Background: Aydin grew up in the slums of Istanbul, dirt poor, and basketball wasn't even his first love. He played soccer on the streets all day everyday, but unfortunately he was never very good. He's been tall for forever, reaching 6'9 early at 13 years old, but his lanky frame meant he wasn't able to maneuver as well as his shorter friends could with the ball. One day, Hedo Turkoglu happened to be driving through the slum and he noticed Aydin, standing out with that freakish height and invited him to ride along with him to a basketball camp he was running. On the court, despite never playing before, Aydin was a different animal, his athleticism showing itself in the way he could cover so much ground with incredible fast-twitch and a preternatural sense of timing that saw him sending several shot attempts into the stands. Hedo knew he had one and made sure to scoop Aydin up for the Turkish youth basketball program. He would flourish, soaking up game like a sponge, displaying an uncanny ability to handle and shoot for someone his height, just like Hedo used to. However, when he got his hands on a smartphone and started looking up Youtube highlights, Lamar Odom quickly became his favorite player. Growing up poor, Aydin never really had a full stomach everyday and this revealed itself in a complete lack of nutrition and muscle definition that he continues to need to work on, though he has a good head on his shoulders and is very coachable so there is no doubt that he will be able to pack on the pounds once he receives some professional training. And though he is a quick learner, because he picked up the sport late in his life, he never really became accustomed to concepts like playing the passing lanes, which means he likely won't be a good steals guy at the next level. He sometimes is too focused on making the highlight play with ball in hand, meaning he'll forego making the right pass or hitting the open man because of this tunnel vision. At the U19 FIBA tournament hosted in Athens, tragedy struck. While he was sinking a pair of game winning free throws against Serbia in the semi-final, his brother was murdered in Istanbul during an anti-Erdogan protest. After finding out, Aydin tore up his hotel room and sent out a long stream of tweets trashing the Turkish strongman, ensuring that he would never play for Turkey again. Wearing his backpack and his Turkish uniform, he found his way to the American embassy and sought asylum, fearing for his life. He was granted refugee status and has been situated in Los Angeles ever since, training with Odom and waiting for his chance to enter the BBS draft.
