Welcome to the first 2057 installment of Back to the Future Roundtable: Part I! I am your host, Johnny B Good Stamos and today we are joined by greeme , Braz , Erbes and Orlando Magic Johnson ! After a small break of almost 55 season we are back baby! Back to the future where we belong!
YOU KNOW WHAT WE SAY AROUND HERE! SAY IT WITH ME! BBS is a big part of our pasts and thanks to big Spence, now our futures! LETS GET TO IT!
1. A lot of people saying the top of this draft sucks... do you think that’s right? Outside of English, who do you think drafted top 5 has the best chance to become the best player from this draft.
Jeff: Oh boy. Asking me to evaluate talent in this league? Might be in over my head, but let's give it a shot. Dan Roundfield seems like he'll be a really good starter in the league to me. I know ratings aren't everything, but he's more developed than English in that aspect. TC can be a cruel mistress and maybe English busts! Who knows!? But yeah I like Roundfield. Give some love to those boards and he could be a stud!?
BRaz: I think it was not a star heavy draft but as it went on I kept finding guys I was excited to draft for depth and 5th starter potential. This is likely how drafts should be but we are so used to needing 4-5 studs. I think DT will be the best player in this class
Greeme:David Thompson obv. Roundfield has less of a chance to bust but when you are looking for studs the best player in the class Irl is a good way to start.
Dan: I gotta be honest. I haven't really looked much at this draft..lol but Darryl Dawkins C 18 6'11'' 251 A D+ D B- C+ A looks nice as fuck. A inside scoring? Horned! I bet he could become one of the better players from this draft. Nanz building a squad eh.
2. At the same time. A lot of people think that the middle/end of the draft was dynamite. Who do you think drafted 10-20 has the best chance to become a top player in the league.
Jeff: Way too much thinking for this RT, gunna be honest. Uhhh I'm going Johnny Davis. I like when PGs come in with 'elite handles'. Gives me the false hope I won't have to camp those and can concentrate on turning them into a scoring machine. Greeme had a really good draft!
BRaz: I liked the picks of Bridgeman, Meriweather, Davis, Sobers and even Ticky Burton. I think Bridgeman will be a star and almost took him at 6. The rest should be solid contributors. Sobers and Ticky can likely score buckets if handles are fixed allowing them to stay on the floor
Greeme: Shocker. Again I love my own guy. Johnny Davis should be a stud. Will also mention Charles Russell as somebody who should have gone 15 or so picks higher. I almost got him in rd 2. Meh.
Dan: Another draft question huh? You're really busting my balls here... mmmmm Mike Dunleavy PG 21 6'3'' 180 C B+ B- B- C B looks like a typical solid pg that will be around for awhile. C rebounding is nice. B+ outside coming into the league is also nice. I like his ratings coming in and looks like a great mid first round pick. At 15, nice selection.
3. How do you feel about your squad? What are the plans for this upcoming season?
Jeff:I'm ready to tank my balls off brother. Snuck into the playoffs last year when we very much didn't deserve it. Now it's time to tear it down. Glad I found a loving home for Rudy T and now hoping to do the same for my other geriatrics. But I gotta say I did not miss the low ball offers in my time away! Is one pick too much to ask for!?! Also entering a slower time in work so will give me time to write articles and answer questions to start stockpiling rewards for the next great gen of 76ers basketball!!
BRaz: Oh man not so great but FA can hopefully change that. We need Marv to come back on a max and from there we look solid? still cant see us competing with Green, Kupcheck, Mcginnis, Marv and WBF. Ideally I hit on a bunch of day 2 FAs early on and can hustle to 42.
Greeme:we suck. Tank is the plan. Tiny/dt/wilkes will be solid in a few years but bigs and depth will be sorely lacking this year. Stealing a stud fa is obv part of the master plan.
