Gabriel Jackson Jr.
SG 21 6'2 185 lbs Memphis
Possible starting ratings: B C+ C- B- C+ A
Background:
A standout wideout who de-committed from Oklahoma after suffering two concussions his junior year of high school, Jackson was lightly recruited as a hoops prospect. Despite a late offer to play for Oregon, Jackson committed to North Texas and proceeded to rewrite their record books as a freshman. After averaging 27 ppg and leading the Mean Green to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, Jackson tested the draft waters but chose, instead, to transfer to Memphis.
He sat out a season and began the next year as the Tigers’ sixth man before asserting himself as the Tigers’ best player. In his one season at Memphis, Jackson was electric. He led the AAC in points and steals per game and was a one-man highlight reel as a dunker and acrobatic finisher, en route to a 27-6 season that ended in heartbreak when Jackson missed two free throws late in a Final Four matchup against Louisville. NBA front offices consider Jackson a lock to leave school.
Strengths:
Volume scoring. Jackson is extremely quick and an elite finisher. He’s strong for a guard and an assertive defender. He should force turnovers at an elite rate. Solid ballhandler. Nice second jump that he uses to grab offensive rebounds.
Weaknesses:
Unspectacular shooting. He has range and his shot is improving, but he needs to make significant strides to be a BBS starter. Not a good passer. Significantly better offensive rebounds than defensive rebounds.
