Bio:
Growing up in Cleveland, Benjamin has been a huge BBS fan from a very young age. Watching the 2 years left teams featuring BBS Legends such as Kevin Garnett and later Al Jefferson dominate and win titles, Benjamin has always tried to mimic his games after those bigs. From a very young age, he was one of the biggest kids and was constantly working to learn how to defend the paint as well as techniques for shotblocking and boxing out. As a young emerging basketball player in the city of Cleveland, he would attend camps hosted by Kevin Garnett and Al Jefferson.
He has always been a very hardworker, especially in the weight room as you can tell by the fact that he has been able to fill out his 7' frame at 250 lbs by the age of 19. Through the basketball camps he attended as a young player, he was able to meet Al Jefferson, work with him and allow for Big Al to serve as a mentor to him. While he isn't super quick, he is incredibly big and incredibly strong. Al saw his size/work ethic and really helped him focus on the areas that he needed to in order to become a good professional.
While most young players focused on shooting the threeball, Benjamin really focused on his midrange game as he constantly saw how Al was able to use it towards his advantage. He is considered to be a very reliable midrange and freethrow shooter. He never really worked on shooting threes ever and does not attempt any shots from beyond the arc ever. While his post-up game is not quite where it needs to be, he has shown flashes of post moves but feels like this is something he needs to continue to work in in order to become a dominant player. Defensively however, his techniques are terrific in shutting down the paint as well as blocking shots and getting some steals here and there. His ability to rebound is probably the best part of his overall game right now as he can box out at a far above-average level.
A 5* recruit who spent one year with THE Ohio State Buckeyes, Benjamin is ready to make the leap into the pros.