Dan: need my boy Elmore back badly.. If I can get him back I would like to make a trade. I want to add a couple scores at the 2/3. That would be ideal. We could be a high 40's/early 50's wins squad I think. Hopefully make the playoffs this time...awk. But if we keep the core and improve scoring I think we'd be in good shape
4. Out favorite time of year is coming up… TC BABY! Are you excited about it? Anyone in particular you want to see?
Jeff:One guy I don't want to trade before TC is Phil 'Philly' Chenier. Hoping he's got some juice left in the potential to boost some of his ratings and make him irresistable to some competing teams hubba hubba!! Otherwise, yeah nothing else excites me these days, big sadge. Just hope my old players don't die?
BRaz: Very excited about TC. I have an 18 year old with prob 100 pot whos not good amongst several guys who were boosted in Marv and Mcginnis. WBF had a decent TC last year but went down in rebs and handles. All in all TC will make or break us. Like usual I guess.
Greeme:need wilkes outside and dt's outside to improve. Basically I need an all around great tc.
Dan: I want to see the guys drafted. Dawkins. Elmore Smith. Elmore got that 100 potential would love to see what his continued progression looks like. He might be due for a massive explosion.
5. This TC will also mark the 2nd or 3rd TC for players that were given the potential. Do you think that is still relevant? Do you think there is any chance some will explode this TC?
Jeff:I think you still believe!! Rudy T amiriteeee!?! No idea who else got 100 potential, but that sounds like it was a fun time in the league!
BRaz: Good question. I think some cases it is. For Marv he was a mid player got boosted early on now hes a good player. If he still is at like 70-80 pot I hope it will get him to the next level. McGinnis I am praying the A pot is true and fixes his handles somehow but who knows. His notes said good handles... makes no sense. I still think a few other guys are out there who can boom a bit more. Say like Otis Allison on the spurs. And of course we need to see Dr J get to all A ratings and he is close!
Greeme: it is still relevant I think and some people will explode but not my guys. It would be nice if we had somebody write an article about the 100 pot guys after tc.
Dan: Yes, definitely still relevant and definitely due for some people blowing up. At least I hope so. I think it will help people stay relevant and dominate a little bit longer as well. Like into their mid-30's so we shall see how it works. But I really want to see what Elmore does as long as he signs with me...
6. Skillz took the big one home after a 1-7 record in the finals, what do you think was different this time around? Does the West winning mean the east smells butt?
Jeff:Love me a good simulation league! East dominates all year and then of course the Grizz win it all. I am staking claim to 1% credit as the former Grizz GM. I set them down this path many seasons ago and I'm glad all of my hard work is paying off for Skillz!
BRaz:I think we had a lot of good teams in the east and Skillz put together the right roster to make a run and did. A lot of us looked at that Don Nelson trade like wtf as he added a monster player for the playoff run and it worked. I dont think east or west is as relevant once it gets to the finals but it sure is to get there. Harder path through the east at least recently.
Greeme:he west sucks so skillz cakewalked to the finals and ran into a good match up for his team and the out coached kobe(or spence killed all of kobe players)
Dan: Bunch of BS!! East was the best! West blows! Congratulations to Skillz on winning a ship. Pretty sweet but it's not like he had a tough road to the playoffs. Heat were definitely the better team shocking that they lost. Oh well, that's FBB for ya!
7. Who do you think will make it out of the West and East this year? Do you see a finals rematch in the works?
Jeff:No clue what will happen next year. Doesn't seem like anyone really wants to go for it other than Habes. I know the Magic/Bird drafts are coming up soon? So maybe people are jockeying for those drafts, but yeah seems like a weak field overall. I'll say Pistons vs. Timberwolves. Pistons because Habes good and T-Wolves (as long as they get DVA back) because Break seems content to just ride his good team. Can't blame him - I did it for a year too!!
