Hello friends and welcome to my Pre-lotto mock draft! I haven't done too much digging but who gives a fuck!
1. Houston Rockets - Bob Pettit PF 6'9'' 205 22 B+ C+ C B B A
Spencer's notes: Elite inside and midrange. Good handles and post defense. Very good rebounder. Some stocks.
For the majority of time bigs have been a rarity in BBS...now more than ever. Dominate bigs that can do it all. Sturdy, solid fellas, that you sit in the 4/5 and you know what you're getting every night. Domination. Bob Pettit is that guy. Anyone who lands the number 1 pick lands a STUD. With some camping to his steals and shot blocking, I have no doubt Bob will be one of the best bigs BBS has seen.
2. Seattle Super Sonics - Richie Guerin SG 6'4'' 195 22 B B B B C+ A
Spencer's notes: Elite upside. Very good scorer from all over. Solid handles. Some stocks. Good rebounder for a wing.
Seattle needs a compliment to big man Walter Dukes. Who better than young Richie over here. Richie is going to be a stud scorer. He can get stocks and rebound well for a guard too. I'm not sure you can ask for more with the 2nd pick. ELITE UPSIDE. Yes. YES. YES. Richie is making a case for the number 1 pick. In most years, Richie would definitely go number 1. Sonics pair Guerin with Dukes and now they're forming a really good core. One more season of tanking and they're on a path to a really nice squad.
3. Minnesota Timberwolves - Red Kerr C 6'9'' 230 22 C+ C D+ B B+ A
Spencer's notes: Solid. Can score inside and from mid. Solid handles. Some stocks. Good rebounder. Elite strength.
I think you can go a lot of ways from here on out but I like this pick for the TWolves. Red Kerr sounds like another very good big in this class. Can score. Good handles. Stocks, rebounding and has elite strength. He is ready to go to coming out of the gate. I'm not sure of everyone's direction and mindset but I like Red with the third pick.
4. Milwaukee Bucks - Slick Leonard PG 6'3'' 185 23 C C+ B B C A
Spencer's notes: Elite handles, quickness and steals. Very good rebounder for a PG. Okay inside and midrange scorer.
I think Andy will take BPA. Though I'm sure he would love a big man or a big time scorer, Slick seems like the BPA. He is ELITE in all the CATS you want for your point guard. He is a very good rebounder. If you can work on his shooting, you will have the perfect point guard to build around. Plus you gotta love his name. Nice pick here.
5. Utah Jazz (From Los Angeles Lakers) - Dick Garmaker SG 6'3'' 200 22 B- B- B- C+ C- A
Spencer's notes: Very good inside and midrange scorer. Solid handles. Some steals.
Habes traded some pieces for the 5th pick in this years draft. Youth is on the way for the JAZZ. Dick Garmaker seems to be a good selection here. No one is really standing out in my opinion. Very good inside and midrange scorer. His handles are good and will get some steals. Seems like you camp his 3pt shot, rebounding and steals and you will have a very good shooting guard. HAROLD.
6. Milwaukee Bucks (From New Jersey Nets) - Werner Killen C 6'8'' 210 19 C+ D+ C- C C+ A
Spencer's notes: Good upside. Stocks and boards should be solid. Everything else is pretty mid.
I was thinking about taking Werner with the 4th pick but yeah having him here is amazing for Andy imo. Teaming up Werner and Slick seems like a no brainer. Werner supposedly has good upside. Stocks and boards. With so few bigs in this league, I think adding one here with good upside for a rebuilding team makes all the sense in the world. Camp his ass. See how his TC's and sims go and work on this project. We don't see too many 19 year old bigs coming into the league these days.
7. Boston Celtics - Frank Selvy SG 6'3'' 180 22 C B+ C+ C+ C- A
Spencer's notes: Good shooter. Good handles. Some steals. Inside scoring is mediocre.
While a dime a dozen in the league, you know what you're getting with a guy like Frank. Can score 20 ppg, low turnovers and some steals. Not bad for the 7th pick. Most would take this and run. He will be a good prospect you can camp. Help out his rebounding and steals and go from there.
8. Boston Celtics (From Cleveland Cavaliers) - Bob Mattick C 6'11'' 225 21 C+ C D+ C+ C+ A
Spencer's notes: Good upside. Some stocks. Jump shot and rebounding are ok.
BACK-TO-BACK! BELLY-TO-BELLY! Another pick for the Celtics who made out like bandits in 3-way deal with the Hornets and Cavs. Bobby boy is another project big but why not?? He has good upside and stocks. Camp his rebounding, jump shot, handles and go from there. See what happens! These guys with good upside should all be taken by rebuilding teams. They have time for some projects.
9. Washington Wizards - Dick Rosenthal SF 6'5'' 205 24 B+ C D+ B B- B
Spencer's notes: Very good inside scorer. Good rebounder. Solid post defender. Some steals. Not very quick. Handling is just okay.
Dick seems like a guy Jah would take. Stay on his team for 15 seasons and no one ever hears from this guy again. Oh shit! That guy is in the league? Who knew! Anyway...Dick can score inside, rebound, defend and get some steals. Camp his handles and maybe his blocking? Could become a pretty good backup or potentially a starter. Not bad for the 9th pick in the draft.
10. Philadelphia 76ers - Ron Rivers PF 6'7'' 195 20 C+ C D- C+ C+ A
Spencer's notes: Raw upside player. Some stocks. Good strength. Poor handles.
Lumley, lumley, lumley.. When are you going to find whatever the hell it is you're looking for. I can see Lums starting off the rebuild with a project big like this. Has some stocks, very raw with good strength. Work on his handles and maybe you have something down the line. Why not lums!
11. Golden State Warriors - Gene Shue PG 6'2'' 170 23 C+ B- B- C+ C A
Spencer's notes: Good scorer. Solid inside and good midrange. Handles are solid. Some steals. Good rebounder for a PG.
I'm not sure if JR is really in this league anymore but Gene seems like a steal with the 11th pick. All around good player. Probably should have gone higher but i just saw him now and don't want to change anything. If he falls to the 11th pick you snag him.. YES YOU DO! Perfect compliment to any squad.
12. Portland Trail Blazers - Red Morrison C 6'8'' 220 22 B- D+ C- B B B
Spencer's notes: Good post defender. Solid rebounder. Strong.
Portland needs the most win-now ready player available. Plus they need a big man or TWO. Red Morrison seems like an ideal fit. Someone who can backup the 4/5 and compliment the team's scoring. They need help up front and another Red in this draft should do the trick. Hopefully he is more developed under the hood and can bring some stocks!
13. New York Knicks (From Detroit Pistons) - Don McLane PF 6'4'' 220 22 B C- C B C+ B
Spencer's notes: Elite inside scorer. Some stocks. Okay rebounder. Handles are just mediocre.
Don seems like a very good big that will fit well on a Skillz team. He is an elite inside scorer with stocks. Rebounding and handles need some work but nothing Skillz can't do. If anything he will be a good trade piece for him in the first half of the season! Don is more intriguing the more you look at him!
Thanks everyone! Enjoy!
