So Kok sat down with 4 GMs to get the inside scoop as we head into Season 34? who knows
1. If Break gets the Rockets, what’s the over under on him being CY’d within 6 season, even with all the 1sts he has?
RexLuthor - It has to be over six seasons right? I think that over/under is kind of low. Houston is in a great spot. I always liked Braun and Savage. Then Share doesn’t look too bad. On top of that they have a shit ton of first round picks at their disposal. Think he makes it by year three. I got faith in Break. Question is, will he have faith in himself to survive.
Stevie B - I’d say over. Would be incredibly hard to fuck up that situation, but we have seen Break fuck situations up before. However, I think it would be different this time. His last few deals were strong, and unfortunately he was buried when those deals occurred. I believe he’ll be more conscious of when he trades his own picks for talent this next go around. Whenever that is.
Galo - I’ll take the over. The West is tough so he would have to translate the majority of those picks into talent fairly quickly. With that said, if he can draft the right pieces and surround them with talent. Break’s problem is that he’s impulsive to make trades and doesn’t have quality bigs when he goes into CY. He just has to learn from mistakes.
nybombers3 - I think he'll do ok. Won't be CY'd in 6 seasons for sure. The Rockets are set up nicely for break to be able to take it easy and see what he could do with so many assets. I think it's a good fit for him. Let me chill for a season or two and make his moves. The Rockets are set up very nicely.
2. How do you feel about your team?
RexLuthor - Last time I was very confident about my team we shit the bed and missed the playoffs. But I think we have a decent chance to make the playoffs back. The King is back!!! Think he retires here but he has enough is the tank to help us this season. Loty has exceeded his play here and looking forward to his TC. Elijah had a down shooting season and should be better this season. So we’re ready to rock. 💪🏾💪🏾
Stevie B - Feel good about my squad, but would like to upgrade my PG even though Darden is solid and should be feasible enough. The Peat deal certainly quantifies us as pushing our chips in. We should be one hell of a rebounding unit. Peat is a massive addition for us and an upgrade over D Wash. Excited to see how this team looks.
Galo - Not the best TC but Pollard shows some promise. Pushing for a competitive season and finish camping our young guys. Then either rebuild or retool next season.
nybombers3 - I feel ok. I think. Slanters is going to be an interesting player for me. Pet project for the season. He does have a solid amount of weaknesses but I think coming off the bench is an ideal place for him. Obviously, for a dude on a max it's a tough sell but I think I have the salary flexibility to make it work right now. Both Foust and hopefully Conley are solid FT's shooters so Slanders FT shooting won't be too bad. TO's should be down because of PT. He's still a good rebounder and shot blocker. That won't go away. We'll see.
3. Whats your take on the Spurs going small ball, can it work?
RexLuthor - What is the Spurs starting lineup again? We have Wagner Jr, Jalen Green, Edwards…. I don’t even know who’s going to play the rest of those positions. Spurs has to do more work but I have to see what he does the rest of this offseason. I like Wags & Edwards. Jalen Green can still score but we have to see if they can stop other teams from scoring.
Stevie B - Nah. You need bigs regardless. Those 3 guys with shitty bigs should net you 45 wins regardless, but good luck making a run in the playoffs without any bigs whatsoever. And what if an injury occurs to one or two of them for any substantial period of time? Good luck surviving that. Also, all 3 dudes will make around $71M next season alone. If Royal can get solid bigs that rebound and block shots, then it could be a fun season, but it’ll be over after that.
Galo - I don’t think I’ve ever seen it work. You need rebounding to win in FBB along with blocks so I don’t think 2 elite scorers in Wagner and Edwards can offset that.
nybombers3 - Don't love it but FBB is crazy enough to allow it to work. Last season I started with Stump at C and we went off to teams that first sim. Not sure what royal plans on doing with the rest of his team, especially up front, but hopefully he can get some rebounders/defenders on the cheap.
4. What does it say that we no longer have anyone on the wait list?
RexLuthor - That we’re the only ones left. “Don’t look up”
Stevie B - Wouldn’t be worried yet. Ashes will eventually be back. Sucks he can’t slide into the Rockets situation, but obv he isn’t ready yet. I think others eventually will come back as well. Comes and goes. As long as Spence wants to keep it going, that’s honestly all that matters.
Stevie B note: Broph dog! Typed that shit before he even came back in. Like I said…this league will always be fine as long as Spence wants to keep it going.
