Calculus Jones
SF/PF [listed @ PF]
6’8
240 LBS
21 years old
Projected Ratings: D+ A- D B+ C+ B
Bio: While other friends of his era idolized LeBron James, Kobe Bryant and Dwyane Wade, young CALCULUS JONES was enamored with a different champion: Shane Battier. The hyper-competitive young Calc was never blessed with the athletic gifts of many of his peers, but came to love basketball because it could afford any person -- regardless of shape, size, quickness or hops -- the ability to impact the game. At a young age, Calc became famous for his unorthodox shooting form - launching the ball from below his belly-button. While this initially drew the ire of his coaches, his pin-point accuracy quickly won them over. With his push-shot, he was able to launch and hit threes from the LOGO and was soon used as a chess-piece 3-point shooter to space the floor for his more athletic teammates. CALC knew he needed to add more to his game, and studied the aforementioned Battier to learn the ins and outs of defense. This man is FUNDAMENTALLY sound and is the most exaggerated version of a 3&D player that BBS has yet seen.
Jones followed in the footsteps of his idol, Battier, and attended Duke University. His college career started out with a bang: he won a National Championship as a starter as both a Freshman and Sophomore, and was the lone returner after all of his teammates decided to go pro. However, once Coach K retired, Jones spiraled into a depression. Calculus struggled to maintain his high-level of play as a Junior and was kicked out of school for plagiarism. He declared for the NBA draft as a Junior because graduation was no longer an option.
Pros:
-Terrific shooter, both from 3 and midrange.
-Excellent all-around defender. Perimeter and post defense are both outstanding.
-Master of deflections. Gets a bunch of steals. Has great instincts and hands.
-Not a master rim-protector, but as good of a shot-blocker as one can be without being able to jump.
-Doesn't make mistakes. Won't turn it over. Ever.
-This man does not miss a box-out. Terrific defensive rebounder. He'll box out, his teammate will grab the rebound.
Cons:
-Does not have an ounce of athleticism. Very slow for his size and cannot jump over a piece of paper.
-He can go an entire month without taking a layup. He's afraid of the paint. One-trick pony on offense. He'll stand behind the three-point line.
-Since he is a firm believer in transition defense, he WILL NOT crash the offensive boards. This man is getting back on D.
-Not a creative passer
Stips:
