1. Indiana Pacers - Mel Hutchins PF 6'6'' 200 23 B C D B B A
Elite inside and midrange game. Very good handles and post defense as well.
A young future PF to pair up with Jalen Mbala. The Pacers retool their starting front court quickly as possible.
2. Sacramento Kings - Whitey Skoog SG 5'11'' 180 25 C+ B+ B+ C D+ A
Very good offensive player. Can score from everywhere. Handles, steals and passing all good. Poor rebounder.
Kings need a guard and Skoog is the best available at this pick. Whether as a starter or a potential 6th man, he should make a lot of noise as a rookie early on.
3. Detroit Pistons - Lew Hitch PF 6'8'' 200 22 C+ B+ C- C+ C+ A
Very good scorer. Solid handles. Some stocks. Should probably move to SF.
Hitch is the best available talent at this pick imo. Who doesn't like stocks? He and Wah Wah Jones will provide a versatile front court together.
4. Indiana Pacers (via New Jersey) - Alfred McGuire PG 6'2'' 180 23 B B A- C C A
Can score inside and out. Good passer. Will get steals. Handles may push him to SG.
After going big at #1, Pacers add another talented prospect with great starting ratings for a combo guard in McGuire. He will likely start next to Dylan Robinson for the meantime and contend for rookie of the year. After all, FBB loves point guards.
5. Miami Heat - George Dempsey PG 6'2'' 190 22 C B B C D+ A
Solid shooter. Good quickness. Good passer. Will get some steals. Handles should allow him to play PG.
Another point guard with nice starting ratings who could develop into a quality starter for Miami. Not many weaknesses in his game other than rebounding.
6. Chicago Bulls - Mel Payton SF 6'4'' 185 25 B C C- A- B- B
Can score from inside and mid. Good handles. Stocks. Boards. Solid.
Play may not like old rookies but Payton would be too hard to pass up at this pick. A prospect with a high floor game and stocks? Add in camps and Payton will look even better as a rookie.
7. New Orleans Hornets - Rip Gish C 6'5'' 208 22 B- D+ D+ C+ B+ B
Extremely good inside scorer and rebounder. Also defends the post well. Handles are good. No stocks.
After suffering back to back season ending injuries to Scottie Barnes, Hornets add big man insurance depth here with Gish. When healthy, Hornets are a dangerous playoff team and Gish will be a solid pick to backup their big men. Center Kai Jones is also getting older so Gish makes sense as a potential replacement for the future.
8. Indiana Pacers (via Denver) - Roland Minson SF 6'0'' 180 22 C C+ C+ B- C A
Extremely raw. Some stocks. Good upside.
Indiana can go a different route here but I see them taking a high upside pick with Minson. They likely won't be winning anytime soon so taking a chance on a player who could develop nicely over the years makes sense for their youth movement. Minson also has stocks so that's a plus as well.
9. Miami Heat (via Seattle) - Don Savage SF 6'3'' 205 23 B- C- C- A- B- B
Solid player. Can score inside and from midrange. Good handles and rebounder. Can defend man to man pretty well.
Savage would go higher if he had stocks but Miami lands a BBS ready type player here. He should be able to contribute from day 1 and be a very capable backup behind Herrero and Rixey III.
10. Phoenix Suns - Jake Fendley SG 6'0'' 180 22 B- B- C C+ C B
Good scorer inside and out. Solid handles. Plus rebounder at SG.
Suns will begin the off-season without a guard but they select one here in Fendley. He looks like another player who can contribute immediately from day 1. Suns appear to be working towards a rebuild so adding Fendley as a young piece for the future makes a ton of sense.
11. San Antonio Spurs - Ed Smith SF 6'6'' 180 22 C B+ C A- C C
Last season, Spurs lacked shooting everywhere on their roster aside from the Ant-man so I think they select one here in Smith. Spencer also says "Smith has good handling and stocks" so I think he's good enough to be warranted at this pick. Smith looks like a great 3&D player on paper and he should be able to help the Spurs next season.
12. Chicago Bulls (via Golden State)- Bill Gossett C 6'7'' 190 22 B- C- C C+ B- B
Can score, rebound and get some stocks. Solid backup big man.
After selecting Mel Payton at 6, Bulls select a younger player in Gossett who provides stocks for a big man which Play will love. Add in camps and Gossett could see a lot of time in the front court for the rebuilding Bulls.
13. Miami Heat (via Atlanta) - Bato Govedarica PG 5'11'' 185 23 C- C A C+ C B
Elite jumpshot, handles and passing. Also a very good rebounder. Inside scoring, 3 point shooting and defense are not very good.
Miami ends the lotto by selecting a prospect with an elite skill in his notes. Although they grabbed a point guard in Dempsey at 5, Bato imo is the best available player at this pick based on having an elite skill in jump shooting and high rebounding for a guard. Miami could go a different route here but Bato is a very interesting prospect despite some glaring weaknesses in his game.
