonics(via Dallas Mavericks) - Johnny Juzang SF 6'6'' 210 20 C+ B C- B- C B
Another tough choice here that will most likely come down to which wing the Sonics like best. I like a few PGs here too but Sonics took Ball last season so they will probably be going wing or big here. Johnny Juzang is a good mix of ready now and a guy that should still have nice potential. He is already close to B- B+ scoring so if he gets +24 to his scoring and just has a solid TC or two then he should turn out to be a good starting wing at the very least. Not an overly sexy pick here especially since Spence didn't give him much love in the notes but he has a nice base and has a good chance of being very good.
12. Philadelphia 76ers - Joel Ayayi PG 6'5'' 180 21 B- C+ C+ C+ C B
I think 76ers are in a good position to take the best PG available here as I don't really love Garland and they are going to be trying to win next season so picking up a good PG here would be awesome. They should probably go with a more established guy like Mitchell, Dosunmu or Ayayi but I also like Josh Giddey here too. Don't think Steve could go wrong with either guy but he should probably take Joel Ayayi here since he has the best chance of being a good scorer. His handles might need a bit of work but shouldn't be a huge issue and I think the rebounding and steals will make up for it.
13. Cleveland Cavaliers(via Atlanta Hawks) - Jalen Johnson SF 6'9'' 220 20 C+ B- C+ C C A
Not many great options here for the Cavs and since this is basically just a free pick, I think they can afford to take a chance on a guy like Johnson over guys like Kispert/Brown or a PG. His ratings are obviously not great, but his notes were pretty nice. "Solid inside scorer, good jumpshot and steals" Love it for a raw wing and he has nice size and rebounding for a SG as well. Just have to worry about his handling but he should be alright there especially if his steals are good like notes say. He is pretty close to B- B scoring so with a +24 and a good TC he has the chance of being a very nice player.
