chipper and Orlando Magic Johnson like this

Who’s taking the 8th seed in the East?
Orlando Magic Johnson - Mmmmmm...Good question. There are 3-4 teams right now that potentially could take it. Sixers are in the 8th seed right now but I have a feeling the Pacers will make it. I love their rebounding. They're stacked and have a bright future. I think they will overtake any other teams including the Sixers and snag that 8th seed.
DeeperThanSims - Strangely enough, the 76ers could very well hold down that 8th spot if they don't quickly find homes for Bronny James and Gabe Jackson. I'm confused what's taking Lums so long on that front. If he does move them, then I expect Indiana to secure 8th. They can't defend but their offense seems to be taking off since acquiring Mack.
2 years left - Looks like the Pacers will take it by default. Philly is trying to tank and so are the Celtics, everybody else is too far behind or also tanking. Would be a big surprise to see them not take it considering they are the only ones really trying for it right now.
chipper - The way I've been playing lately, I'm going to accidentally fall into that seed, lol. No, but seriously, one of the Sixers or Pacers, most likely.
If both Indy and Cle are in CY next yr, who’s in a better spot?
Orlando Magic Johnson - I think as of right now they're pretty equal but again I love the Pacers rebounding. I think they're in a better position as of right now in terms of talent on the squad. Pacers have young bigs, Big Mack, they have a lot of good talent. Cavs are in an interesting spot right now. They have good pieces and should have a top pick this year. That pick should lead to acquiring more talent. So, I am sure they would be fine next year entering their CY, but I think right now, I like the pacers chances better.
DeeperThanSims - Indy is in a better spot. I think they should make the playoffs this year. If not, Clyde is an elite young big that I imagine could fetch an elite player to secure their CY. Cavs will probably have to work some magic with their incoming lottery pick unless Louis Leonard is the savior.
2 years left - I hate the Pacers roster. Do think they will reset this year, but if not they seem to be pretty fucked if they can't make it when only 8 teams are trying to win. Don't expect much love for my roster but I do think it is looking much better now than it was a week ago. Cyril is really good, Avery has been playing very well at SF, like what Leonard can bring to an outside offense and think I can overcome his turnovers at SG. Need to add some depth, mostly another big and a better backup guard/wing, but feel like we have a decent core building after looking hopeless not too long ago.
chipper - Indy has the younger assets they can use to make moves. I think they'll both make it, however. I am a huge fan of Indy's starting 5.
Who’s taking the 8th seed in the West?
Orlando Magic Johnson - I mean, as of right now, I think the Blazers will grab the 8th seed. But I can see us climbing higher if all goes well. My front court depth is suspect but we're on a tear right now. Also, I guess we could see a team fall off. The Nuggets are struggling in their last 10 games and I honestly don't see another team right now rising up and making the playoffs. But we shall see. Could be either the Blazers or Nuggets, maybe the Spurs.
DeeperThanSims - Going with the Blazers since they are actively looking to improve their team. The Spurs have a chance too. That trio of Edwards Wagner and Green is stupid good… they are running up wins on a team with 0 big men. I can't believe Edwards is going to retire without a ring.
2 years left - I'm going to go with the Nuggets. Can't see a team with Cousy missing the playoffs, right? Blazers look hot so I can see them passing them and going to the 7 seed. Not sure Spurs are a real threat to sneak in.
chipper - 3. 8th Seed in the West probably goes to the Clippers with how bad CC is tanking his DC. No idea why he's doing that, because talent-wise they should make it easily, but maybe he just really loves this draft and wants to tank into the lottery portion of it?
If both Portland and LA are in CY next yr, who’s in a better spot?
Orlando Magic Johnson - Nanz will have tons of cap space this upcoming offseason. He will be able to give out two maxes if he chooses. He will have another top pick and be in a good spot with cap space, young guys and picks. I have a pretty good squad right now with limited flexibility. If I don't make it this year, I think we should have a good shot to make it next year as well. I will have added a lotto pick if we don't make it this year and have options to move Francis and break up that contract if need be. I think I have a better shot of making the playoffs next year with the talent I have now but Nanz is still in a very good position. He should be in fine shape next year.
