Tankpapi's 2034 Draftee Rankings
1. Clyde Lovellette C 6'9'' 234 23 B C D+ B B A
Elite inside and jumpshot. Elite post defender and strength. Near elite handles and quickness. Limited stocks.
Clyde is the clear #1 pick. Elite inside, strength, jumpshot and quickness makes me think Clyde can be the next Sean Ellison, minus a block or so.
2. Gene Conley PF 6'8'' 225 22 B- C C- B B- A
Elite inside scorer. Good midrange. Little bit of stocks. Solid handles.
I think the 2nd pick could go a number of ways. I'd be fine with any of Conley, Meineke, Miller, Davis or Zeke going here. What an incredible draft for those needing a big! I eventually settled for Conley here. The elite inside scoring combined with good strength, midrange and quickness puts him just under Clyde as a scorer, but with more potential over guys like Monk and Zeke.
3. Monk Meineke PF 6'7'' 208 22 B+ C+ D- C B B
Elite inside and midrange. Very good handles and rebounding.
Monk is guaranteed to be a good, maybe even great player in this league with his elite inside and midrange to go along with good strength, quickness and rebounding. The C defense rating looks unappealing but his post defense is OK and his scoring and rebounding more than make up for it. His C+ outside means he will shoot 3s. This along with his good quickness potentially makes Monk a candidate to play SF. He's going to get torched there though. I only knock Monk down to 3rd as I imagine he doesn't have a huge amount of potential behind his great starting ratings, but if he does improve even a little bit, sheesh…
4. Eddie Miller C 6'8'' 225 21 B C+ C- B- B- A
Solid inside and jumpshot. Good rebounder. No stocks. Handles are mid.
Miller is the lesser scoring but better defending version of Monk. While there is temptation to play Miller at the 3 with his quickness and ability to shoot 3s, I think PF/C is the best bet long term to utilize his good post defense. He's another big who won't get you stocks but I think he'll score and rebound well enough to negate that.
5. Walt Davis PF 6'8'' 205 21 C+ C- C- A- C+ A
Solid. Stocks are good. Mid and inside are solid. Handles are good. No 3.
Walt is a stocks guy and BBS loves stocks so Walt could go as high as #2. I was surprised to see he had solid inside and good strength with his C+ inside rating. It seems he has a solid scoring base and he could be incredibly good if he continues to develop there. Walt's rebounding is the only thing that gives me pause. He's pretty close to a B- there but development isn't guaranteed.
6. Zeke Zawoluk PF 6'7'' 215 22 C C A- B B+ B
Jumpshot, handles, stocks, boards. Yup.
Zeke is another stocks guy so I can see him going as high as #2 but with no scoring potential, I think you at least take Walt over him. I love efficient scoring big men and think we have a slew of them at the top of this draft, so I'm slotting Zeke at 6. HF said Zeke looks like a younger version of George Brown and I am inclined to agree.
7. Dick Groat PG 5'11'' 180 22 C B- B- B- C A
Jumpshot, handles and are steals all pretty good. Solid all around.
Most of the good PGs in the league are pretty close to retirement age so I'd like to think GMs will start to value PGs again. Groat has an extremely solid base with his good jumpshot, handling and steals. His B- ratings are all on the cusp of a solid B and he's ranked 5th in scouted potential. I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see Groat end up the 2nd best player in this class with a few "PG training camps"
8. Ken McBride SG 6'3'' 190 23 B- C- A B C+ B
Elite passer. Elite stocks. Plus rebounder. Ok inside and mid. Handles are just okay.
McBride looks like a fun player. He should be able to slide in and be an impact on any team with his elite stocks. Elite passing is cool - I like looking at big assist numbers even if they don't mean anything. If he had potential as a shooter, I could see him going higher in the draft.
9. Bill Mlkvy SF 6'4'' 190 21 B C C+ B C+ B
Solid inside and mid. Good handles. Some stocks. Good rebounder for a wing.
Picking another wing player here. Mlkvy has inside and midrange scoring ability and Spencer confirmed he will shoot 3s. Good handling and rebounding and he'll get some stocks? This guy is made for BBS! You could take him over McBride or maybe even Groat with little issue.
10. Bill Stauffer C 6'4'' 210 22 C C- D+ B+ B+ B
Very good rebounder, some stocks. Not much offense.
Stauffer only offers "some stocks" and has a mediocre handle, otherwise I'd slide him right after Zeke. Hell, he could still go that high if someone really wants a great rebounder.
11. Herm Hedderick SG 6'5'' 170 22 B- C- C B C+ B
Handles, stocks, boards. Solid.
Herm seems like a lesser version of Mlkvy so I'm fine with him here. I figure most will take Stauffer over him. I think Herm will be a useful player. Spence said he has high quickness too.
12. Bryant Ivey PG 6'1'' 165 18 C+ C C+ C+ C A
Mid all across. Elite quickness.
