Mike Ewing II
PG 19 6'8 210 lbs G-League
Possible starting ratings: B C C C+ C+ A
Background:
Ewing is a cousin of former New York Knick great, Patrick Ewing. During his High School career, Ewing was a fringe prospect at best. Carrying the Ewing name, he had a lot of weight on his shoulders, but did not live up early expectations. He was a smaller guard in High School, who could not shoot and did not have any skills that separated him from the pack. After his senior year of HS, Ewing had a tremendous growth spurt, growing from 6-0 to 6-8, putting him on the map with college and NBA scouts. Suddenly with his added height, scouts saw a lot of promise.
He received no D-I offers after HS; however, he would eventually sign with G-League Ignite after social media buzz picked up due to his viral ball handling videos. While his shooting is still poor, he shows some signs of life there and some think he can eventually be a solid shooter. In the G-League, he averaged 10PPG 7APG 8RPG 1.5BPG 2TOPG on 52% FGs. However, he only shot 20% from downtown, while attempting 4 3s a game. Ewing has star potential, especially if he able to improve his outside shot.
Strengths:
- Solid finisher around the rim - Good handles for someone his size, won't turn the ball over much - Solid jump shot, FT shooter - Good rebounder - Some blocking ability due to his size and length at the G position
Weaknesses:
- Likely won't be an elite volume guy, but will do all of the little things - Will attempt 3s, but won't make many of them - Not a good passer - Won't get many steals - Not very quick, some scouts question if he is too slow to play the G position in the NBA