DeeperThanSims - Hard to say. Earlier in the season I thought Portland should tank the year but now I think DB is making the right move to reset now. He has very little flexibility with that Kuminga deal saddling him and it gets even more expensive next year. The Lakers will have a solid lottery pick, Monk and cap space to work with, so I'm kinda leaning towards them to be honest. Hopefully the Blazers reset this year.
2 years left - Portland is in a much better spot now, next year, five years from now, whenever. Lakers are my tank for two years and have no good youth brother. They need a star pretty bad, but do have some solid role players. Blazers obviously got Ricky for cheap, Ramsey looks good, Kuminga overpaid but still good.
chipper - I really do think Dan will be fine with the roster he has since he has loads of talent. Just has to find a way to make it all work. And I think Nanz will eventually make it- but he definitely needs some upgrades up-and-down the roster.
Grade break’s job thus far? What does he need to do going forward?
Orlando Magic Johnson - I'd give him a B. He isn't doing a terrible job right now but he has too much talent/salary on the roster. They're winning too many games and giving him a shitty lotto pick. I kinda think he should just try to see if he can get 42 wins or the playoffs at this point. He needs to get rid of these contracts for expirings and add any youth/picks he can get from any deals. Complete tear down and build it back up. Don't trade your firsts. Keep building through the draft and FA.
DeeperThanSims - I thought Break was improving but I don't know. The Fracci deal wasn't bad but he probably should have got Andrew to give up a future 1st. The returns for Wat and Francis deals were just bad but whatever. I'm tired of complaining about lopsided deals. It's good Break is keeping his picks through these moves. I guess that's what he needs to do going forward.
2 years left - C. He hasn't made any franchise killing moves, but do think he blew the Ricky trade obviously. I don't think he was getting franchise changing talent for him though so plenty of time to recover from it and pretend like it never happened. He is likely going to enter CY yet again since I'm not sure he can avoid a 3-year tank. Hate to say it but my money is on him failing yet again, but so far he is doing mediocre which is an improvement I guess.
chipper - B- - I do love some of the moves he's made, but the Francis trade, sadly, looks shortsighted. I would have at least put a block for just Francis and no one else out there, and maybe better offers would have come in. I do like that he still has all his picks though- and that is definitely an accomplishment for Break.
Are we heading towards a Toronto/Utah finals?
Orlando Magic Johnson - I can see that. I can definitely see that. Toronto looks very good and Utah seems like the clear best in the West right now. But I picked the Knicks in my predictions and I am sticking with them. Knicks-Jazz in the finals...Knicks win in 7. Sorry habes!
DeeperThanSims - I think so. The Mel/Barksdale swap was the move locked in Toronto's spot in my opinion. Mel is obviously very good and it was a fair trade, but Barksdale is the perfect player to me - an elite scoring big that shoots a lot of 3s, rebounds AND blocks? Sheesh. The Knicks are extremely good and could make it out too, but I think Barksdale will be a huge issue for them. Utah been running it up in the West and I think they should make it out. I could see the Kings giving them trouble though. And you can never count out Chris Hudson.
2 years left - Nah. One will get upset before the finals. If I had to guess I'd go with Utah, they seem to choke a lot. Haha! Each conference has a handful of teams that can make a deep run so not going to declare the season over yet for either one.
chipper - Knicks might have something to say about Toronto in the Finals. Think it's clearly between the two of them for East supremacy. And I do love Utah in the West, but Phoenix for sure has the talent to get by Utah.
Which team has been the most disappointing thus far?
Orlando Magic Johnson - MMMMMmmm... I'm not sure if they're really disappointing but maybe not living up to expectations. The Magic were stacked with talent and seem to have fallen off a bit. They have some of the best bigs in the league but only 2 games above .500. Not really sure what's going on over there but maybe they could use a little change up, switch things up a bit and see what happens.
