Chad Slanters
PF
6’7
245 LBS
18 years old
IMG Academy (Fla.)
Projected Ratings: C+ D+ D+ B B- A
Bio:
Chad grew up in South Florida idolizing NFL icons Antonio Gates and Jimmy Graham and wanted to be the next great TE in the NFL. Originally recruited to IMG Academy to play football, Slanters began playing pickup games with the basketball prep team and started dominating. His brute strength and rebounding ability made him a terror on the glass and defensive end. Slanters is also tough to contain down in the paint using his frame and body well to get easy layups, dunks and tip-ins. He has a 46" vertical and can get up out of the gym to block shots as well. His downsides are similar to any football player trying to play bball - he can get sloppy with the basketball in his hands, can't really shoot jumpers or 3PTers and doesn't have a ton of volume in his game.
Chad was almost surely to be drafted in the 2030 NFL Draft if he waited and taken a scholarship at Miami but has instead opted to go the BBS route and will stick with basketball. He's currently working out with Florida legend and BBS great Udonis Haslem to get ready for the BBS combine and anticipates being a lotto pick. Early indications from scouts say he has the potential to be a starter down the road with the right development.
Strengths:
- Super athletic and quicker than most bigs his size
- Blocks shots at a good clip and gets some steals
- Very strong (Slanters bench pressed 225-lb bar 26 times at IMG)
- Above average rebounder for PF
- Good finisher around the rim - embraces contact & gets a lot of And 1's
Weaknesses:
- Handles aren't very good
- Doesn't have a lot of volume
- Post defense is just average
- Does not have a respectable jumper or 3PT shot currently
- Basketball IQ is on the lower end - doesn't pass just puts his head down and gets to the basket