Galo - It says we’re not flush with talent waiting in the wings. I would say say we should start scouting – the best way to bring new GMs is to recruit. With that said, I don’t know who’s left to bring in.
nybombers3 - I mean, FBB is an old ass game. Not sure how many are still interested in it. Plus, it can be pretty time consuming. It is what it is.
5. What was the dumbest pick in the draft?
RexLuthor - I wouldn’t say any pick was dumb. I did have a pick I didn’t like. That Chuck Darling pick was ehh. I was not a fan of that selection at all. I might be wrong but the pick right after in Eddie Miller was a better selection. Celtics probably needed a big but sometimes best player available is the better route.
Stevie B - Didn’t like Royals selection of Ken McBride at all. I know you caught some flak for your pick, but Royals pick is easily the worst of the top 10 looking at it right this moment before TC.
Galo - I didn’t like the Darling pick from Boston (sorry Brian) with Eddie Miller sitting there. I thought you would take him given your love for Van Halen tbh.
nybombers3 - Hm. Didn't love the Darling pick. Thought it was kind of early. Also, idk. Not the biggest McBride fan overall. I think his elite level passing won't help at all. Dumbest is tough though. I don't think any picks were so bad that it was dumb. Just a bit high.
6. How good are the Suns now? Could this be Andrew’s year to get a ring?
RexLuthor - Drew really made it out the mud and it was pretty quick turnaround as well. A lineup of Wat, Marks, Lloyd, Mikan, Wiseman on paper looks great. He also has his 4th overall rookie Zeke coming off the bench. I’m interested to see how they will perform but I do believe they will be contenders this year.
Stevie B - They’re very solid, but don’t think they’re favorites or anything like that just yet. Think they need a better SF and more viable depth. They have a nice situation…it’s good to see him be active and make good deals for once!
Galo - They’re very solid. Wiseman/Mikan along with Zeke is a super tough frontcourt.t He’s also got Lloyd and Wat. The only issue is he doesn’t have a lot fo fillers to make more big trades to get a good wing or two but they should hit 45 wins or so.
nybombers3 - I don't think they'll get a ring but the Suns will be good. Possibly a home field team in the West. For sure playoffs though. I am interested to see what they do with Wiseman next season. He's still good but old and could retire very soon. Will they try to extend their window or just let it role.
7. Will you be sad when I finally let Kok die and no longer have any Got Kok jokes?
RexLuthor - No more Koks for you. So no I will not be sad that you won’t have none anymore.
Stevie B - Nope.
Galo - Let the kok die out man! It’s time.
nybombers3 - Indeed but thankfully we have Dick Throat Groat going forward. IMO, Spencer should make this his permanent name. Also like 1/3rd of the league is named Dick. Oh and we have a Sperm now. Interesting times going forward.
8. All the trades Spence did, which was the best, and do you think anyone overpaid?
RexLuthor - The best? There were a lot of trades and Spence did a great job getting this team ready for the next GM. His better trade was probably the Braun Trade. I said earlier I still think he has a lot of potential. & the overpay came from San Antonio which was the Jalen Green trade He gave up Slater & Savage for 32 year old Green who is on a terrible contract. Hopefully it works out
Stevie B - The Jalen Green one certainly was the best one once you saw Spence flip Slater for 2 futures from Lumley right after that. What a mind boggling move by Lums.
Galo - I’m not sure how he got two Philly firsts plus Brock Call for an expiring Slater Martin. I think Lums might regret that down the road especially if he can’t resign Martin cheap.
nybombers3 - Spencer did so many trades idk. The Green trade was great for sure. Essentially got Martin from that deal then flipped him for 2 more picks. Plus the youth he got from the initial deal. I didn't really get either deal for either team (Spurs or 76ers) but whatever. Spurs are going 7 secs or less so I guess that's it for them.
9. Final thoughts, anything you would change in the league?
RexLuthor - I'm not picky so as of right now I’m cool with the pace and everything involving the league. Maybe one think I would change is keeping the 10 day sim before and after the ASG. 5 day sim doesn’t feed the soul good enough.
Stevie B - As long as 5 day sims are over, then I’m cool.
Galo - Things are going pretty good now. I would say if we could get some more talent on the WL that might help down the road.
nybombers3 - Just bring break back.
Thank y'all for reading and may everyone have a wonderful night.