DeeperThanSims - I guess it's between the Wizards and Mavs. Wizards made zero moves since making the finals. That's wild. The Mavs should have been a top West team for a long time. I guess Beastly quit. He didn't post a DC and he doesn't answer PMs.
2 years left - My own. I actually thought my band of misfits could have fought for a 8 seed. Pretty embarrassing tbh. Needed the reality check to stop fucking around. Pistons also pretty disappointing. Have Wat now and still tanking? Ugly stuff.
chipper - My team is always most disappointing whenever a BBS season rolls around.
Build your ideal starting line up
Orlando Magic Johnson - Red Rocha - Dolph Schayes - Jack Coleman - Bennett - Devereux St. Cloud
heeeehawww
DeeperThanSims - I want 5 outside shooters. Replace Amos with Barksdale in my line up of Hayes/Hitch/Braun/Parks and I'd be happy. If I can't have that, then I just want 5 starters that are capable of scoring. Starting these bigs that average 5 points on trash efficiency sucks. It's hard to make up for the lack of scoring. That championship Mavs team was perfect bballsim2020.com/rosters31/roster16.htm Hayes and Leaf weren't great scorers but they at least gave you double figures along with their rebounding and defense.
2 years left -
C: George Brown
PF: Red Rocha
SF: Koa Peat
SG: Elijah Fisher
PG: Bob Cousy
4 20+ ppg scorers, stocks, boards, turnovers low enough. Didn't really look that deep into it but hard to see a team beating this.
chipper - Off the top of my head- DSC/Ricky Francis/Coleman/Red Rocha/Mikan
Look back at the offseason. Any moves you regret making/not making?
Orlando Magic Johnson - obviously probably shouldn't have dealt for Kuminga and Iverson. But then again, those 2 picks I received in that deal lead me to adding Maxwell and Francis. I'm liking my squad right now. I just wish Kuminga had a more friendly contract lol. Oh well. It's fun to deal and try to make it this year. Rather not be in my CY next year so that's why I am going for it.
DeeperThanSims - Nope. I did the best I could with the trades that were available to me. I like acquiring dominant players out of rebuilds but those guys just weren't available. My pieces didn't have a lot of value in PM discussions, then I trade them and suddenly my guys are very valuable… that's usually how it goes though. I'm sitting at 28-12 with a stifling defensive team and the contracts to improve further. I'm good with where I am.
2 years left - Oh boy. Not dealing Eddie Miller before TC was a terrible mistake but what can ya do. Sometimes FBB just booms you. I should have traded Lebron Johnson a long time ago but kept trying to make the experiment work. He just doesn't fit my system. I regret not going harder for a Cyril S&T but corrected that. Guess the one move I didn't make that I may end up regretting is not dealing for Ricky Francis. Time will tell!
chipper - The Mel Payton trade. End of speech.
Out of the 5 new FA's, who interested you the most and why?
Orlando Magic Johnson I wanted Ed Sadowski badly...I think he is going to come in with 2-3 blocks per game and some nice boards. Could have used that. Ahhhh well! Wasn't meant to be!
DeeperThanSims - Honestly none of them would play much for me but I did claim Max Zaslofsky as he was the only shooter of the bunch. I just wanted to give him a run at back up 1-2 and see if he could provide Zippy like scoring but without the turnovers.
2 years left - None of them interested me so I didn't bid on any. My team is 13-26 and they are all min guys without birds (I think?). All old. Pointless for me. I know one got dealt for a lotto protected marty first but that's basically a nonexistent pick until he's CYed and the next GM will probably tank 2-3 years. Who cares about a teens pick in 5 years? Neat idea I guess just not of interest to me.
chipper - Zaslofsky, to me, looked the best, and so far he's played the best scoring-wise. I did flip Sadowski for a first though, so that worked!
