*Note written before sim 1 so my grades are solely based off TC and not how they simmed in Sim 1.
1. Philadelphia 76ers - YAO MING
Pre TC Ratings: B C D+ C+ C+ A
After TC Ratings: B C D+ B B A
- The Philadelphia 76ers lucked out getting the number 1 pick in this draft. Yao is a special talent, I expect him to be a top big in the next few years and for many years to come. I don’t see how he could’ve went any other way here before TC and even after TC I’m not sure I would pick anybody else.
Grade: A
2. Sacramento Kings (from Magic)- AMAR'E STOUDEMIRE
Pre TC Ratings: B+ D+ D+ C C A
After TC Ratings: A- D+ C- C B- A
- Amar’e was definitely up for discussion with this pick and personally before TC this is who I would’ve picked. For the name solely, bad I know. He jumped in rebounding which was huge for him. I doubt he becomes any kind of defender unless all camps were put into him there but that’d be a waste. Good player, better player on the board though.
Grade: B+
3. Milwaukee Bucks- CARLOS BOOZER
Pre TC Ratings: B C- D+ C B B
After TC Ratings: B- C- D+ C B B
- The Milwaukee Bucks seem to not know how to draft so far in this league. Bad picks last season, then Boozer 3rd overall. I have nothing against Boozer at all. Hes gonna be a olid player, but there were so many better options at 3 IMO. This might’ve been the worst pick in the Lotto and Jay Will got selected here. Hopefully he recovers from these picks cus Chipper is solid guy.
Grade: D
4. Houston Rockets- DIMITRIS DIAMANTIDIS
Pre TC Ratings: B A- C+ C C B
After TC Ratings: B+ A- B- C C C
- The best pick in this draft! Ahsan gets lucky that the Bucks didn’t take him, cus I have faith he would’ve blew the pick if he didn’t fall in his lap. Either way Dimitris looks to be a legit scorer. A true #1 option and Ahsan needed talent bad. Expect Ahsan to try to make him look bad with his DC to lose more games, but I think he should’ve gone 2 maybe even 1 after TC.
Grade: A+
5. Utah Jazz (from Suns)- TAYSHAUN PRINCE
Pre TC Ratings: C B C- B+ C B
After TC Ratings: C+ A- C A- C C
- The Utah Jazz got a lot of slack from trading up to pick Tayshaun at 5. From the looks of it they made the right decision. He is better then Boozer already and he was taken 3rd. Either way Prince is a stud defender, solid rebounder and offense is a work in progress, but to have A- outside as a rookie and have most of your camps left that is wild tbh. Maybe Prince falls to 8 maybe he doesn’t, but Jazz get a B+ for having to trade up.
Grade: B+
6. New Orleans Hornets (From Timberwolves)- CARON BUTLER
Pre TC Ratings: B- B- C+ C C A
After TC Ratings: B B C+ C+ C B
- Caron Butler is a very good player and will continue to get better. Another player I feel should’ve been taken over Boozer. Having B B scoring as a rookie is also crazy to me. Butler should’ve went top 5 IMO even before TC. Getting him at 6 is a nice consolation prize for the tanking Hornets.
Grade: A-
7. Atlanta Hawks- MIKE DUNLEAVY JR
Pre TC Ratings: C+ B C C+ C A
After TC Ratings: C+ B C C+ C B
- I was super high on Dunleavy going into the draft and he went right around where I thought he would. Him not moving at all in TC is a scary thing for a lottery pick at the age of 22. His potential dipped and no improvements makes this pick look pretty bad with the players left on the board here. Hawks need to pump some camps into him ASAP to make this pick look better.
Grade: C+
8. Denver Nuggets (from Blazers)- JAY WILLIAMS
Pre TC Ratings: C+ C+ C+ C+ C- A
After TC Ratings: C C+ B- C+ C- A
- The only way Jay Will survives this is if he gets camped. Second worst pick in the lottery IMO. Wagner, Arvydas, Milos or even Nene could’ve gone before Jay. In the long run he might be serviceable but he looks worse than Smush Parker and he was taken 27th.
Grade: D+
9. Toronto Raptors (from Sonics)- NENE HILARIO
Pre TC Ratings: B- C- D C+ C+ B
After TC Ratings: B- C- D C+ C+ B
- Nene didn’t improve at all in TC, which is concerning for the Raptors with Luis and Arvydas getting picked after him. He should be a solid contributor for the Raptors for many years to come if he stays. Some camps and Nene will be a starter in this league. Solid pick.
Grade: B
10. Toronto Raptors- DAJUAN WAGNER
Pre TC Ratings: C C+ C+ C D+ A
After TC Ratings: C+ B- C+ C D+ A
- An interesting pick to say the least when it came in, but after TC it looks a lot better. Going up in both scoring categories helps his stock in this league tremendously with the notes Spencer gave he might be the perfect 6th man. It was a risk for Game and the Raptors, but it looks like it might pay off in the long run.
Grade: B-
11. Indiana Pacers - MILOS VUJANIC
Pre TC Ratings: C+ B+ C C D+ C
After TC Ratings: C+ B+ C C D+ C
- Milos is another European most GMs knew nothing about until draft was released. He looks to be the perfect backup. If that’s what he is capped at then in the lotto might’ve been a little high for me. Not improving much in TC hurts what most think he can become. Any improvement for him would’ve been key for the Pacers, but because of the lack of improvement not sure what to make of this pick.
Grade: C+
12. NY Knicks (via Pacers from Lakers) - LUIS SCOLA
Pre TC Ratings: B- B- D+ C C+ C
After TC Ratings: B B- D+ C C+ C
- Scola was an interesting player from the jump. He is not going to be playing power forward like he was for his country. In BBS he projects as a good SF and him lasting to pick 12 was pure luck for the Knicks. I think he will be a great player for the Knicks, but doubt he stays there for long. Skillz has no attachment to any of his players so expect somebody to take Scola and have him start.
Grade: A-
13. Milwaukee Bucks (from Hornets) - ARVYDAS MACIJAUSKAS
Pre TC Ratings: B- B C C D+ B
After TC Ratings: B- B+ C C D+ C
- Arvydas looks like the second best European guard in this draft behind Dimitris. The drop off is huge, but the drop off from Arvydas to Milos is also a big one. Surprised Arvydas lasted till pick 13, which is good for the Bucks because they need all the help they can get. He should be a part of the bigger picture for the Bucks and that is definitely a good thing.
