Article: BBS Franchise Rankings – First 36 Years
Every few years, we are going to tally up the results and provide and update and “franchise power rankings” – a quantitative measure of team success that is not victim to the whims and agendas of a GM Ranking article would be. We have not done this in 5-seasons, so let us try.
But how do we quantify success? Is it regular season wins? Titles? Playoff success? Tough to tell these days. We are going to run with this loose formula:
1 Point for a Regular Season Win
2 Points for a Playoff Win
5 Points for a Playoff Appearance
20 Points for a Finals Appearance
75 Points for a Title [Extra boost for this version, to try to help placate the RINGZ crowd]
We post this every 5 years. I forgot last year, so I guess this was long overdue! I'm leaving for a few days so this is pending another Heat title or a first championship for Phoenix. If Miami wins, it will not change the Heat's new #4 ranking. If the Suns win, Phoenix climbs from #24 to.....#23.
Biggest movers since last time: ARROW UP for Miami, Utah, Phoenix and the Clippers. ARROW DOWN for Seattle, Chicago, Milwaukee, the Lakers and Portland.
We are now THIRTY-SIX into this thing. Absolutely crazy. Time flies. Where do we stand?