BRaz:I could see Kobe making it back but he keeps talking about trading Billy or Bob Love which would make it harder. The Wiz blew it up, detroit made a good run but too late,The Cavs have the foundation of an elite bball team but might move hondo, the Magic are nice. It could go a lot of ways. But for the West I would say its the Grizz game until they decide to trade everyone by sim 1. Im not even sure outside of the wolves who would be a stud team if Brian and the Mavs retool.
Greeme: cavs grizz. Cavs in 5
Dan: West is anyone's guess. Definitely could be the Heat or the Cavs in the east again. Both have good squads and will probably keep the same core. In the West who the fuck knows!
8. This year we also have the Warriors in their CY… do you think he makes it? Did he blow it by trading that pick prior to the lotto? If he can’t make it, who should be next in the waiting list… break?
Jeff: Ehhhhh why not!? Nobody from the West who tanked last year seems to be going for it this year so there's definitely room for him to sneak into a situation where he has a losing record, but makes the playoffs. He's made one decent deal so far to pick up Freddie Lewis. Probably needs two more scorers though! Maybe some fellas named Rich Jones and Phil Chenier!?!?!
BRaz: I think he makes it because he does have good players but he went about it the worst way possible and will be right back in CY in another 4 years. I dont want to trash him too hard. Good luck Stoool! Break GMs the wolves so I guess Lums?
Greeme:he will make it. The west sucks. Obv he could have gotten more if he waited until he jumped but that is hindsight. If he does miss cy I wouldn't mind seeing break again.
Dan: Warriors should make it. Good younger players on that squad and the west is so bad. I don't see how they will miss out. Break isn't in the league anymore? lol... this guy can't stay with a team..
9. Regular season in the NBA is over! Who do you see in the finals? Lakers and Bucks? Me too
Jeff: Confession time - I do not watch the NBA lmaooo oops. I'll tune for the playoffs and finals, but yeahhhh not my cup of tea. I'm gunna go with the 76ers (duh!) vs. the Warriors. Warriors win in 6!! (Now give me a good TC Spencer!!)
BRaz: Man I could see lakers making a run if AD is healthy since they made the play in. All these teams look like they are imploding. I thought the Suns were once a lock after KD deal but I will go Denver v Boston. Sorry Knicks
Greeme:suns and Bucks. Kd is sadly going to get a ring
Dan:Knicks vs. Kings! Let's go!
10. Do you buy or lease cars? And why do you think that’s the better approach?
Jeff: I bought my last car. Toyota Highlander. Some say it's a mom-mobile. And I say to that yes it is, but it's so smoothhhhh. If I ever get to the point where I can have two cars on my own, I would probably buy my 'every day' car and lease my fancy car. I do a bit of driving so I'd always be worried about miles on a lease for an every day car.
BRaz:Currently leasing since I got my first truck and knew I wouldnt drive much. I want to get a hybrid or electric one in a few years so leasing protects me vs the long term investment. However... Shit still paying interest. Both paths sucks but need a ride! If you have cash go buy a paid off Honda or something
Greeme:buy. Probably only works for people that rarely change cars though. If you change cars often then leasing is better
Dan: Lease all day baby. Get a new car every 3 years. That's the way I do! Probably not the best approach but a car just depreciates so what's the point..am i right?
11. Do you like to party?
Jeff: This past weekend I had 4 beers at a Saturday Easter celebration and then went to the Botanical Gardens and Eastern Market on Sunday. I was in bed by 10 on Sunday. I leave the partying to the younger folks these days lol.
BRaz: TBD I GUESS? LMAO
Greeme:nope
Dan:I like to have the TV on while I play music. So does that answer your question?
12. Back to the future 1 2 or 3. Rank em!
Jeff:Oh man I haven't seen these in so long. Here we go: 1. Second, 2. First, 3. Hot Tube Time Machine, 4. Third
BRaz: Funny is that I only saw the original because my fraternity did a back to future theme talent show. Shame on me
Greeme:I liked the first one and don't really remember the others so 1, 2, 3
Dan:EASY! 1, 2 AND then 3! hello! MCFLY!!
