University of New Mexico
BBS Ratings: C+ B C C C A
Bio: One of the greatest Navajo athletes of all time, Taven Whitehorse is coming off a stellar Sweet 16 run with the New Mexico Lobos where they eventually fell to future NCAA Champion Ole Miss Rebels in a blockbuster 2 OT game. Whitehorse developed his stroke up in the greater Flagstaff area and didn't attract any interest from the bigger schools in the state. Whitehorse left to pave his own path and headed off to Albuquerque to see if he couldn't work hard enough to make his dream come true of getting on the BBS hardwood.
Pros:
An offensive cannon, Whitehorse is a shooting machine with the ability to get to the rim. He has pretty solid quickness for a man of his size and sometimes makes the came around the rim look like a breeze. The bread and butter of his offensive game is his shooting where he was pretty much was untouchable during his college career. Rebounding ability should be solid enough to be a starter in BBS.
Cons:
While Whitehorse should be an elite offensive guy he is lacking on the defensive side of the ball. Not particularly a good defender both positionally and stats wise. Handles are questionable as well as his high volume scoring ability also caused him to cough up the ball more than you would like.
Outlook:
Whitehorse should be an offensive juggernaut but some of the flaws in his game might not allow him to get to the top echelon of the BBS elite. However, there is some potential there and with some camps should be a combo 2-3 off the bench or a good offensive starter for BBS teams looking to compete in the league.