The draft starts to get much tougher for me at this point. I think you have to start looking at the A scouted potential guys, even if guys like George McLeod and Chuck Darling are the solid picks. Ivey is 18 years old with A scouted potential and has an elite skill (quickness). He's mediocre otherwise, sure, but I think this is a good gamble at 11. He's decently close to B- inside too.
13. Dick Surhoff SF 6'4'' 210 23 C+ C+ C+ C+ C A
Good jumpshot. Some stocks. Handles and quickness are solid.
Surhoff looks unassuming but he'll get some stocks and is quite close to B- outside and defense.
14. Joe Dean PG 6'2'' 180 22 C B- C B- C- A
Solid jumpshot and 3 point shot. Strong. Handles aren't great.
Dean is a strong shooting PG with A scouted. He doesn't have much volume and doesn't get stocks which hurt. No clue here.
15. Hal Cerra PG 6'2'' 175 19 C B- C+ C C- A
Decent midrange and 3 point shot. Solid quickness. Poor handling and rebounding.
Hal's notes aren't good - a shooting PG who can't handle or rebound - however he has the 2nd highest scouted potential and is 19. A few PG TCs could make him good? I don't know. Worth a gamble I guess.
16. Bobby Watson PG 6'0'' 160 22 C+ C+ C+ C+ C A
Mid all around except rebounding. Solid rebounder.
You might ask why do I have Watson so much lower than Ivey? Bobby is 4 years older and doesn't have an elite skill like Ivey does. Bobby is a better shooter and rebounder though. Honestly if you want to pick him higher, go for it. I had to settle on a spot!
17. George McLeod SF 6'5'' 200 21 C+ B- C+ C+ C B
Jumpshot, 3 point shot, handles and stocks are all solid.
Now we are back to the solid guys. McLeod gets stocks and can shoot which is nice. Spence said he has low volume and is a horrible perimeter defender, so I'd rather take a chance on the A potential guys above.
18. Chuck Darling C 6'8'' 225 22 C C D+ B- B- B
Jumpshot is elite. Decent rebounding. Some stocks.
Chuck has an elite skill (jumpshot) and will get some rebounds and stocks, solid pick at 17.
19. Jack McMahon PG 6'1'' 185 24 B C B B C B
Very good backup PG type. Inside, mid and handles.
He's touted as a very good back up and certainly looks the part with good inside, jumpshot and handling. Spence also confirmed he'll get some steals, but he doesn't shoot 3s which sucks. Seems like he's guaranteed to be a useful player.
20. Jim Walsh SF 6'4'' 195 22 C+ C C- B C+ B
Jumpshot and handles are good. Stocks and rebounds are solid.
Stocks wing who rebounds and has good handles, cool!
21. Jim Baechtold SF 6'4'' 205 25 B C C B C B
Good inside, mid and rebounding. Mediocre handles.
Essentially the wing version of Jack McMahon.
22. Bob Brown SF 6'3'' 190 18 C+ C+ C C C- A
Mostly mid with solid handles and quickness, not a very good rebounder.
Back to the A scouted guys. Brown is close to C+ handle and has the 4th highest scouted potential. We definitely need to ask way more questions about this guy.
23. Tom Ackerman PG 5'7'' 170 19 C C+ C+ C D+ A
Decent jumpshot and quickness. Rebounding and handling aren't great
No clue but he's 19 with A scouted
24. Gene Rhodes SG 6'1'' 170 25 C B+ C- A- C C
No notes originally
6th best shooter on the file and gets good steals according to Spence. His inside scoring is mediocre and we have no clue about his handle. I'm going to guess he'll be solid.
25. Mark Workman PF 6'9'' 215 22 B- C- D+ C+ C+ B
Elite post defender and strength. Rebounds are ok. Not much else.
Elite post defense and strength is nice but he doesn't give you much else. If his rebounding develops, he could be a useful backup.
26. Ben Gibson C 6'8'' 200 22 C+ D+ D+ B B- C
No notes originally
Spence said his blocks, post defense and handles are all solid.
27. Ralph Polson PF 6'7'' 200 23 C+ C D+ B- C+ B
Some stocks and boards. That's it.
The notes say it.
28. Chuck Grigsby SG 6'5'' 190 24 B B+ D C D C
No notes originally
Grigsby is the best shooter on the file and Spence said he isn't much of a leaper which must mean that B inside is quite legit. if his handle is any good, he's sort of Joe Rice-lite. I'd have him higher if his rebounding was more respectable.
29. Bob Peterson PF 6'5'' 210 20 C B- C- C+ C+ B
Good jumpshot and handles. Decent rebounder.
We need way more questions about these guys.
30. Roy Bellliveau SF 6'5'' 200 23 C C+ C B- C B
Solid 3 point shot and steals. Handles are mid.
Here's the 1st pick of the 2nd round.
31. Jim Kennedy PG 6'1'' 175 19 C B- C+ C D+ B
Solid shooter and ball handler. Not much else.
And the 2nd pick of the 2nd round too
