Lavender Gooms
Height: 6’2
Weight: 211
Position: Shooting Guard
Age: 19
College: Georgetown
Projected Ratings: A- C B B- D+ A
Overview:
Lavender Gooms grew up watching Allen Iverson’s highlights on YouTube and fell in love with a player he was too young to ever see live. He has been a top-5 player in his class during his entire Prep School career and brings a lot of the same skills we saw from A.I. nearly three decades before. He even modeled his own Signature Shoe after the ANSWER V.
Gooms starred at Georgetown, where he averaged 24 PPG on 54% shooting as a Freshman. He was the story of college basketball and delighted fans with his fast-break dunks, killer crossover and scintillating style. Even though he has dominated at every level, he has real question marks as a BBS prospect. The sky is the limit for this kid as a talent, but he struggles to shoot from distance, turns the ball over and does not contribute on the boards. Can his natural gifts and potential outweigh his current issues? Time will tell.
Strengths:
-Extremely athletic. Quick, fast, high-jumper, fast-twitch. Elite level athlete who should have big potential because of his physical gifts.
-Electric first step. Will be one of the fastest players in BBS the second he hits the pros. Is an absolute menace in the Fastbreak.
-Terrific finisher. Lives above the rim. Can dunk it over bigger defenders. Has a Kobe-esque layup package. Just everywhere in the paint.
-Aggressive defender. Gets a ton of steals. Will get the occasional chase-down block.
-Solid passer. Can break down the defense and find open teammates.
Weaknesses:
-Shooting needs work. Jumper isn’t completely broken, but he elevates too high on his jump shot and is inconsistent from every level.
-Shot in the high 60s/low 70s from the FT-line in college and made 30% of his threes on low volume. He’ll need his potential to hit his shooting for him to succeed on the next level.
-Poor rebounder. Has never been a focus of his. He’s undersized and has never had a nose for the ball on the boards.
-Ambitious player who turns the ball over a little bit more than you’d like. He has some nice moves but is sometimes careless with the ball.
-Average positional defender. Not a defensive sieve, but he’s so aggressive as a STEALs man, he sometimes foregoes sound positional defense
