Sim 1 Overreaction or not with JR
Alright so I will be going over some of the spiciest takes, and give you my opinion. It isn’t worth much but still should be interesting to read the comments afterwards.
1. Denver’s the 2nd best West team after acquiring MJ
Current Record: 4-3
Analysis: The season has just kicked off and the Nuggets already made a splash after swapping Jay Will plus fillers and their 2005 1st for the presumed last season of Michael Jordan. MJ’s fresh off carrying New Jersey to the 2001 BBS championship win over the Mavs and his second Finals appearance. Will he able to make it a 3rd and beat out the Kings and Clippers this season? I think it’s very possible so this is NOT AN OVERREACTION.
2. Hawks, Magic both will reset their CY
Records: ATL 1-2 & ORL 3-6
Analysis: Atlanta and Orlando both came in with expectations of trying to hit 42 this year or make the playoffs. While the East is weaker this season, I believe it will be a battle for the playoffs against other teams. With the Nets appearing to bow out, it appears likely at least one will make it but it will be very competitive in the middle of the East. As of now, this is an OVERREACTION.
3. T-Wolves have the worse array of 2002 FA contracts
Acquisitions: Etan Thomas, Malik Rose, Antonio Daniels,
Analysis: Minnesota spent a whopping $52M on Thomas, Rose and Daniels this off-season and that does not include the $22M they threw at Joel Pryzbilla before dealing him to Indiana. Thomas has some promise as a young shot blocking big and only 24 years old at center but I think that’s a lot of dough for Rose and Daniels being both grossly overpaid for their production at their respective positions. This my friends is NOT AN OVERREACTION.
4. Dimitris Diamantidis will win ROY over Yao, Amar’e
Stats: 25.3 PPG, 10 RPG, 1.8 SPG
Analysis: DD as he’s been coined is the lone bright spot in the Rockets’ lineup aside from Shawn Marion. The Greek rookie is shooting 50% from the field and over 40% from 3PT - very efficient oof! I’m thinking Yao will come on strong for Philly and can potentially beat him out but Amar’e might be slow out the gates this season. Houston is worse than the Sixers at the moment so for now, this is NOT AN OVERREACTION.
5. The Bucks are the worst team in the league.
Record: 0-8
Analysis: The Bucks have been very bad to start the 2002 campaign – but are they the worst in the league. They have the 6th worst points given up per game and they are 23rd in points scored per game. I think Boozer and Arvydas are the only positives to take away from this team. There are other teams though that are vying to be worse and to hold their beers including the Rockets, Jazz, Sixers, Hornets and Wolves. This is an OVERREACTION.
6. Arenas will win the scoring title
Stats: 34.7 PPG, 7 APG, 2.7 SPG, 50% FG/3PT%
Analysis: I know we’re only 10 days in but DAMN Agent 0! Arenas has been filthy good to start the season for the Lakers. While ‘Tawn and Kobe are nipping at his heels, Arenas is shooting real nice percentages and picking almost 3 steals a game. If the Lakers keep this high powered offense, there’s no reason Arenas can’t be #1 in scoring at the end of the season so NOT AN OVERREACTION.
7. Blazers, Sonics, Suns, Lakers all reset their CY
Stats: POR 4-4, SEA 3-3, PHO 3-4, LAL 7-3
Analysis: So far the Lakers have the best shot of making the playoffs or hitting 42. It’s early but Portland and Suns have struggled a bit while the Sonics don’t have a lot fire power around Shaq but getting it done on the defensive end. But all 4 making it in an improved West will be tough. This makes it a OVERREACTION.
8. The Kings are the best team in the league
Record: 7-1
Analysis: Kings have cruised to a blistering 7-1 record to start 2002. Their lone loss came to the Clippers on the road while they beat LAC at their home court on day 3. Nash and JJ have been a godly backcourt for Sactown while Toine has settled in at the 3. I think they might to deal Amar’e for an upgrade at some point but they are off to a hot start but it’s still very early so this is an OVERREACTION.
9. Jason Kidd is the league’s most underrated superstar
Stats: 18.6 PPG, 9.1 RPG, 11.3 APG, 3.0 SPG
Analysis: I think Kidd put a lot of teams on notice last year by taking the Mavs to the Finals last year. He’s putting them on his back again this year by averaging almost a triple double to start the season! They’ve tumbled a little bit to start the year but they should bounce back with a couple minor tweaks here and there, so this is NOT AN OVERREACTION.
10. Cavs will make the Finals for the East
Record: 6-3
Analysis: I don’t think this is a foregone conclusion yet but they are off to fast start. Grant Hill and KVH are a monster wing combo and you still got KG at PF getting you 20+ and 10 boards. GP actually got better during TC so this team is shaping out to be real nice especially after getting Pippen as another wing defender and Pryzbilla basically for free. Some of the usuals like Miami, Chicago, Indiana and New York might challenge but for now, this is NOT AN OVERREACTION.
